I do agree, however, that OpenOffice and MS Office are not 100% compatible when it comes to layout, which really matters for desktop publishing.

Neither are MS Office and the Acrobat Distiller! Try putting hyperlink thumbnails inside 40-50 text boxes in a 215pp document with hyperlinks in the footnotes and tables and see what happens. It's a mess. I ended up having to put the master together with colored text and add the links in Acrobat itself. Every time the links move with changes to the master, it's go back into Acrobat and line the little windows up with the text. Very painful and easily subject to error. My guess is that Acrobat has a hard time with the successive "undo" data structure of Word.

Wow! Murkowski observer ‘Mike’ needs to be charged with criminal violations of election law.

This guy was caught red-handed, he needs to spill the beans of who his masters are and what they instructed him to do.

“I would have ripped the I-Phone from his hand, thrown it outside, told him to go get it, and locked the door. Why did they allow this to continue?”

Would have beaten the crap out of him, then called the feds to remove the bloody mess.

Disgusting. The whole idea of computer voting gives me the shakes.

And I do wish that people would start doing serious felony time for vote fraud.

Hey, whatever you like, you like.

I don’t have any Macs. Too pricey, and mostly closed to tinkering.

All my desktops at home are Frankensteins, made from off-the-shelf piece parts and from cannibalizing older boxes.

You can’t Frankenstein a Mac. If you install hardware or software that’s not blessed by Apple, and therefore about twice as expensive as comparable items at Wal-Mart and Staples, you void your warranty.

I’ve got 3 desktops running various Linux distros, and 3 running XP. One of the Linux boxes serves as my gateway, proxy server, mail server, and Network Attached Storage Multi-Media server. I have one Windows XP virtual machine, and about half-a-dozen Linux VMs of various distros. We have 4 laptops, all HP, one dual-boot Ubuntu/XP, one XP-only, and two with W7.

These boxes run for years on end without problems. I think in the last 15 years, I have experienced one disk crash, one CPU failure (was pretty old), one power supply failure (also old), and one LCD screen failure, for which I was reimbursed by the retail outlet.

In the last 15 years, my Windows boxes have been infected two times that I can remember. I was able to recover both times without reformat/reinstall using Safe Mode and looking for the culprit signatures in the registry.

I use as much OpenSource software as I can find to do what I want to do. No problems.

Can’t say I’ve ever missed not having a Mac.

The only reason I even suggested it was the other poster sounded like he was running some specialized stuff that, according to people that I know and respect, Mac excels at.

It is really sad to see this crap happening within the GOP. Are we no better than stinking Democrats?

Yeah I hope Miller’s lawyers can follow the evidence to the ringleaders and then to the DNC/RNC ruling class.

We need a Watergate type of scandal to wake people up for this Fall.

The report on Diebold referenced in the letter made me shiver because I had always suspected it but then to see it referenced in detail made me angry because hitherto it was all speculation that many would characterize as paranoia. Well it’s no longer paranoia. We are truly under attack in this country.

I'd rather see him run against Snowe, but hey, let's get him elected governor first. In this state I wouldn't be surprised if the democrats bused in folks from Madagascar to vote for Mitchell.

The dems have help on the inside. They have plants as county election office employees that are on their payroll; graft happens.

Another factoid uncovered about county election offices is that DNC operatives get help from unions, especially prison/jail employee union members. Let a few convicts out on parole with frequent supervision, put them in a mail room where absentee ballots are received and tell them to do precisely as they are told such as to stand aside when a ‘VIP’ enters the room to ‘inspect things’.

Certain convicts on parole are easy to control and election officials are easy to persuade of these temporary half-way work programs for ‘transitioning’ inmates back to the workforce.

And yes there is documented evidence that such transitioning programs have involved country election offices.

This is one of the reasons for the Tea Party. To get rid on the RINO’s and the good old boy network. We need to elect Conservatives. We have won a few but lost the McCain race.

I just got a “Breaking News” email from the local rag that the Libertarian Party says no way does Murkowski get on their ticket as her positions are not those of the LP.

I understand your feeling of breach of confidentiality. Calling and asking who you voted for is so very wrong. It is called a secret ballot for a reason.

I have to say, I’m not at all confident Miller has this in the bag. Murkowski only needs to win about 55% of the absentee ballots to win. What reason is there to believe that she doesn’t get 55%? She won about that same amount of the early voting, which occurred before Miller’s surge, and without the abortion ballot measure. I’m getting a bad sense that Murkowski will win in the end. I feel the odds are 65% that she does.

I agree with you, and though Alaska people talk like rebels on occasion, they are mostly very conventional in the end. They want that federal money too.
