This is the 1st CD in West Virginia. It includes all of the Northern Panhandle (i.e., Wheeling and Weirton), the Ohio Valley down to Parkersburg, the “I-79 high tech corridor” including Morgantown, Fairmont, Clarksburg, and some other counties in northern West Virginia (but not the eastern panhandle, which is in Shelley Moore Capito’s district).

All the Dems who voted for Obamacare are taking notice. And unless they represent districts like South Central L.A. or San Franfreako, they need to be real worried.

Wrong. Dem turnout is 60k, GOP turnout 38k. Given there is no liberal baggage for Oliverio, this is probably a Dem hold in November.

From The Campaign Spot on NRO:

In response to Congressman Alan Mollohan’s loss to state Senator Mike Oliverio in the West Virginia primary election tonight, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, offered the following statement:

“Just as Bart Stupak did, Congressman Mollohan now fully realizes that votes do have consequences. Mollohan’s loss comes as a direct result of his vote for healthcare reform that included federal funding of abortion.

“We promised Rep. Mollohan and the other ‘pro-life’ Democrats that we would make their re-election incredibly painful if they voted ‘yes’ on the healthcare bill. Tonight, the Susan B. Anthony List followed through on that promise, and Rep. Mollohan is the second member of that coalition to see those consequences.

“This should be just another sign to ‘pro-life’ Democrats that voted for the healthcare bill that they will face the same consequences as Stupak and Mollohan.”

The republicans will be out in huge numbers this November. Either way, a conservative Democrat is better than Mollohan.

I told him I would work to defeat him and donate to defeat him.

First time I ever told an elected official that.....

I am proud.

I stopped watching the vile filth of the ‘stars’ just for this purpose. It has paid off!

You might want to develop your search skills. A simple search of the candidates name would tell you where he is from, what district he represents, and what party he belongs to. Its really simple, and when you are done, you will be a better informed citizen.

None of us can be expected to know each of the current members of Congress or to know the particulars of their individual races, but its so easy these days to become an expert. After a simple Google search on the name, go to the Cook Political report and learn about his district. Before long, you will know more than anyone in your neighborhood.

I agree. Who the heck are these people? The name seems vaguely familiar.

If Oliverio was running against McCain in the Pubbie primary which candidate would win?

It would have been much easier for a Republican to run against Mollohan than Oliverio. There were so many lines attack against Mollohan, but not much on Oliverio.

In the Wikipedia article on this congressional district it already lists Mollahan as having lost on May 11. 2010.

I am proud to say that I knew exactly who Maelstorm's title was about, without having to Google it.

That's why I keep saying that we have to run against the Party. The mere fact of a D after Oliverio's name means that he helps Nancy Pelosi to retain control of the House, and therefore, even though he may personally oppose the leftist agenda, he helps to advance it nevertheless.

"Oliverio is a DINO in many ways."

He sounds preferable to many Republicans, frankly. I gather he won't be herded by the likes of Pelosi, Reid or Obama. Good stuff. The GOP has pissed me off so mightily over the past two decades that I really have no built-in preference for a party label any more. I'd take a Zell Miller over a Lindsay Graham just about any time. This guy Oliverio sounds pretty good. May his tribe increase among the Dems.
