THE FACTS Nothing but time can cure the common cold, but a simple cup of salt water might ease the misery this winter.

A sore, itchy throat and respiratory congestion are some of the more common symptoms of a cold, and gargling with salt water seems to help for several reasons. A saline solution can draw excess fluid from inflamed tissues in the throat, making them hurt less, said Dr. Philip T. Hagen, editor in chief of the

“‘Ye are the salt of the earth’

Back in the day we gargled with earth, we couldn’t afford salt.”

And....we LIKED it!

Try sticking the brush in a clean jar half filled with water...and microwaving for a couple minutes..

I’m thinking an early flu shot this year...might be the smart thing, esp if you travel alot...

No question these bugs are transfered through hand contact...

Wash your hands....short of Howard Hughes...

Yes, I think I’ll pass on the chlorine gas and stick with the saline solution!

I may have to use it tonight, I was at the track today and there was a lot of red clay dust in the air from all the infield traffic. It might be a smart thing to clear that out.

So this is medicine under Obamacare.

Well, NOT totally. When liberals realize SALT can be used as medicine, they'll tax it, control it, and let lawyers sue doctors over prescribing too much of it...

I put salt water up my nose and swish it around up there. [Don’t make the salt level too strong the first time you try it!]

I use that, but it’s not homemade. I forget the brand, it’s got a sort of bellows on one side, and that pumps the solution up to where it can do the most good. Either way (commercial or homemade) one big benefit is to wash out the dust and allergens.

Honey mixed with chili powder for sore throat.”

And a little paregoric. Worked in the 60’s:-)

So long as the exit is funneled, gravity gets the saltwater into the sinuses. You can use liberal amounts if it’s home made, and you can also make sure that it’s sea salt. Only drawback, a low level of salt and no preservatives means that the salt water will spoil over time. It’s a good idea to rotate two dispensers, one being sanitized by the sun. It’s also helpful if the dispensers are clear to help see spoilage.
