PANAMA CITY, Florida (Reuters) President Barack Obama on Saturday backed off remarks that appeared to endorse a proposed Muslim cultural center near the site of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York City, saying he only supported the organizers' right to build it.
At a White House event on Friday, Obama seemed to offer his support for the construction of Cordoba House near the site known as "Ground Zero" in lower Manhattan. U.S. conservatives and many New Yorkers object to the project.
The 13-story building will include meeting rooms, a prayer space, an auditorium and a swimming pool.
His Friday comments drew criticism from conservatives and others, and the president sought to clarify them during a trip to Florida on Saturday.
"I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there," Obama told reporters while visiting the Gulf Coast.
"I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That's what our country is about."

Some idiot woman talking head with the last name Kucinich was on Fox Newschannel yesterday and said this Obama move will have no effect on the upcoming elections. Is she that dumb or thinks she alone can make it a non issue?
The polls show what Most Americans think. That is, He's a lying Islamo Scumbag celebrating Ramadan.
I think she is right. Most Americans have made up their minds that Obama is a scumbag. The 40 percent who support him would eat his crap and smile.
Remember it? Obama was cheering it on.

I was struck by Franks description of three people among the invited company in which President Obama chose to make his announcement in support the Ground Zero mosque:
Ingrid Mattson, the head of a Muslim Brotherhood satellite organization, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), that was identified by the Justice Department as an unindicted coconspirator in a terrorism financing case (and was proved, in fact, to have sent money to Hamas);
Salam al-Marayati, a self-described supporter of Hezbollah (and one Steve Emerson aptly describes as an anti-anti-terrorist); and
Dalia Mogahed, an apologist for sharias subjugation of women who has embraced ISNA, CAIR and other Islamist groups in her role as an Obama appointee to the Presidents Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Just wow. Thanks AWM!
Prolly has something to do with his sinking popularity.
Why are muslims here in the first place? American values, traditions, and beliefs, are totally and absolutely incompatible with Islam.
They have not come here to be able to freely practice their religion of violence, torture, stoning, bloodshed, and war.
They have come here to conquer and divide America. To convert or subjugate America. Their mission has no time line. If it takes a century or two, they are patient.
For now, Muslims make demands upon America to accomondate their cult practices. Demands upon airlines, schools, colleges, public facilities, and so on. America obliges. But, in the future, it will be the Jews and the Christians, in America, who will be pleading with them for mercy.
Your headline says 0 backed off his original comments. Actually, he didn’t as far as the muzzies who heard him are concerned. The Koran tells muzzies to lie to infidels if it furthers their religion; accordingly, his retraction doesn’t count.
are you f’n kidding me?
The argument lib talking heads are now using is that Republicans/conservatives oppose freedom of religion.
What a craven coward our dear leader is.
So... ineligible, moose limb, liar, thief, homosexual, Kenyan, African-colonial, communist, sans-teleprompter-inarticulate, destroying, socialist, alinskyist, narcissistic, stupid, and now cowardly. My fingers are getting sore.
For example, does anyone remember this remark from early November 2008? "At a Virginia rally - 'If youll stand with me, then I know that we can win Virginia and we can win this election and we can finally bring the change we need to Washington,' Obama told the estimated crowd of 35,000. 'I feel like we got a righteous wind at our backs here.'
Then, there is this quote from Chairman Mao:
The ill wind of opportunism is falling, the righteous wind of socialism is on the rise.
good luck
You shouldn’t hold back, tell us how you really feel. ;’) Thanks TOL!

The mere acceptance of Islam as a religion is a crime against humanity. All non muslims, who believe Islam is a religion, especially one worthy of Constitutional protections, are delusional.
Islam has but one goal in America. To conquer and divide. In that process, they will take full advantage of political correctness, as well as Constitutional protections.
America, as a majority Christian nation, is one of the worlds’ greatests threats Islam. But Islam has no military power, at least yet, to invade and conquer, and destroy America. So it seeks to perform its’ mission from the inside, utilizing American laws, and political correctness, to protect and defend as it goes about its’ stated goal, the destruction of America.
When I saw Drudge’s photo of Obama today, I knew the truth: Obama looks pale, tired, and weak. He’s been doing the Ramadan fast.
not even a glass of water on the desk
Yes. More than anyone else, I can completely picture him and his man-wife celebrating that morning.
