Breaking: Adam Andrzejewski Surges to Within 2 Points in Latest Polling
Gateway Pundit ^ | 01/31/10 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 01/31/2010 3:02:39 PM PST by American Dream 246

Illinois Gubernatorial Candidate Adam Andrzejewski rallied supporters in O’Fallon, Illinois this afternoon. It was a standing room only crowd.

While campaigning in O’Fallon the Andrzejewski team announced that Adam had just received the endorsement of the largest Chicago Polish paper today. And…. It was announced that Adam had surged to within two points in an internal poll conducted by a conservative organization in Washington DC. Andrzejewski was 8 points down earlier in the week in the Illinois race.

It may have been the endorsement by Lech Walesa that helped Andrzejewski surge in the latest polling. And this is despite the fact that the mainstream Chicago news mostly ignored Walesa’s historic endorsement.

Good for Adam. If he wins, I guarantee you will see Obama go ‘nuclear’ on all his pet projects, simply because he knows he’ll lose in 2012.

I’m not surprised. Hughes has been surging also over the last week. He had doubled his numbers in less than a week since the PPP poll. I only hope conservatives wake up on primary day. Tea Parties have been phone banking for our conservatives. It is time to shock the establishment.

I hope all conservatives in Illinois unite behind one candidate. It seems as if Adam has the best shot of all the real conservatives to win the GOP primary.

Proft is a good guy but hasn’t even made a small dent in the polls.

I’m voting for Adam. I hope all fellow IL Freepers will unite and do the same. It would be a huge victory for the conservative cause.

The last Republican with an easy name was George Ryan. He is now deservedly in jail, reneged completely on his stated pro-life position (he beat the rare pro-life Democrat, Glenn Poshard), stoked up public works projects and doubled auto registration fees to partly pay for it, and put a moratorium on the death penalty. I'd rather have a good guy whose name I can't pronounce.

I think you’re misread Adam A’s hair situation:
look closer, there’s not enough of it to fuss over and primp, like your unspoken comparison with Long John Edwards.
Adam’s hair is quite thin, and there’s not much to muss up.
He’s probably pissed that he only has enough to make it over
his forehead, even if it falls out as bangs.

As a Professional Vocal Coach I am inclined to concur.

Except that Howard's Vocal PLACEMENT in the frontal lobe is situated far too close to the sinus area for my personal taste. It gives his glissando and tessuratura a profoundly nasal and shreiking effect that could cause cerebral infarct in a water buffalo.

Billyboy told me his thoughts and analysis of the LT Guv race.

I’ll sum up my thoughts.

There are 6 candidates

State Sen Matt Murphy is a good conservative but he’s McKenna’s “running mate” and was an early Kirk backer. That’s reason enough to vote for him in the primary as far as I’m concerned.

Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole is RINO scum. Former George Ryan Deputy COS. Won’t rule out supporting tax hikes (not that the LT Guv has power over this). My last choice.

Dennis Cook is an also ran and friendly towards RINOs. No reason to consider him.

Don Tracy seems conservative but he was a demorat just a few years ago. I don’t trust him. No need to take a chance on him.

Conservatives have 2 clear choices in my opinion:

Jason Plummer is a young conservative (27, a year older than me) who is spending a lot of money on the race. He talks a lot about stuff the office has nothing to do with. I’m sure he knows the office actually has no power but he’s choosing to talk about these prominent issues anyway.

Randy White is a solid conservative and is very qualified. He is most detailed about his qualifications for fulfilling the scant duties of the office. He’s a “religious right” kind of guy. Personally that turns me off and while voters in the GE will likely not focus much on the LT Guv running mates I don’t think it would help. White probably won’t win the nomination. It’s hard to argue he’s not the most qualified though.

Billyboy thinks Plummer will take this race easily.

I’m think that Murphy can win or much much worse RINO Brad Cole (most prominent downstater, Sun Times backed, several endorsements, 1 of them Joe Birkett) can win. It’s between those 2 and Plummer in my estimation.

I’ll be voting for Plummer.

http://www.jasonplummer.com/

http://www.randy4ltgov.com/

Those are the websites for the 2 good candidates.

I like Brady better, he’s more qualified. (and I like Proft better still but it appears he’s in last place)

I’ll vote for Brady unless it’s clear to me that Andrzejewski has a better chance to top the crappy candidates. In the last published polls Brady was ahead of him in one and they were tied in the other.

Possibly the Lech Walesa endorsement has helped Andrzejewski. I wouldn’t have figured anyone would care about that.

40% of the Republican primary vote comes from outside of Chicago and the collar counties. Polls seem to have a habit of oversampling Chicago.

I have to agree with KevinDavis and Impy... I'm voting for Brady on Tuesday. No he's not perfect but I'd rather have someone who knows what their doing than someone who's "right on the issues" because they're new to politics and promise you whatever you want to hear.

I was a kid during the whole Ross Perot phenomena, I didn't understand the whole "we need an unknown wealthy businessman to run our government" mentality and I don't understand it now. How'd that work out for other states? Jon Corzine was "enormously successful in the private sector" too. Still, I was a Forbes supporter in H.S. (how's that for supporting a "wealthy outsider"?), but in hindsight now that I know how elections work I realize he'd never get elected dog catcher. But Forbes geeky persona and humble interviews were alot more enduring than Adam Andrejewski. I've meet the guy twice in person -- he was very cocky and pushy, and he kept insisting on getting my contact info. and having me sign up for his campaign ASAP because otherwise I'd miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to "make history". I went away with a total "used car salesman" vibe from the guy. I come from a through middle class background -- my mom's a teacher, my dad is a retired cop. I'm a graphic designer and film critic. The no. #1 profession of politicians before they entered government is lawyer, and no. #2 is wealthy businessmen. Do we need more millionaire CEOs in government? I don't think so.

Even though I'm from the Chicago area I CAN understand the desire to give the other 80% of the state some representation in Illinois government. All the RAT candidates are from Chicago itself and all the GOP candidates are western suburbanites from the DuPage county area (home of GOP, Inc. in this state). That includes Adam, even though he grew up in Kankakee (it might be an hour's drive from Chicago, it's not considered "downstate" by people in central and southern Illinois -- just ask them). The thing about political unknowns with no track record is they're going to be the "best" on the issues because they can promise you ANYTHING and you can't dispute it. One of the things that bothers me about Adam is he seems to have make up facts about his bio that simply don't gel with historic facts.

A big talking point of his campaign is how he grew up in a great patriotic conservative family and his dad had the "courage" to "run as the conservative opposition to liberal Republican George Ryan when no else would". Now, let's research this claim and what actually happened. Adam's dad indeed ran for state rep. in 1978 -- as a Democrat. He didn't run "against" George Ryan, because at that time we still had our unusual "preferential voting system" that gave Illinois three state reps. per district, so Adam's dad was a Democrat in a majority Republican area, running to take out any and all Republicans in Kankankee. Third, read up on history and you'll find out George Ryan was a BELOVED conservative icon in this state during that era. As speaker of the House, he had just received endless allocates and praise from the conservative base and Phyllis Scafley for killing the ERA amendment when most Republicans didn't have the guts to, and its death in Illinois derailed it nationwide. NOBODY would have dared called George Ryan a RINO back then and "challenged him from the right". It wasn't until George went to statewide office in the 80s that he he got assimilated by the Thompson crowd and drifting leftward, until he became a total DIABLO scum in the late 90s. Finally, even in the 70s, Kankakee was a very traditional conservative Republican area. There were some pre-Reagan "conservative Democrat" regions of the nation in the 70s, Kankakee wasn't one of them. It was a historically GOP stronghold in northern Illinois and the RAT minority there was mainly supported by big labor and other left-wing groups. Running as a RAT if you wanted to be the "more conservative" candidate simply made no sense.

Maybe Adam's family was working class and leaned towards Democrat policies until the Reagan revolution made them see the light, but that's not the way he tells the story. He uses it boost his "true conservative" credentials. And if he's not being honest about that, what else is he telling the truth about? There's no way to know. He seems to be on our side but we'll never know unless take a big gamble and elect him. And I personally know a conservative activist who signed up for Adam's campaign and was gung-ho to elect him until incidents like that caused him to resign from the campaign.

Maybe Adam will pull off a miracle on Tuesday but this post on FR is the only place where I've seen it reported that he's suddenly surged "with two points". It's not being posted on Illinois Review, which is choke full of Adam supporters. He may finish above Dan Proft on Tuesday though, which I find unfortunate as I think Proft is the superior conservative candidate of the two.

We'll see in two days I guess.

On a related note, I'm glad Illinois doesn't allow primary campaign losers to run again in the general election. Although I'd be 100% willing to support guys like Adam or Pat Hughes if they win the nomination, I cringe at the thought of them pulling a Joe Lieberman style "our campaign must continue" if they get their butts kicked by a RINO on Tuesday. Narrowly losing the primary, might entitle a candidate to a do-over in November, but not losing by 20+ points.
