Had the Republicans taken control of Congress in 2008, the country would have sunk into a depression, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), told CNBC Thursday.
If we had not won re-election and intervened, we would be in a depression, said Pelosi.
She cited tax cuts for the wealthy, two wars and a prescription drug bill that gave away the store to the pharmaceutical industry, under George W. Bush, as partially to blame for the current state of the economy.

The picture on the left was not photoshopped. She was “jokingly” suggesting that her troops had better fall into line.

She might be right. We might have been in a depression by now...or to be more correct, we would be ADMITTING that we are in a depression. This current “summer of recovery” is just a house of cards built on credit and government fiat currency. The sooner we admit that we are in trouble and start sacrificing from DC and Wall St down, the sooner we can start a true recovery that includes using our domestic energy and manufacturing our own products again so the people can work and have the money to make the economy move again.

In a sense, she is correct: if the GOP had won in 2008, whatever the current state of the economy, the media would be loudly describing it as a "Depression". Why, there'd be special reports about soup kitchens, unemployment lines down every block and sad-faced little tykes shown on MSNBC 24/7/365 with the blame placed squarely on those evil, heartless Republicans - even if we had 6% GDP growth and 5% unemployment.

There is a certain amount of truth to that headline. If the GOP had somehow magically won anything in 2008, the press would be in high dudgeon about the Depression we’re in, whether the economic facts support that conclusion or not.
This is a red-letter day! Pelosi said something that veers close to the truth, although not exactly the way she intended.

RE :”

If McCain had won he'd be folding to most of your (Pelosi) demands sending Grahamnesty to negotiate with you, on top of suggesting his own progressive policies, and Republicans would be getting the blame for everything bad instead of you. You cant survive without GWB.
We are NOW in a depression if you factor in the national debt with unemployment.

One of my standard responses to libs:
Constitutionally, where does financial (budget) legislation originate? (Ans: The House)
What is the UE rate today (Ans: 9.6%)
What was the UE rate in 2008? (Ans; 4.5%)
What happened to the House in 2008?

I am SICK TO DEATH over this big lie. The economy was doing JUST FINE under George Bush until December of 2007.. TEN MONTHS AFTER DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER CONGRESS and began spending like there was no tomorrow, and blaming it on Bush. IMHO, they sabotaged the economy ON PURPOSE to blame it on Bush and get a Democrat elected.
