New government entity to take control over military and civilian networks

This is pretty scary stuff. The Federal government is ready to seize control of private company networks in order to "protect" us in the event of a hacker attack.

Basically I’m thinking along the lines of what we did before the internet with BBS boards. Just black screen DOS with chat rolling. Instead of using the connection to get into an IP address, you could use a private line to connect to a BBS type board.

Refresh your memory about Fidonet.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the old CB radio. (I have one in the closet near the gun safe and ammo.)

Learn about them, build a beam antenna, will transmit for 100 miles on 4 watts, can run off a battery, very portable and inexpensive.

All freepers decide on a channel to meet on, buy a radio off ebay for cheap, Start learning.

When TSHTF, one person in a different location transmits for one minute every night at a different location...All hypothetical of course....

Potentially cloud computing. Just don’t use Google!

I’ve been thinking about this very scenario for quite a while. Organization is the key and for FR members it is what we are lacking beyond the internet.

If the government shuts down communication via the internet...chaos will ensue. Psychologically Americans are addicted to information and taking over the net, TV, Radio, phones, cell phones...and issuing propaganda news will not serve them well.

Unfortunately even systems like (FreeNet) that have been hacked. Tor was hacked which is how Wikeleaks was able to download a few million documents in a short period of time.

They would control the utilities as they are part of the critical infrastucture. Scary, eh?

Actually there is a lot to be concerned about. New monitoring agents will be mandatory which report back to the the agency (EINSTEIN 2 & 3). Action (taking control of a private network, preemptive strike, etc) can be executed simply by a request from DHS.

Pretty much what I was thinking. The headline is much scarier than the concept. I’m just relieved this isn’t some new “czar” with a plan.

Simple: We meet in groups of five, five tables pushed together, the Greek symbol for five is :"V". A little Beethoven music like the 5th Symphony ....

One can be quite open - even the places like the Golden Corral etc

Just watch for V's and Fives....

I would laugh hysterically if someone successfully hacked “cybercom”. Just on general principal, the government has NO right to interfere with private communications at any level.

It’s quite obvious that their goal is to control communications. The question is, under what circumstances would they want to do so?

I’ve been saying this for almost a year. We freepers need a backup network. Time for ham operators to step forward unless everyone is so scared to do so. Freep mail me and we will build our own airwave path to each part of the country.
