Boos as Ron Paul wins CPAC straw poll
Politico ^ | Feb 20, 2010 | JONATHAN MARTIN & JESSICA TAYLOR

Paul's victory renders a straw poll that was already lightly contested among the likely 2012 GOP hopefuls all but irrelevant as the 74-year-old Texan is unlikely to be a serious contender for his party's nomination.

CPAC organizers were plainly embarrassed by the results, which could reduce the perceived impact of a contest that was once thought to offer a window into which White House hopefuls were favored by movement conservatives.

A spokesman for the conference rushed over to reporters following the announcement to make sure they had heard the unmistakable boos when the screen first showed Paul had won the straw poll.

2,935 votes were cast in the straw poll, the most in the history of the 37-year conference, but a fraction of the approximately 10,000 people who attended CPAC

Forty-eight percent of those who participated in the contest indicated that they were students and the divergent reaction to the results reflected the outcome.

Boos as Ron Paul wins CPAC straw poll

Actually, those watching at the time would have noticed Boos, Guffaws, 'Riiiight', 'on what planet', and other long pregnant responses, requiring a long pregnant pause at the podium, until the surprise that there had been a scam poll (some call it a straw poll) wore off.

“Ron Paul doesn’t want to police the world.”

More accurately, he doesn’t want to defend American and fight the War on Terror.

No real conservative believes that Reagan was a failure.

“In 1988 Ron Paul was nominated by the Libertarian Party for president and ran against the Reagan agenda, at one point telling the Dallas Morning News, Reagan was a “dramatic failure” as President. Paul also said, “I want to totally disassociate myself from the Reagan Administration”, Reagan was “a failure, yes, in, in many ways”. Transcript of Paul’s remarks on Meet the Press. Also, see Youtube video of Paul on MTP.”

Romney seems to want to hunker down in NH, MI, skip IA & SC, then make Super Tuesday his coronation.

Iowa would be a must win for either T-Paw or possibly Thune. Michelle Bachmann praised T-Paw as a brave leader at C-PAC. Future endorsement of T-Paw by Bachmann.

No, that's a "strawman". Ah, if you only had a brain...

The brains are in the "Paulbot" camp, Mr. Wizard.

Paul’s a really bad conman, I’m surprised so many losers in their parents’ basements fall for his routine.

I actually agree with about 80 % of what Paul stands for

It’s the other 20 % that is so far out in left field I have to throw the baby out with bathwater

He does attract some fringe elements to say the least

I'm 58 today and have been working every day since I was 9.

My Uncle was this State's Republican party chairman for 16 years.

Both of us support Ron Paul's ideas, if not Ron Paul.

What's your excuse?

OK, so you're metaphorically living in your uncle's basement.

What's your excuse?

I prefer to implement my ideas rather than pout in the corner about how principled I am.

I don't support people who claim to be too principled to engage in real politics and then act hypocritically.

But most of all...I'm not comfortable in the company of anti-Semites.

My Uncle actually lives in my guest house.

If you want chains around yourself, your children and grandchildren, I don't blame you for not supporting Ron Paul's ideas.

Just don't chain up your fellow citizens who don't want to be chained.

Yeah...metaphorically is an awfully long word. Most people stop paying attention after the second syllable.

Ron Paul's "ideas" don't mean anything. He isn't who he says he is. He's a Bircher crank that dupes people by calling himself Libertarian.

He's the political version of Benny Hinn. He has, after all his years in Congress, done nothing to reduce the size and scope of the federal government. But if you just send him a few more dollars, well...he'll win another straw poll...or send another newsletter that he doesn't read...or something, but you can rest assured that despite his impotence, you'll be able to proudly display that "Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Ron Paul" sticker on the back of your federally-mandated hybrid.

I don't have time to argue with people who don't want liberty and freedom.

Suit yourself.

Take me with you and I will hunt you.

Take me with you and I will hunt you.

I have a question. How should I take this? Is this a threat or is there some metaphorical implication that I missed.

I'm not sure that we both understand the word "metaphorical" in the same way. I read it and I think it means a "word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing used to designate another". I think you read it and think "metablahblahblah".

So I could be wrong about the threat thing.

Do the math - the article indicates that only 30% voted. IF the supposedly loud boos are an indicator - it would have only taken more folks voting to change the outcome (doesn’t that sound familiar).
