Police say all guns that are turned in will be destroyed.

So they say...
Probably just the worthless toys.

I would love to turn a box full of junk I am afraid to fire, and buy a nice piece with the money.

We can call it “Glocks For Clunkers”.

That would be illegal...This is a no questions asked program.

Right, and as we know, nothing illegal ever happens in Chicago. ;-)

So if you’re going to buy a “nice piece” why call the program “Glocks for clunkers”? ;-)

“This is a head-scratcher. Who’s gonna turn in a $500 semi-automatic rifle in exchange for $100”

Nobody ;-)

What happens is that in the days leading up to the gun turn-in, burglaries and thefts of guns taken from people’s homes in the Chicago area goes up. These guns are turned in for the cash, except maybe if it’s something that the thief really wants to keep.

There isn’t a weapon that I own that cost me less than $500. Most are double or almost triple or more than that.

Kill a couple homies? How do you get ‘rid’ of the ‘piece’ so it can’t be traced back to you? River not deep enough? Lake not remote enough?

No problem .... give it to the Police and get $100 for your troubles. Evidence destroyed, and you got $100 in your pocket to get yourself a new one.

I watched a report on this yesterday, along with a story on the killings. What is so damn hard to understand that it is not the guns that bring the violence it is the people. Looking at footage of the neighborhoods and it’s residences, it is pitiful that people have allowed themselves to live like that. They certainly didn’t show themselves as wanting anything other than what they had. Dressed like a thug, walking like a thug, hanging out like thugs, etc.

Just the other day a boy came up to me in the parking lot selling Peanut Brittle, his rap was that me buying the Peanut Brittle would help keep him from being in a gang and keep him away from guns and basically keep him from becoming a criminal. I thought, I have 3 sons, I have never worried about them being in a gang or them using a gun to shoot people! Money is not going to stop you from being a thug, you prevent yourself from being a thug!

That might be OK if the buyback was the week after the cappings, and if you trusted the cops to do what they said they were going to, but it's of note that there's a lot of smelters in the midwest. If one of your relatives or homeboys-gone-straight works at one of those mills....or a hand grinder can turn the barrel into sparks in about 30 seconds, and the rest of the piece doesn't matter.

I hope you didn't buy the brittle! I'd hate to think I kept guns from someone and all I got out of it was some peanut brittle.

They're giving $100 for each assault weapon, $75 for guns and $10 for BB guns, air guns and replica guns.

If I assault someone with a baseball bat, will they give me $100 for it? How about a rock?

Other than someone who stole it for Zero, or a sucker, I guess..

replica guns?

Sure. If bought in bulk at 5 cents each, that's $1.95
of taxpayer dollars profit that Chicago cops are giving away.

What will they give you if you turn in a gangbanger. One that is likely to kill someone if they hadn’t already. Probably nothing. I guess it’s easier to buy worthless piece of junk that probably wouldn’t cause anyone harm anyway and say “At least we’re doing something”

That’s crazy, I’d give $150 or maybe $200 for a working assault rifle if they want to get rid of it.

Chicago isn’t paying nearly what they’re worth.

If they want the guns, they need to pay at least replacement price.

IF I had any weapon, just sayin’ IF, I’d want at least $50,000 to give it up. IF just sayin’ IF.

It’s a cheap way for Chicago cops to get some untraceable drop guns.
