The count of the AK Senate Race Absentee Ballots takes place today. Currently, the total Write-in votes exceed Joe Miller's total vote count by 13,500 votes. There are 31,000 Absentee Ballots to be counted today. Absentee Ballots, which contain many military votes, normally go heavily Republican. Lisa Murkowski's name was not on the Absentee Ballot and the people who vote Absentee very seldom do the "Write-in" thing. If they do, it, many times, is not done correctly. So.......
If Joe Miller's lead, after the count of the Absentee Ballots, exceeds the 81,000 Write-in Ballots, which did not all go for Lisa anyway, turn out the lights; the party's over.
I agree with you too, and I appreciate your caution that I not get carried away.
As you say, it is possible that Murkowski will get some of those absentee ballots.
Forgot one more point: Miller is a veteran of our recent wars, and very many of the absentee ballots are military.
They’ve commenced counting the absentees and early votes, and so far Miller has gotten 318 more votes than were cast for write-ins. http://community.adn.com/adn/node/154230 Not counting the early votes for which the link does not give the raw totals (only that there were 48 more write-ins than Miller votes), Miller got 1,235 votes to 869 votes cast for write-ins. So the number of write-in votes is substantial, albeit less than what Miller has gotten.
Your numbers look right. Send them to Joe Miller and Breitbart...

And yet they want to exclude any write ins that have Joe Miller's name on them. They can't have it both ways, but they will try.
It's the Liberal Way

they’ve counted about 9000 absenties and Miller has closed the gap to about 12,500.
There are still about 30,000 absenties, which should close the gap to less than 10,000.
Of the 85,000 write-ins, Lisa M. will need to win about 80,000, which is highly unlikely. keep in mind that some of the write-ins will be for Joe Miller.

When the counting of the write-in ballots begins, election workers will open the sealed envelopes containing a precinct's ballots and begin sorting the ballots into five box lids.
There are five categories in the initial sort:
1. The confused votes: Ballots on which a candidate whose name is printed on the ballot has been written in.
2. The extremely confused votes: Ballots on which more than one oval is marked or a name is written in but no oval is marked.
3. The inarguable votes: Ballots on which the oval is marked for a write-in and "Lisa Murkowski" or "Murkowski" is written in exactly.
4. The votes to watch: Ballots on which the oval is marked for a write-in but the name written is a variation or misspelling of "Lisa Murkowski" or "Murkowski."
5. The "Spider-Man" votes: Ballots on which the name written in is not "Lisa Murkowski" or a variation thereof.
Once that initial sort has been completed, the election officials will take the ballots in box lid #4 (remember, that's the important one) and sort those into four sub-categories:
a. Ballots that are determined by the election workers to be for Murkowski that are not challenged by either of the camp's observers.
b. Ballots that are determined to be for Murkowski that are challenged (presumably by a Miller observer). These ballots will be segregated and placed in an envelope labeled "Challenged Counted for Murkowski."
c. Ballots that are determined not to count for Murkowski that are challenged (presumably by a Murkowski observer). These ballots will be segregated and placed in an envelope labeled "Challenged NOT Counted for Murkowski."
d. Ballots determined not to count for Murkowski that are not challenged. These ballots will be placed back in box lid #5.
The instructions released by the Divison of Elections (PDF) read, "Each ballot in box lid #4 will be reviewed to determine voter intent." All ballots will be reviewed by elections director Gail Fenumiai, according to Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell.
There will be a good number of write-ins with personal selections: self, relative, friend,
There will be those with some other politician, whether it be democrat or republican or independent, written in.
There will be some with Miller
Some with Murkowski
And some that are indecipherable or incoherent
At this point, we know that Murkowski has to get at least 67,500 of them to even be in the running.
Write-ins to Miller will be thrown out, so they will not help Miller directly, but they won’t be counted for Murkowski of course.
another article I read said that write-ins to Joe Miller would count.
My guess is that even Murkowski must support this if they want to have any success pushing their “voter intent” scheme instead of the letter of the Alaska law that says the write-in name must be spelled exactly correct and filled out correctly.
I’m feeling a lot better already.
Miller said on Hannity yesterday that they have backed off that stance and will count Scott Miller write ins

Vote for ‘Elmer Fudd’
Counter: “Well, Elmer Fudd was white, and Murcowski is white...a vote for Murcowski!”
Vote for ‘Bugs Bunny’
Counter: “A tough one! However, Murcowski has shown a preference for rabbit stew...a vote for Murcowski!”
Vote for ‘Lisa Miller’
Counter: “Clearly a vote for Murcowski!”
Miller did not file as a write-in candidate, which is required in Alaska. In Alaska, you cannot just write in any name and have it count. You can only write in the name of a valid write-in candidate that has filed as such.
The Lt. Gov. of Alaska was on Mark Levin’s radio show yesterday and he said that if Miller’s name is written in, that vote will count towards Miller.
(AP) Write-in votes for Joe Miller in the Alaska Senate race won’t count toward the GOP nominee’s tally.
So says Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell.
Campbell, who oversees elections, tells The Associated Press that because Miller’s name isn’t on the official list of write-in candidates, any ballots with “Joe Miller” written in won’t be credited to the tea party favorite.
