N.C High Schools to Remove Pre-1877 U.S. History?

Yet another sign of how much our education system has been hijacked! I guess the libs found it too difficult to rewrite our history so now they'll just erase it.

Under the proposed change, the ninth-graders would take a course called global studies, focusing in part on issues such as the environment. The 10th grade still would study civics and economics, but 11th-graders would take U.S. history only from 1877 onward.

What the **** is "global studies"? Sounds like a course indoctrinating students in every leftist pet cause. The starting of history in 1877 is right out of 1984. Of course they want to start in 1877 since the is on the cusp of the Progressive Era and the start of Big Government repudiating the Founding Fathers.

Way too many white guys to study and learn about before the year 1877 - - so, the obvious solution is to make it racially fair. Eliminate studying the all-white portion of American History. Only study the portion of history after the Black Man has been liberated and doing things that contribute to the formulation of the country. Makes sense? Well, I am sure to liberals it makes all the sense in the world.

We are doing something similar in our district. We took the one year of 8th grade US history and made it 7th and 8th grade, moving world history to 6th grade.

They might just be splitting up the course work. Most teachers can’t get past WWII in any depth with the time and testing requirements we have.

Global studies is "world history". I had a year of that before I had American history. And that was 25^H^H 15 years ago.

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TEACH THEM ABOUT OUR REVOLUTIONARY WAR, DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND CONSTITUTION, OR THE CIVIL WAR. This is a deliberate effort to create ignorant dummies who know nothing about their liberty and why they have it. But they are going to each them about the robber barons. The people of North Carolina should be screaming bloody murder. The “educators” who thought this up and are planning it, that Rebecca Garland for instance, ought to be looking for another job. The North Carolina Board of Education is the responsible organization. Board members include the Lieutenant Governor, the State Treasurer and 11 other members appointed by the Governor. These elected officials should be held accountable.

Yeah, why should kids be forced to learn about the American Revolution or the Civil War? Too old.

1877 allows the teacher to tell them about the rise of big business and why that was a bad thing, and tell of the heroic struggles of union organizers. But 1954 would be better--start US history with the Brown decision and the Birmingham bus boycott. Then to the Little Rock desegregation story, the sit-ins, the civil rights marches, the horrors of Vietnam, Watergate, and the Reagan revolution, the unrealized dreams of the Clinton years, the horrors of the Cheney-Bush Regime, the wonderful new era of Hope and Change with Obama, etc.

After all, government schools have the duty to indoctrinate their students so they will become reliable supporters of the government party, and immune to anything they may hear from the hatemongers on Fox...

Why in the world should NC students be burdened with studying the Revolutionary War, or those European-American, slave owning radicals like Jefferson, Madison, Adams, et al, or the struggle for states rights and the War Between the States, when they can spend that time studying Global Warming and Diversity Issues?

Actually, when I had History classes in school, the teacher always got behind the schedule and we never learned the later stuff.

1877 is a “convenient” place to cleve US history because Reconstruction. Obviously if the class started in say 1865 then that class would have to somehow discuss the events that lead to Reconstriction.

It also very conveniently (for them) gets rid of the Constitution and Bill or Rights and all the other critical founding documents.
