I Think I See What Glenn Beck is Doing

The Glenn Beck rally is confusing people.

Why?

He is aiming far beyond what most people consider to be the goalposts.

Using Boyd’s continuum for war: Material, Intellectual, Moral.

Analogously for political change: Elections, Institutions, Culture.

Beck sees correctly that the Conservative movement had only limited success because it was good at level 1, for a while, weak on level 2, and barely touched level 3. Talk Radio and the Tea Party are level 3 phenomena, popular outbreaks, which are blowing back into politics.

Someone who asks what the rally has to do with the 2010 election is missing the point.

Beck is building solidarity and cultural confidence in America, its Constitution, its military heritage, its freedom. This is a vision that is despised by the people who have long held the commanding heights of the culture. But is obviously alive and kicking.

Beck is creating positive themes of unity and patriotism and freedom and independence which are above mere political or policy choices, but not irrelevant to them. Political and policy choices rest on a foundation of philosophy, culture, self-image, ideals, religion. Change the foundation, and the rest will flow from that. Defeat the enemy on that plane, and any merely tactical defeat will always be reversible.

Beck is unabashed that God can be invoked in public places by citizens, who vote and assemble and speak and freely exercise their religion. They are supposed to be too browbeaten to do this. Gathering hundreds of thousands of them to peaceably assemble shows they are not. But showing that the people who believe in God and practice their religion are fellow-citizens who share political and economic values with majorities of Americans is a critical step. The idea that these people are an American Taliban is laughable, but showing that fact to the world — and to potential political allies who are not religious — is critical.

Beck is attacking the enemy at the foundations of their power, their claim to race as a permanent trump card, their claim to the Civil Rights movement as a permanent model to constantly be transforming a perpetually unjust society.

I think it is high time that you told us who Pablo is and what makes him so wily.

He's a dude named Pablo and he is about one wily fellow.

I should think that would be obvious.

Beck sees himself as fulfilling Joseph Smiths “White Horse” prophecy and saving the constitution

This is an astute article and I believe it is spot on.

**********

Agreed. From the article:

“Beck sees correctly that the Conservative movement had only limited success because it was good at level 1, for a while, weak on level 2, and barely touched level 3. Talk Radio and the Tea Party are level 3 phenomena, popular outbreaks, which are blowing back into politics.”

This is where we must win our culture war. Abortion, family law, immigration and medical polices etc. need to be won in the court of public opinion. This is why the left is apoplectic. They are finally being challenged on their world view, and view of man.

Post WWII liberalism is not merely dead, it is in advanced decay. Liberty is going to prevail over statism.

Beck realizes the problem is much more than just ridding ourselves
of communist representatives, senators, and the president;
we must change the hearts and minds of the people who put them there.

Well said.

All well and truly stated ... not to mention, having 700,000 of your fellow conservative Americans stand up and defy political correctness run amok tends to encourage you to do likewise. THAT is possibly the greatest benefit from Glenn Beck's Faith, Hope, and Charity Rally.

The race hustlers can no longer cower we the people with the fake race card, since Alveda has shown it is a sham.

Leftist progressives can no longer tell we the people that they may not worship God openly, because 8/28 proved we the people cvan do it!

Leftist societal engineers can no longer tell we the people that there can be no mingling of religious belief and political empowerment, while deopending upon doing just that to manipuyalte black people in their churches because we the people have these unalienable rights that God grants, not leftist societal engineering pukes like infest the Democrat Party and the elit of the Republican party.

Great analysis. I just wrote a piece yesterday along the same lines called What was Glenn Beck's 'Restoring Honor' rally really about? (Maybe not what you think)

I need to do a rewrite based on some of the responses but some got through it (a little too mathy up front, apparently)

But I think a corner has been turned. I think we’re in the middle of another Great Awakening and the forces of darkness are going to go nuts now.

********************

I think we are heading there. In truth, all of this seems like a testing. If we falter, if we draw back, we will be for the crucible. We may be anyway, but for those of us who stand strong there will be a ‘passover’, IMO.

It is still ours to lose, but as was said during the revolution:

RESISTANCE TO TYRANNY IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD

We have not yet begun to fight.

I’ve never seen the so called ‘Civil Rights Movement’ ever put back on its heels like Glen Beck just did.
I agree and it is "so called" because it did little more than unleash the greatest crime wave this country has ever seen.
And despite my disgust for 0bama, I thought that at the least he could bring "black america" back to civility. Boy, was I wrong.

If Beck had been asking folks to adopt his religion or religious views on Saturday, that would be a powerful question.

What Beck did on Saturday was ask people to reconnect with God. As such, it’s up to them to develop their own position on homosexual marriage in line with the church they reconnect with.

I may be wrong, but my take on it is that most people there on Saturday are better grounded than Beck on this issue, if he really is that lame on this matter.

I don’t perceive Glenn to be a “calculated” individual. I think he does what comes from the heart.. And America is desperate for it; God, Freedom, Our Forefathers and their great legacy.. That America is GREAT. It’s really quite simple.

To clarify.. There is simplicity in THE TRUTH. The LIES of the left require calculation yet always results in chaos and confusion. America wants THE TRUTH, and Glenn Beck stands for the truth!

“Wily” is a just a relative term.
I probably wouldn’t find him to be as wily as you do.
But then, being quite wily my own self, that’s just how I roll.

Salvation, I believe most of us here agree strongly with you on the marriage issue. The article doesn't disagree with your statement, and I don't believe that Glenn Beck disagrees with your statement.

I believe the author was trying to explain that Beck is working toward and advocating cultural unity on a broader scale, and at a higher conceptual level.

Political and policy choices rest on a foundation of philosophy, culture, self-image, ideals, religion. Change the foundation, and the rest will flow from that.
What we have seen with the left's highly successful application of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, against individuals and single issues, is very important to note here: The Tea Party movement has been successful against the Alinsky Method precisely there is no single leader or group of leaders to be "isolated". The leftist media has tried desperately to declare such a "leader" so they could proceed with their process of destruction.

We see their attempts at this daily against Beck, Palin, Fox News, and similarly against any particular "single issue" that might be brought to the battlefield of ideas.

Whenever such an individual "leader apparent" or "issue apparent" is pushed to the forefront, the process immediately begins, coast to coast, and every communist in the country attacks in unison, using identical talking points and levels of viciousness, to Isolate, Freeze, Polarize, and Destroy. Any single issue, or any single leader or spokesperson, cannot survive, and we have seen this proven over and over.

If we wish to defeat this communist onslaught, and we must if the nation is to survive, we must be unified at a higher, conceptual level. We cannot be totally dependent on any one particular leader, and we cannot venture onto the field of battle with our "single issue" weapon.
