Norman Podhoretz has offered us an elegant, condensed political history of the Jews. He recounts how beleaguered Jews have repeatedly looked in two places for solace: to the heavens and to the government. As religiosity waned, government was viewed as the sole power capable of restraining the savagery of localized violence. Since nature abhors a spiritual vacuum, Podhoretz concludes that the religion of liberalism—that is, faith in the powers of government—has replaced Judaism in the hearts of Jews. The lesson of Rabbi Chanina in Pirkei Avot became the dominant political motif: “If not for the government, people would eat each other alive.”
Why, asks Podhoretz, do Jews cling to this belief if it no longer serves our interest? One possibility is that convictions linger as evolutionary adaptations do, past their usefulness. Evolution and history combine to upend us: Jews still eat rich foods and still vote liberal. But there is another possible understanding of why Jews cleave to their political faith: it may be a product of kinship stronger than any ideology. It may not be about whom we vote for but whom we vote with.

As a Jew, I've wondered that many times myself. In 1964, at age 16, I mortified my mother when I walked out Temple during Yom Kippur services, when the rabbi ( reformed) devoted his High Holy Day sermon as to why Jews should NOT vote for Barry Goldwater..
Some of the authors reference WW II, and how FDR lead this country to defeat the Nazis. Yet it's hardly ever mentioned that the same FDR marched thousand of Japanese-Americans off to camps, and more importantly, he probably condemend several hundred thousand Jews to death when he refused to allow entry into the US before the war.
The war in Europe also raised many unanswered questions. Everyone knew that millions were disappearing into the camps, yet the Jews continued to march docily onto the trains. If they had charged the guards en masse, killed thousands of them, it might have been different. Yet at the same time, the story fo the Warsaw ghetto uprising is magnificent..incredible heroism in the face of overwhelmng odds..go figure..

because most of them live in the two freest societies on earth. The Jews in Pakistan...Afghanistan, Iran....probably aren’t so ignorant.

Christians stand up for Jews/Israel way more than liberals do.
Republicans are in fact THE big tent party.
Besides the fact that a majority may be Christians, there are also black conservatives, Jews, hispanics, many many women, many seniors, and even some gays.
Democrats only care about communism, fascism, dictatorship, government control and power. Everything else does not even register anymore.

IMHO I think Jews and Christians actually have a lot in common because these are two groups that are constantly being trivialized, ridiculed and demonized.
Jews and Christians should be fighting side by side against the commie fascist liberals.

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve. But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” This established the Judeo/Christian libertarian tradition.
A couple generations later the people clamored for a King. Samuel said they would rue the day they asked for a King. That dichotomy continues to this day.
But Chrisitians have the concept of personal salvation, that the individual accepts Christ as Savior rather than it being a group act. That creates more of a sense of individual responsibility in all things compared to a collective responsibility.
Then creeps in the heresies, most common of which is the heresy started by the first genocidal murderer, who established the theology that I am my brother’s keeper.

All I can say is that most of the Jews I know personally are mind numbed robots as regards voting Democrat. Some of them are so bad, they’d be extolling Obama’s virtues while his BrownShirts loaded them into a cattle car.

They do, but too many Jews associate evangelical christianity with nazism. It’s completely illogical, but they do it nonetheless.
