ASHLAND, Wis. | Rep. David Obey has won 21 straight races, easily prevailing through wars and economic crises that have spanned presidencies from Nixon to Obama. Yet the discontent with Washington surging through politics is now threatening not only his seat but Democratic control of Congress.
Obey is one of nearly a dozen well-established House Democrats who are bracing for something they rarely face: serious competition. Their predicament is the latest sign of distress for their party and underlines why Republicans are confident of big gains in November, and perhaps even winning back the House.
The fight for the midterm elections is not confined to traditional battlegrounds, where Republicans and Democrats often swap seats every few cycles. In the Senate, Democrats are struggling to hold on to, among others, seats once held by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Democrats are preparing to lose as many as 30 House seats - including a wave of first-term members - and Republicans have expanded their sights to places where political challenges seldom develop.
"It's not a lifetime appointment," said Sean Duffy, a Republican district attorney here in the north woods of Wisconsin, where he has established himself as one of the most aggressive challengers to Obey since the Democrat went to Washington in 1969. "There are changes in this country going on and people aren't happy."

Why are so called Republicans gaining favor because of the backlash against government!
All should be getting a backhand from the polls!
Conservatism is being lifted but republicans shouldn’t be the only one to benefit!
Conservatives of all persuasions, are the driving force here!
I emailed your email. Thanks for posting that one. Got a great chuckle out of it.
LOL! The NY Times has a sense of humor.
Oh trust me, the media will sugarcoat that.
They’ll say it’s a revolt against incumbents, distrust with govt, they’ll claim that it’s just discontent. They did that when 94 GOP swept, and when the GOP took control in 2000.
The media spin in November will outdo anything we’ve EVER seen.
Things are very different this time around. The center-right isn't listening to them any longer, because the media have outed themselves as Marxist boot-lickers.
At present, they're only singing to the "choir".
Have you noticed that their ratings and circulations have plummeted in recent years, and are continuing into the toilet? It's because the center-right is leaving them in droves and finding more honest, accurate sources of information.
And, because we're getting better, more accurate information, we're pissed as never before, and are ready to open a can of Whoop-Ass on them like they've never seen.
Let 'em spin. The hard-core, thumb-sucking left will be listening. We'll be laughing while voting them out of office.
I don’t care about the Senate Majority. I just want the House back.
One good thing about a Senate majority would be that they could put a stop to appointments of radical judges.
My husband was in Las Vegas for a conference last week. Everyone he spoke to there told him what a mess it is. Unemployment is way up. Home foreclosures are through the roof. The teachers are being asked to take on larger classes and the unions lower/ frozen wages. The mayor “joked” that maybe they should take all the workers out to the new bungee jump off the tower that has the roller coaster and who ever survives can keep their jobs. Didn’t go over really big...
After he had told me all the awful stories I said.” Well at least we will get rid of Harry Reid!”
**The Dems are going to suffer an historic bloodbath in November.**
Dems will suffer... but ... they would lose to a bunch of GOLDEN RETRIEVERS after their Behavior.
GOP ... Don’t let this make you think you have it made... After you beat the DEMS.. you have to Deal with US... and WE’RE NOT HAPPY!!

Goober FlamingGrahamnesty is still on that committee, tho, so I’m not counting any Chickens just yet
have become a different genre of the welfare momma.
And in 1994, the late (not so great) Peter Jennings said that the voters had thrown a “temper tantrum.”
Thanks for pointing that out. Excellent.
