Boehner: 'No Compromise' on Stopping Obamacare

WASHINGTON – If US President Barack Obama's Republican foes win next week's elections, they will spare no effort to beat back his signature health care overhaul, the party's leader in the House said Wednesday.

"This is not a time for compromise, and I can tell you that we will not compromise on our principles," Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner said in an interview with a conservative radio host.

Boehner, who would all-but certainly replace Democrat Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House of Representatives if Republicans retake the chamber in the November 2 vote, vowed an all-out war on the health overhaul.

"We're going to do everything -- and I mean everything we can do -- to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can," Boehner said in remarks reported by The Hill newspaper and confirmed by the Republican leader's office.

We’ll be watching, Boehner. Count on it.

Maybe he was just pandering to that particular host, but his language is getting more combative. However, he has to promise to shut down an entire agency or two to get my juices flowing. And to go to the mat.

He sounds like us! Perhaps he has been listening.

I agree, it is getting more combative. I like it.

I don’t mind the tone, but I wish every time he talked about rolling back Obamacare he also talked about the many solid GOP proposals for improving the situation.

I heard him on Hannity yesterday. If he does what he says, this could be a great thing for the country.

We must get the statist republicans out of our party. No compromise on the constitution.

The GOP is getting the message- finally. But there will be those we still need to vote out of office.

He's not hinting, he's saying it out loud. All his credibility is on the line.

Remember, Christie barely even hinted at his approach, and is now more popular than ever. I dont think Boehner has an "out" here. He's got to play hardball.

Yeah, and talk is cheap. I've seen this dog and pony show before many times. I will reserve judgment until I actually see them do what is necessary to stop the Obamalamadingdong health control boondoggle and enact meaningful tort reform, allow sale of medical insurance across state lines and encourage competition. IOW, get the Federal gubmint out of health care entirely. The gubmint is a hindrance, not an asset.

Boehner is a conservative but he’s been there long enough to have demonstrated his leadership skills. Will John be as relentless in pursuing his agenda as Pelosi was? I fear he will not be as intellectually adept or as articulate as needed.

Only one guy faced down the ONE: Paul Ryan got “the finger”. He should now get the gavel.

Like what? There was already 85 % + coverage before and most of the people not covered chose not ot be. IMO, it would be up to the states to cover those falling in the cracks (and I dont mean 25 year old college students).

First thing; you dont throw out the baby with the bath water. We need to shuck this beauracratic monstrosity.

Obamacare. A one page bill. “Obamacare is hereby repealed.”

Spending. Limit spending to 2008 levels. Then start cutting.

Illegal Immigration. Finish the fence. Give finishing it priority over all previous laws, including Environmental Protection Act. Reduce the salaries of all TSA officials by 75% until the fence is finished. Give them a bonus when it is.

EPA’s ability to do cap and trade. Take away EPA jurisdiction over CO2

Energy self sufficiency. Drill baby drill. Dig coal. Build nukes.

Stimulus and TARP. One page bill. Repeal it and force all unspent money to be used to pay down the national debt.

Tax Increases. Extend the bush tax relief.

Supreme Court. Filibuster all Obama nominees, unless they are provable moderates.

Five of the eight are simple one page bills. They may not pass the senate, but they will be hard to amend by squishes because they are only one page long. They will also be difficult for the old media to misrepresent. Anyone can read them. They contrast nicely with the 1900 page monstrosities the rats have been passing.

We should at least make the senate vote on them. If half pass, we will make Obama veto them and damage him for 2012.

The next two years will show little real progress. Our majority in the Senate will be too thin (if one there is) to accomplish much. Our strategic goals should be: (1) Stop further progressive damage; (2) Force rats in the Senate and Obama to take positions that will damage them in 2012. In other words, a stop sign and clarification.

I don’t believe him. I wish someone else would be Speaker but I guess the elites have spoken.

It is going to take several cycles for Republicans to get the message. I don’t think we are there yet.

“We need to shuck this beauracratic monstrosity.”

Could not agree more.

“Like what?”

How about HSAs, tort reform, and selling insurance across state lines for starters?

I'll go along with that. I thought you meant enlarging "coverage". I personally would not go down that endless line of handout "reform".
