GOP Begins "Romney 2012" Campaign (with a little help from glad-to-help Liberals; take a read)
Vanity, et al | 2-19-10 | TitansAFC

Posted on 02/19/2010 2:40:09 PM PST by TitansAFC

And so it begins:

CPAC embraces the new Mitt Romney

South Carolina mulls 2012: Romney? Palin? Huck?
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/South-Carolina-mulls-2012_-Romney_-Palin_-Huck_-84732787.html

Romney now biggest threat to Obama head to head
http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/18/ppp-poll-romney-now-biggest-threat-to-obama-head-to-head/

These are just a few examples from the last two days.

You'll also notice the (once again) packed straw poll at CPAC, and a sudden surge in Freepers attacking Sarah Palin at every turn.

It seems the push is already at full force. Mitt Romney is the guy to beat, like it or not (remember that McCain enjoyed -5% support at FR during the campaign), and the GOP is circling the wagons early this time.

Add to that several weekend columns out-of-nowhere attacking Sarah Palin again (George Will, Dorothy Rabinowitz, Kathleen Parker, et al).

let there be no doubt, the organized effort is afoot.

She didn’t have a year to work on her presentation! That’s outrageous my friend.....

Last year She was governor, then she step down and spent months writing her book, then she did the book tour in Nov and Dec.....Now in this year she said that she has time to get briefings...etc and so her interviews are getting better like the Chris Wallace one (who said that the talk of D.C. that week was that She was a serious contender)

Sarah Palin has made some political moves that were emotionaly driven rather than politically well thought out.

And HOW do you know that??? Every move she has made has been carefully calculated on political risk-cost-return basis.

You run you get more votes and you win it that simple.

What naivety...! The GOP beltway leadership is going to do everything it can to stack the deck in Romney's favor, most overtly by considering the selection of Salt Lake City, the center of Romney's power base, as the 2012 convention site. You mean to tell us that you can't see this happening???

Are you advocating close primaries for just Republican registered voters?

So you support open primaries? Well, doesn't THAT just speak volumes about you...!!!!

I don’t want her or Romney as my candidate in 2012.

Fine. Vote for Obama then.

I’m heating up to Haley Barbour.. I laugh at some of the people on here writing him off in one of the other threads about him potentially throwing his hat into the ring.

And I laugh at you...

Barbour tells NH GOP inclusion is key ["We're a big party"]

SOLD DOWN THE RIVER. How Haley Barbour sabotaged eminent domain reform

...and especially if you actually think that an old, fat, white GOP hack with a deep southern accent has any chance of defeating Obama and his inner city hordes.

And why didn’t she succeed? I saw the speech and the crowd reaction. Or is this a case of, ‘well the people *I* talked to’...

I saw Palin's tea party performance. I thought it was basically par for the course. Palin-mania is Fred-mania on steroids. It will be interesting to see how her fans and followers react if a)she doesn't run in 2012 or b) she runs and loses the primary. They have a lot of emotional investment in her. To me, it's dangerous and ill-advised.

What's the big hurry with her, anyway? She's in her 40s. I'd like to see her appointed Sec of Energy. That to me would be a good fit for her right now. Let her grow. Give her some time to develop. But then, her celbrity pixie dust may wear off in time.

I said the same thing about Kerry’s buddy mcCain and look where that got me! The only way this primary thing will ever work is to get the first 5 states’ ‘R’ primaries as closed not open primaries....then plan on having a ‘runoff’ primary if the state involved is stupid enough to have more than 2 primary candidates.

Maybe she will, maybe she won't. Personally, I hope she doesn't run in 2012. I don't think she's ready, and I think it would be funny as hell to watch her most ardent supporters blow a gasket.

If she does run, it would be pretty funny if she didn't win. Of course, I'd like to see a good conservative like DeMint win the nod.

If she does win, I hope I'm wrong and that she is ready. If she does run, hopefully the primaries will sort it all out.

Romney as the nominee will lose to Obama worse than McCain did...if he doesn't have Palin as a running mate. With Palin as running mate, I'd give it a 50-50 shot...Palin w/Romney as running mate would easily Beat Obama.

Romney teaming up with Palin???

Do you really believe that that is possible? Do you also expect Nicole Wallace to be her press person????

Romney will want someone like himself to be on the ticket, he'll want Meg Whitman, but he may have to select Tim Pawlenty.

In any event, I do not believe that Mitt Romney will come even close to receiving the nomination.

The media absolutely fears/detests this woman and they will make it their mission to completely destroy her if she gets into the race...just as they did to Reagan in 1980. It was the best thing that ever happened to Reagan and Republicans. For the next 20 years in order to know which lever to pull, you simply had to ask 'who is the Media endorsing' and pull the other lever.

Mitt Romneycare and the MSM worked to attack Gov. Palin
and her children -- and throw the election to Obama.

America will NEVER forget what Mitt RomneyCARE and the MSM did.

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 to 10 pts. in some polls, days prior to the election.
So rather than helping the GOP, poor loser “I am Myth” Romney and
TeamROMNEY decided …… to attack Gov. Palin (and her defenseless children) to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician… I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Kathleen Parker: "[I]t is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem." "Parker ... says something publicly that many of us have thought privately
but lacked the courage to say out loud - Palin should step down:"

"Kathleen Parker: After Interviews, Palin Should Bow Out"

Kathleen Parker: "Romney would bring more than squeaky clean qualifications
and youthful good looks to the ticket.
Romney would seem a logical choice."

"Parker: Romney raised bar on freedoms"
Kathleen Parker: "If Kennedy's speech was an important landmark in American political history,
Romney's was surpassing. With heartfelt humility and poetic eloquence,
he tracked the nation's struggle with and for freedom."

Staggering bigotry of Kathleen Parker - UPDATED"

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

Thank you for the dynamite posting; I couldn't believe my eyes that someone was seriously suggesting a Palin/Romney ticket, that's absurd.

Frankly, I do not understand why the Romney/Whitman folks were seemlessly added to McCain's people -- I believe that they intentionally sabotaged the ticket, so that they could run Mitt again in 2012.

Surely most Americans realize this.

Mitt Romney 2012..I’ll just stay home if that happens. Obama, Romney, what’s the difference, so what,

McCain 2008...I’ll just stay home if that happens. Obama, McCain, what’s the difference, so what,

The quad annual drum beat begins...Democrats have found out that they can't WIN elections, they have to impose a guranteed political LOSER on the Repubs (Dole, McCain, Romney, etc). Welcome to the 21st century. Until both the conservatives and America break the chain, the Dims will be in power in spite of media gaffes. If the media were smart, they would lay off Palin now, let her win the primaries, then sic their dogs on her after she wins the primaries...just as they did Dole and McCain. The venom comes from the fact that she's a woman (who's left the 'reservation').
