President Obama told a Wisconsin town hall today that the unemployment rate is lower than it would be if the Recovery Act (the stimulus) had not passed.
Obama told the audience “unemployment's at 9.6%." That is above the 8% the administration predicted with the stimulus implemented.
“Yes, but it's not 12 or 13 or 15," Obama said defending his policy.
The economy "recovered more than people expected last year," he added.
"Things aren't as bad as they could have been, this could have been a catastrophe, in that sense it [the stimulus] worked," Obama claimed.

Part of the problem is because the “existing base” of employment is not constant, but varies by season.
For example, in the summer, students work (and are so counted), but in the winter, they’re in school, and so are not counted. Lots of seasonal variety - fishing, outdoor guides, campground workers, etc. - so the only accurate way to compare is with a similar time in years past.

Good point, I will look up the numbers now. The only thing I can tell you for sources is the news. Every month and every quarter statistics are put out and I hear we lost x amount of jobs...again. But I did find this and I am currently on this website to weed out the exact numbers.

Yes and if you go by the standards of Unemployment reporting from the 30's and 40's (actually counting ALL the people out of work...) we are at depression level unemployment right now!

The official name for this ‘unemployment rate’ the percentage who are unemployed and actively looking for work. If they have gotten a part time job, or who have at least temporarily stopped actively looking for work they aren’t counted as unemployed in this statistic.
The first black President’s last name should have been “Williams” or “Sowell”, then we wouldn’t be in this financial mess...but now I’m only dreaming....
