Jesus' Return (for the Rapture of all who belong to Him) is Very Near
The Bible at Bible.com ^ | Today Feb whatever it is, 2010 | self

Disasters - earthquake, Tsunami, others - happening rapidly now.

Read Matthew 24. There will be earthquakes.....etc.

When we see these events occurring in increasing frequency it is because these are the "birth pangs" that we have been told by Jesus Christ Himself - would happen closer together in time as do the birth pangs of a woman in labor. The closer she gets to giving birth, the worse the birth pangs become and the closer together they come.

That is utterly silly.

For starters, the key word in your first paragraph is “recorded”: by whom? what was/were the basis/bases for observation and measurement? Where were the measurement stations? How did people define an earthquake?

Dispatch From Jerusalem is hardly a credible source.

Footsteps of the Messiah, Chap 4, p96
Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum

The earthquake factor is even more interesting. According to the Encyclopedia Americana, between the years 63-1896 A.D. there were only twenty-six recorded earthquakes. Most of the world’s earthquakes began to occur since 1900 (per USGS Natl Earthquake Information Center. Earthquakes with 1,000 or more deaths from 1900.) (http:neic.usgs.gov/neis/eqlists/eqsmajr.html. 12May2000)

More recent web lists form USGS record some 80 quakes from 856AD to 1896, and some 432 major quakes for the 20th century, while in the first decade alone over 432 major quakes over 6.0 have been recorded (this tally is not consistent though, as some of those in the 20th century 432 tally are less than 3.0 located in remote areas or are aftershocks, while frequently over 100 quakes are recorded daily in the same range in the early 21st century. see http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/world/historical.php)

One article from the “Dispatch from Jerusalem”, 3rdQtr, 1992, p.11 referenced in Footsteps of the Messiah provides a greater number in middle centuries as recorded:

“In the first 1000 years after Jesus, there were approxiamately 5 recorded major earthquakes (although we are sure more occurred in remote locations). However, the trend has been on the increase:
14th century, there were 157 major earthquakes.
15th century, there were 174 major earthquakes.
16th century, there were 253 major earthquakes.
17th century, there were 278 major earthquakes.
18th century, there were 640 major earthquakes.
19th century, there were 2119 major earthquakes.
Nearly 900,000 earthquakes have been recorded thus so far in the 20th century. An earthquake every hour!”

The trend does appear to be undeniably increasing with respect to the impact of earthquakes upon humanity.

It isn’t clear after reviewing the stats from USGS exactly how the frequency is increasing, though. The criterion of total quake count isn’t always presented, even within the usgs statistical reporting.

There does appear world wide for a trend of about 3 quakes per century prior to the 1700s, then 3 per decade through the 1800s, and the rate increased from about 30 per decade in the early 20th century to now about 30 per year in the 21st century.

If one is looking for records over 2000 years old, then USGS would not be a credible source compared to one from Jerusalem.

AHAH!!

Your Youtube reference finally solved the Danuelson and Mr Meoggie hand motion, sanding, waxing and painting references for me.

After entering a few different versions of "Danuelson", Youtube finally came up with a string of Karate Kid clips!

Then, by searching "Karate Kid" I found that the characters are Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi, and that Mr Miyagi trains Daniel to defend himself from bullies. Wiki has a paragraph explaining the chores used in his training.

I assume the "Danuelson" is the Okinawan immigrant Mr. Miyagi talking to Daniel-san.

Since I had never watched the Karate Kid, your recitation of the plot was completely meaningless.

Now, about "trusting in his afflictions" . . . . . . ?

I wouldn’t call yesterday’s events a relatively calm earthquake period, would you?

You wrote this:

“...it will be something beyond normal and inexplicable by our meager abilities to understand.”

Exactly right - which is what it appears is happening - just as you describe it will be...at that time.

Well FRiend, it appears, we are AT THAT VERY TIME!

(sorry I did yell that)

I realize how awesome and amazing it is to actually think we are indeed at the time long foretold by the prophets of old, and by Jesus Himself - it is so awesome that many of us shrink back from believing this could possibly be true.

Believe me it would be a lot easier right now if this were NOT happening right about now!

But apparently it is.. And so, it is what it is. Nothing can change that.

What to do?

Seek His face in prayer, in reading the Bible and asking Him to direct our steps.

And believe it or not, praying that the words of our mouths (and keyboards) and the meditations of our hearts will be acceptable in His sight, our Strength and Our Redeemer!

And let no man (or woman) take offense at Jesus Christ today!

(Per J Vernon Magee’s sermon right now on BBNRADIO.org...

If we confess our sins unto God, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness!

How does He do it? By His shed blood and by the washing of our heart and mind that takes place when we hear and read and speak and sing the Word of God!

Then He gives us HIS PEACE that passeth all understanding, not as the world giveth....but He gives His peace to all His beloveds....

Thank you, dear Precious Lord Jesus!

Yes, the article itself, which is from ICR (the Institute for Creation Research), and not an outfit designed to discredit the Bible for being prophetic, by the way — is from ten years ago. So, the data runs from the beginning of our records up to ten years ago.

However, what you’ll also see is that the data of the earthquakes not increasing has continued to be affirmed -- to the present time, and I included that information according to the USGS, up to today (current on their website). See Post #428 ...

So, it’s a Christian group of scientists who have analyzed this data and have shown that there is no increase in earthquakes and that was ten years ago (for the article) — and USGS continues to affirm that same data — up to today.

I don’t think you’re going to find anything to show that earthquakes are really increasing. And remember, we’re not trying to discredit the Bible, or the Rapture or the coming of Jesus to set up the Kingdom — that’s all absolutely going to happen and I believe, happen very soon. It’s just that this “earthquake data” doesn’t show any increase — which is not something against the Bible, because I don’t believe that the Bible really indicates that earthquakes will increase prior to the Tribulation period, anyway — and our facts that we have today, seem to confirm that idea.

I hope you see what I mean, and if there is anyone who is solidly for the soon coming Rapture (even possible today)... it would be me... :-)

Every event that has occurred or is occurring at this time is no greater in intensity or frequency then at any other such time in the past. Any other unusual occurrences have been explained with science and observations such as the runaway Russian missile spinning a cloud of exhaust over Norway. That was not God, it was bad design.

The events of which I speak will be at a whole other level and not so easily explained.

As it is you are just one in 2000 year old line of doom saying “prophets” that do little to further Chirst work and indeed often detract from it.

Scaring people to Christ saying that the end is near is not very effective, especially when time proves the end was not even at its beginning...

What Mr. Guinan is referring to is the idea of ‘premillenialism’, which was about long before the ideas of the Rapture were formulated in the 1800s.

Rapture has its roots in premillenialism, a doctrine that has long been rejected by the Church.

Though to be fair, he could have made a better distinction between the Rapture and ‘historic premillenialism’.

It wasn’t a deep theological mystery that needed unraveling. It was an inane analogy to the working of the Holy Spirit with an old Ralph Macchio flick that these hyper-charismatics all too often employ.

You were saying ...

You don’t think a 7.0 earthquake in Haiti - the worst earthquake there in 200 years - or an 8.8 earthquake in Chile the most intense earthquake in the world (that I have read of) so far this year - you don’t think these are “special events”???

Those are catastrophic earthquake events, to be sure, but they are not special, in terms of them not having happened before and many times before.

A lot of people think of California when we talk about earthquakes, but the most severe one that we had in the "lower 48" was in New Madrid area, in 1811 and 1812, the most severe earthquake in U.S. history.

Then, there was the one that rivaled the one in Chile, that happened in Alaska, in the middle of last century, in 1964. That one was quite severe.

And then, in Oregon, they're getting ready for the 9.0 to 10.0 earthquake that is supposed to hit there (and it has several times in the past, the last one being a 9.0 earthquake). That earthquake would happen as part of the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

Now, you should know me by now, and I'm 100% behind what the Bible says about our soon coming Rapture (at any moment, it could happen) and then afterwards the 7-year Tribulation and then Jesus, the Messiah of Israel setting up His one-world government over all people on the planet (which will include the people we living here today). But, this "earthquake data" simply does not back up any increase in activity... and the Bible does not require that kind of understanding either...

As far as I can see, the Bible talks about events that are catastrophic and beyond disputing -- which happen during the Tribulation time, and not leading up to it. And we're not in the Tribulation right now, although it could be right around the corner -- but we won't know ahead of time. We'll only have the sense of it being close, "right at the door" and that's about all we'll know.

I wouldn't be using "earthquakes" for any "sign" for things leading up to the Tribulation period. You're barking up the wrong tree here... :-)

Instead -- come on over to the "Rapture Caucus" and let's discuss what we can know and understand from the Bible about the Rapture... :-)

The Rapture [RAPTURE CAUCUS]

And many people who love to try to shut up Christians with that verse conveniently leave this out:

Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. (Mark 13:29, 30)

The scripture reference would have been enough as you know...why scroll it out here?

You’re responses appear to me to be that of third party directed as if you feel the need to ‘show’ your position,... rather than to dialogue with the poster directly...and are going off on a tangent of your own as you did here, repeating and enlarging on a post you already posted.....

Are you really listening to what people are saying? or just using these to voice and table your personal objectives? It would appear so at times moreso than others.

That was written 2,000 years.
I think it foolish for people to read end times predicting into every natural disaster that happens.
I find it foolish, and faulty theology. It erodes the credibility of the Christian message.
Paul wrote and admonished those early Christians who were doing the same thing. They were sitting around and not working as they assumed the end was imminent.
