A question for birthers: why Mombassa?
Vanity | Me

Posted on 05/12/2010 8:47:16 AM PDT by curiosity

The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.

Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?

Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.

What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.

I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.

So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?

Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?

complete nonsense. The COLB is an official Hawaii document

COLB Meaning? "Certification of Live Birth" or "Certificate of Live Birth"? There is a major difference.

Regardless of the snow jobs, this is a very serious issue.

“Numerous states have now passed laws to require that certificate to be placed on the ballot.” ......... Which states? Links? I have heard that a few are considering such laws, but none that have passed.

LOL! Parsy, what would you do for fun if Obama spoiled it all by releasing his pile of hidden records tomorrow?

Don't be so smug.

There are legitimate questions and the jury is still out.

I find it curious that you would flame an entire group of FReepers and then just ignore the numerous questions that have been directed to you.

And, in case doctor obvious hasn’t visited yet, the point of the requests for a copy of his LONG version birth certificate isn’t for the birth certificate!!

It’s to gain entrance to all the information that THE ONE has spent 2 million dollars on to keep hidden from the public.

Apparently, being a shill for non-transparency has temporarily addled your otherwise fine economist’s mind.

Be careful lumping people into one large pile. There are a lot of folks who want to know more about his birth certificate who don’t necessarily maintain he was born in Kenya, nor do they have any specific theories at all. They just want to know what is on the original birth certificate that he is hiding. In fact I’d say the group you are criticizing here is an extremely small subset of those who are often disparagingly referred to as “birthers.”

My sentiments exactly. Why not just show respect for the country by releasing the long form and be done with it? Why waste the courts' time and pay lawyers to fight this for years?

Even Obama sycophants like Andrew Sullivan agreed months ago that he needs to release the long form.

You might read this FR Post: Barack Obama Sighting, Hawaii 1980.

This wasn't the first time I heard Mombasa mentioned, but it sure seemed like strong support to me. Be sure to read the initial post, following the link to see everything, and then begin reading the replies maybe with #15 and #17. If you are really interested in this I think you'll wish there were more than 335 replies.

Pretty good for a guy that doesn’t care for this stuff.

So you survived those storms the other day huh?

Mom and sister said they were braced for the worst and then mysteriously, it split in two and bypassed Tulsa.

Arizona & Oklahoma, but they have not yet been signed into law. Only passed in house.

See:

Several other states have had proposed laws introduced.
