RALEIGH, N.C. — Riding a nationwide wave of voter discontent, state Republican leaders said Tuesday that the party had seized control of the state General Assembly for the first time in more than a century. Many races remained too close to call late Tuesday, but GOP Chairman Tom Fetzer predicted that Republicans would pick up 14 to 16 House seats and 10 Senate seats. That would give the party 66 to 68 seats in the 120-member House and 30 seats in the 50-member Senate. The GOP last had a majority in the state Senate in 1898. They controlled the state House as recently as 12 years ago. Control of the General Assembly during the 2011 session not only means setting the agenda for the state budget and other legislation, it also means controlling the process for redrawing legislative districts, which could influence elections for the next decade. "Voters know the state is headed on the wrong path, and they have asked up to right that path," Senate Minority Leader Phil Berger told a cheering crowd at the Raleigh Marriott City Center, where the party was staging a "Victory Party."

North Carolina is an interesting place. As a rule the people are culturally conservative, but there is a strong Yellow-Dog Democrat streak. As a consequence, there are a few relatively conservative (i.e. pro-death penalty, anti-abortion) Democrats in NC.
However, the whole Democrat machine in NC has become so corrupt (former NC house speaker is in jail, former Gov & First Lady have ethics charges against them, etc.), that I think the people are finally starting to wake up.
Damn straight - good way to undermine the leaches and tyrants they enable.

Diverse, that’s what it is. Every different kind of human being on the planet from the super educated to the moonshine runnin’, family feudin’ type. Quite a few of them descended from people who moved from their southern neighbor sixty or more years ago to find employment. I grew up just across the state line in South Carolina within ten miles of North Carolina. In the community where I grew up there used to be heard the comment that if you couldn’t find someone in the community any longer just go to Kannapolis, NC and check the Cannon Mill village, they’ll be there.
Nah. First, DOJ will never allow the redistricting to eliminate a majority black district (I assume it is to keep electing Mel Watt?). Second, just keep the district for Mel, but pack it with as many Dems as they can, pulling in Libs from other districts, making the other districts more conservative! Win-Win!!
I say make NC-12 look worse...attach it to Durham/Chapel Hill so Price/Watt/Miller fight amongst themselves.

As for myself, I believe we need millions of people marching and protesting peacefully in the streets. Just like in Greece (and other European countries).
