Election of black conservatives signals 'awakening'

With South Carolina's victory of the first 'Deep South' black Republican to Congress since Reconstruction, one conservative thinks it's evident that the tea party is not racist.

Ron Miller, a conservative author, columnist, veteran and tea party member, says Tim Scott's election to Congress is "an impressive victory."

"I think it's a great testimony to Americans' ability to evaluate people by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin..."

----snip.

In winning the election, Scott beat out....the son of late Senator Strom Thurmond and the son of former South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell.

----snip

"...they've demonstrated their ability, not just with Tim Scott's election, but with Nikki Haley's election as the first female and Indian-American governor of that state, that they're perfectly capable of voting based on the issues..."

----snip

Allen West, a retired Army officer and an Iraq War veteran, won his race for the House and will be representing Florida's 22nd District.

----snip

"I think that [the elections of] Allen West and Tim Scott are the beginning of an awakening...

---snip

"But I believe that that awakening is now starting to happen in the black precincts across this country, and I think we're going to see a shift away from the Democrat [sic] Party, which has ill-served the black community for decades now."

While the nation made history two years ago by electing Barack Obama as the first black president, Jackson believes much of that support was misguided.

I think we were making history for the wrong reasons because we were electing someone [largely] based on emotion, based on wanting to try to move the country forward racially -- as opposed to based on the principles of the man...

----snip

"I think that the black community is just tired of that [message]...

In time minorities who don’t already know and who are not racists/tribalists will catch on to the Left’s race hate political game. We need to teach new comers about freedom and wealth creation and the failures of socialsm/fascism/marxism in every venue we can.

It starts to break down a reliable voting block for the DemonRats. Just as Sara! helped bring more women over. Blacks need to get the conservative message—so, whatever it takes is good for the country.

Gary Franks was the member from CT. Black Dem Congressman Bill Clay, Sr. blasted him as a “foot shufflin’, head scratchin’, Amos n’Andy Negro.” That’s the kind of treatment Black Republicans get for leaving the plantation.

When I was in the Philippines, I was quite surprised to see their elementary schools teaching about some great self-made men in American History. Among them ... George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and .... ( I was quite surprised to see this man’s name )... Booker T. Washington!

Do our schools ever teach the story of Booker T. Washington anymore? Just wonder...

Interesting question. There were many blacks who became successful througout our American history, and who were accomplished in their professions or the military. It seems, however, all today's students learn about are the ones who were/are connected with the civil rights movement. And, even among those, it seems the ones revered and imitated the most are the antagonists, rather than the peacemakers, or those who possessed admirable traits and could serve as true heroes or examples.

MLK seems to be the only one who has been held up with esteem who was not so much of an angry, bitter reactionary as he was more of an idealist and uniter. I think he truly cared about his people, more than he cared about fame and becoming rich by playing the "race" card. I don't feel he ued the people of the black race in an attempt to just gain power and control over them. I would have loved to have had a discussion with him. I think of him as an honorable man who struggled to fix things right and lead by a good example.
