NRA Mulls Harry Reid Endorsement

The National Rifle Association has puzzled many observers as well as angered its conservative members by remaining neutral in the contest for Nevada’s seat in the US Senate in November. In that race, Sharron Angle is challenging incumbent Harry Reid, running on the Republican ticket as a Tea Party conservative. Her own campaign site notes as follows her position on the right to bear arms.

In my mind, there's only one question that the NRA should be asking. Has Reid voted the way the NRA recommended, on the votes the NRA said it would score?

There are plenty of reasons to despise Reid, but none of them are relevant, other than his record on the scored votes.

What message does it send, to legislators in the future, if Reid votes with the NRA on every issue they score, and the NRA grades him poorly, anyway? How many legislators would vote with the NRA, if they thought that the NRA would grade against them, anyway?

People are ranting about the NRA's integrity. If the NRA is to preserve its integrity, it MUST issue its grades on the criteria it has said it will issue its grades on. Even if that means giving an A grade to someone that most of the members have serious problems with, on issues other than the scored votes.

Step one: Get rid of Harry Reid

Step two: Fail to have a Republican majority in the Congress

Step three: Watch as an antigun leftist fills Harry’s job

Step four: Watch as dozens of antigun bills flood the Congress

Step five: Complain to the NRA they aren’t doing enough to stop dozens of bills in Congress

AND FOR ALL YOU IGNORANT ANTIGUN NRA HATING IDIOTS:

1. The NRA didn’t become a lobbying group until 1974.

2. While whiners complain about mail, guys like me get out the checkbook.

3. The NRA fought against Parker, not Heller. That’s because Parker was filed before Roberts and Alito. We would have lost. The NRA knows how to count to the number nine.

4. The goa has never done a single thing in it’s entire history. It’s the NRA and the SAF that filed all those lawsuits.

5. The “R” in the NRA stands for rifle. Not Republican. Get rid of Reid AFTER taking control of Congress or you’ll be whining about gun control and pleading for the NRA again. As always.

6. The antigunners hate the NRA just as much as some freepers. That explains the mentality of some freepers.

7. The media doesn’t know the name of any progun group other than the NRA. That should tell you something but you’re too stupid to understand.

8. The goa is the only gun group that asked the Supreme Court to take the narrow view. So far, they haven’t filed a single lawsuit to take responsibility for their actions. It’s the NRA and the SAF that filed all those lawsuits.

9. Lazy, stupid people always have an excuse not to get involved.

Tell me a single thing the goa has ever done on their own.

McDonald vs. Chicago. Nope, SAF.

Katrina victims? Nope, NRA.

Winnetka Lawsuits? Nope, SAF and NRA

Morton Grove Lawsuit? Nope, NRA.

San Francisco? Nope, NRA

Evanston? Nope, NRA and SAF

Parker? Nope, Robert Levy and it’s a good thing the case became Heller with Roberts and Alito or we would have lost. That’s why the NRA tried to stop it.

Heller? Nope, Levy again.

United Nations attacks? Nope, NRA as a Non Government Organization.

Free legal support for their members? Nope, NRA.

Even Basil’s Second Amendment Sisters give women’s classes

JPFO? They aren’t even a lobbying group.

Who does the leftist media fear? I’ll give you a hint, the initials are NRA.

NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN WHAT THE goa HAS EVER DONE ON THEIR OWN IN THEIR ENTIRE HISTORY.

NO ONE ESPECIALLY AvOrdVet WHO STILL CAN’T FIND A SINGLE THING THE goa HAS EVER DONE ON THEIR OWN.

I love Harry’s $61 million outdoor desert gun range with about 20 lanes. The NRA support that?

Does the NRA support Reid’s pal O and his cronies who “wanna kill cracker babies?”

Most ranges I’m familiar with are canyons in the hills with wooden posts, old railroad ties, and a campfire sort of arrangement for hot coffee.

Check out American Shooting Centers of Houston. It's got a rifle and pistol range with 200 *covered* positions. It's got sporting clays ranges of various sorts, 10 trap/skeet fields, and another handgun range they use for CHL lessons. It covers 563 acres. I'll bet it would take $60M to recreate that, including the land. Maybe more.

Eagle Peak Shooting Range near Austin is smaller, but maybe bit nicer. It too would not be cheap to recreate.

Is Reid part of the dem majority or isn’t he?

How are we supposed to “get rid of the dems majority” if we have to pick and choose which dems to keep?

I want to keep NONE of them. Not one. Not a stinking solitary one.

And if we were forced somehow into a position where we could only get rid ONE stinking scumbag dem... the ONE stinking scumbag dem I would MOST want to get rid of would be:

Stinking scumbag dem Harry Reid.

Yes. These NRA defenders would be happy if we all had to wear burkahs but at least we could carry single shot 22 pistols CCW tucked in our muslim prayer rugs.

What happened to LaPierre? He took on Clinton, in at the time, was a very risky bet and won. Now, he and Cox are probably on the prayer rug for Hussein. The idiots would get more members if they went after the saudi agent and his pals who “wanna kill some cracker babies.”

Reid is pure scum and he should be in jail.

I am amazed at how naive people including here. They have no clue what is going on. Keep watching them NCAA ball games.

NO ONE ESPECIALLY AvOrdVet WHO STILL CAN’T FIND A SINGLE THING THE goa HAS EVER DONE ON THEIR OWN.

Well howdy again 2.5,

You should know by now that its impolite to speak about someone without pinging them, but then again that would be the honorable thing to do... just saying!

The difference between you and other FReepers including me, is that we don't have to lie and belittle others to get our point across, and I surely do not personally attack fellow FReepers and 2A activists in defense of some pathetic bias as you did in the last thread... I'm beginning to think its some kind of a GOA Derangement Syndrome.

So again, for FReepers old and new,

Meet ‘ole 2.5, the GOA hating NRA member…

Here he is spewing his typical, and not very enlightened rant, without listening to a word someone else says… Typical 2.5 whining rant about the GOA.

and here he is in another thread using his typical whining rant with me… 2.5 gets the real facts and then gets caught in a couple of, well let’s say... factual distortions.

And yet again, after being confronted with facts defeating his position he continues to defend the indefensible.

So after getting his butt severely kicked to the curb many times, he continued to resort to distortions, twisting everyone’s words and in some cases; out right lying about his actions in an attempt to defend his pitifully weak bias.

Even so, I tried to reach out over a year after he told his usual fibs and help him see the error of his non-question, but he again went back to his old ways of unfairly attacking fellow 2A groups.

When he finally saw his stands falling apart, he then stooped to a new low and started personally attacking people that disagreed with his thoughts in the debate…2.5 attacks fellow FReepers that are engaged in the 2A discussion, and what was worse is that HE ATTACKED THE WRONG PERSON!

Many people have answered his questions and countered his stands in-numerous times… he just refuses to see it.

So again, 2.5 my point is, and has always been, that if you can’t have an honest debate fighting a common enemy, then do everyone else a favor… stay on the sidelines and argue with yourself, don’t try to distort the focus of this fight.

Every 2A group, no matter what you may think of them should be WELCOMED to the struggle we are facing, many former NRA members, myself included, who definitely have no love for the NRA leadership have been going back into the group because the stakes are so high, don’t let your petty bias cloud the big picture.

AOV sends with warmest regards, hugs and smoochies. ;-)

Actually he's very good at sinking himself... I just have to lay back until he pulls another one of his hit and runs. Soon I'll have enough of his own words for a novel... I think I will call it "2.5's 2A world, limited as it might be."

I think its got a nice ring to it and believe me, I'll keep adding his own words to my post(s), his Novel and to the various 2A threads he shows up on... well, forever I guess. :-)

I just can't believe he's went beyond debate and has now stooped to personally attacking fellow FReepers and 2A activist! Hopefully those individuals will start hitting the "Report Abuse" button.

Can't we all just get along, I'm ready for a hug, a round of holding hands and singing Kumbaya... as I'm really quite sensitive... but in a manly heterosexual sort if way ;-)

There are people in this thread who seem to be advocating the re-election of Harry Reid. I don't care what the NRA says, I don't care what "official" group says... that's insane.

“The N.R.A. is not tamping down speculation. While Mr. Cox said the group had not decided on any endorsements, he pointed to what he considered an unattractive alternative if Mr. Reid loses and the Democrats hold power. “I’ll give you four words: Majority Leader Chuck Schumer,” he said.”

Free Republic is proud to introduce Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Thanks for nothing, FR.

You keep holding up the boogie many of Majority Leader Shumer but refuse to answer my question:

How do we take back the majority if we pick and choose which dems to “keep”?

How do you do that, Shooter?

How do you go for majority control without going after every dem, especially every vulnerable dem?

If you can’t answer that question, you’re not thinking through this issue.

And please don’t say that Reid isn’t vulnerable. Please don’t say that. I am from Nevada. I have friends and family in Nevada. Reid is vulnerable. He might pull it out (using voter fraud) but he is definitely vulnerable.

In an election year when we NEED to take majority control (the survival of our freedom is at stake), you are saying, “go after this dem but not this other one”.

Pray tell, shooter, what other dems should we “exempt”?

Maybe you should give us a full list of all the “good dems” that we should leave alone — WHILE WE GO AFTER MAJORITY CONTROL (LOL!!!!!!!!).

“Here is the $61 million gun range in Clark County, NV on the NRA web site.”

I used to live in Las Vegas. 1978-1983. Used to go shooting out in the desert north of town. Last time I drove through there, in 2004, I was still driving past houses and businesses 30 minutes after I passed where I used to go to shoot. That town has grown, and I'm certain-sure they NEED a gun range there now.

I liked the NRA (past tense now). This shooting range reeks of another dirty Harry Reid real estate deal. The land value is close to $71,000 an acre for desert land and a fairly plain looking shooting range.

I am sure it was with TARP money. The NRA appears to have some involvemnet in this dirty deal.

You’re right... the NRA hasn’t done anything yet. The problem is in what they might do though. We need to keep on their case to make sure they don’t do the wrong thing. They’re politicians, just like Reid and McCain, and they need the same sort of ‘guidance.’
