Hispanic Voters Drift From GOP

By MIRIAM JORDAN

LOS ANGELES — California Hispanics who registered to vote since the last midterm election are less likely to be Republican than those who registered just four years earlier, according to an analysis of party affiliation released Friday.

The report by the nonpartisan National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, or Naleo, also shows Hispanics—the fastest-growing voter bloc—are increasingly prone to register as independent, mirroring the trend among all voters.

Among California Latinos who registered between the 2002 and 2006 midterm elections, 23% were Republican, 50% were Democrats and 23% declined to state. More recently, GOP affiliation among Latinos has begun to slip. For those who registered since the 2006 midterm vote, only 16% are Republicans, 56% are Democrats and 24% declined to state an affiliation. For non-Latino voters, the figures are 24% Republican, 44% Democrat and 26% independent since 2006.

Naleo officials and political analysts said the shift could be accelerated by Republican campaign rhetoric championing a get-tougher approach toward illegal immigrants. The top two candidates in California's GOP gubernatorial primary, for example, have courted conservative voters by flooding the airwaves with ads calling for tighter borders and stricter laws.

"Even longtime Republican Latinos are unhappy with this emotional rhetoric," said Lionel Sosa, a media strategist on the Hispanic vote for seven GOP presidents. "Republicans feel they have to go way to the right on immigration to win the primaries. If they want to get elected, they'll need the Hispanic vote."

I didn’t think I would take on such hard criticism for suggestion the Democrats could lose a nice chuck of the Jewish vote to the Republicans by the way they are treating Israel. Reagan got a larger percentage of the Jewish vote than Jimmy Carter and it could happen again IF the Republicans can stand their ground and support Israel – and show that there is a clear choice between the Anti-Semites on the Left and the supporters of Israel on the Right.

I don’t believe the majority of the legal American citizens in the Hispanic community support illegal immigration. Americans citizens of hispanic origin usually want a job, low taxes, etc. like most people. I think a lot of these folks like everyone else, have been hurt by Obama and if they cannot connect the dots then forget them.

Some of them do have the same mentality of liberal Cayjolic union voters or liberal Jewish voters but not all. I think this is a BS story.

What was the source? Open-borders Wall Street Journal?

Not sure, but I think the poster supports a soft stance towards Illegals.

You have a solid point. Stick to your guns!

When did the GOP ever have their vote? More LSM propaganda.

My point is, a Jewish swing to the Right could offset higher than normal Hispanic votes going Democrat.

There are 1.6 million Jews in New York (the most of any state). Even if every single one of them had voted for McCain, that still wouldn't have been enough to overcome Obama's win by 2.8 million votes in that state. Same goes for California (second biggest Jewish population). My point is, there's nothing wrong with trying to appeal to Jews, but the numbers just aren't there to overcome a Hispanic population that is seven times greater and growing faster than any other group. This group of voters can't be just written off by any party that wants long-term electoral success.

What is my brilliant strategy? Appealing to Jews and Hispanics (and everyone else) through stressing family values and free markets. Same as the conservative message has always been.

A voter ID bill passed in every state should go a long way in thinning out the rat vote.

I have a friend who married an Hispanic fellow. Whenever Ronald Reagan was on TV, he shushed everyone around him to be quiet.

I got a big kick out of that.

Doesn’t really matter what you believe.. fact is, 65% vote democrat. So if you are or know one of the 35% thats great, but in the end, we’re fubar. We are probably already fubar. Like falling off a cliff, we’re not dead yet, but the prospects are dire.

The Wall Street Journal unzipped the pants of La Raza about 15 years ago, instituted a lip-lock, and hasn’t come up for air since.

On this issue, it’s as worthless as a 13th ass.

If they want to get elected, they'll need the Hispanic vote.”

Correction: If the GOP candidates want to lose, they can pander to Latino open borders, pro amnesty, pro-illegal immigrant, pro-law breaker, LaRaza crowd.
McCain was more pro amnesty than Barack 0bama, and look what happened to him. Latino’s voted overwhelmingly for 0bama and against McCain. If that is not a lesson to stupid Republicans, I don;t know what is.

That’s why Obama hates Arizona for bringing up the obvious. Arizona put her cards on the table and said “show-em”. It caught the whole illegal movement off guard. Watch how organized it is. These stupid cities across the Country tells you the infiltration. Spend accordingly.

Yes, it true that the Hispanics/Latino are important and can make or break an election

I doubt it.

Read this from Ann Coulter:
“The media have been crowing that Republicans will lose the Hispanic vote forever if they support enforcing laws against illegal immigration, such as the Arizona law. To great fanfare, a poll was released last week showing that 67 percent of Hispanics oppose the Arizona law.

The headline on that poll should have been: “One-Third of Hispanics Support Arizona Immigration Law Despite Frantic Media Campaign to Convince Them It’s a Racist Plot Against Hispanics.”

Incidentally, 67 percent of Hispanics also vote Democrat. The exact same percentage of Hispanics who oppose the Arizona law voted for Obama over John McCain — who was championing amnesty for illegals.

Suck up to Hispanics with insane amnesty proposals; get one out of three Hispanic voters. Do the right thing and defend the country's borders; get one out of three Hispanic voters. ... Promise to make every Tuesday “Ladies’ Night”; get one out of three Hispanic voters. Offer them a choice between “Extra Crispy” and “Original Recipe”; get one out of three Hispanic voters.

Indeed, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday, only 52 percent of Hispanics oppose the law, while 37 percent support it. In other words, more Hispanics support the Arizona law (37 percent) than voted for John McCain (31 percent) -– which is the strongest argument for amnesty I've heard in my entire life.

Overall, 66 percent of voters support enforcing the border before discussing amnesty. A plurality — 48 percent to 35 percent — would like their own states to pass a law just like Arizona's, despite the strong likelihood that the mainstream media will accuse them of being Nazi police states. “

Being tough on illegal immigration is a sure vote winner for Republic-cans.

http://www.collinsreport.net/2010/05/12/if-conservatives-oppose-amnesty-hispanics-will-punish-them-in-november-the-numbers-say-otherwise/

This more scare tactics from the Democrat controlled media.
This is a simple matter: We can’t hand our country over to these illegal aliens just to suck up to Hispanic voters, In November we are going to win without them and the Blacks. Both of them can stay in the big Democrat nests while the rest of us rebuild American freedoms. It is much better to lose our country by trying to save it then to lose it by cooperating with evil.

I and my entire family, parents and brothers and sisters, all count ourselves among the original Reagan Democrats. Nobody needs to tell us how to convince people they are now on the wrong side. Yes things like Family Values are a good thing but the Democrats are experts at turning that against you. Get one Republican congressman to get caught in an affair or TV minister giving his tearful confession and they blow that “were the family value party” right out of the water. We need to look back at all of what Reagan did to win, and then wisely communicate it all. Remember Jimmy Carter was killing Reagan in the polls until Reagan uttered a few simple words – “Are you better off than you were four years ago”.

The Reagan principles that attracted Jew and Gentile alike included a strong National Defense, and in this day and age that means standing up against terrorism, even when one of our allies is the one under attack. We need to show how the Democrats are the weak knee party when it comes to terrorism.

We attract those moderates by NOT shifting to the center but by standing firm on the Reagan principles and then shining a spotlight on the Democrats Leftist platform and record. And there are more than enough moderates to counter any gains in Hispanic votes for the Left.

We once uttered the words “I didn’t leave the Democrat Party, the Party left me”. There is no reason that in 2010 and 2012 millions of new people can’t be saying those same words.
