Yet another rant against the "globalists."

You must be unaware that trade was always global. About 13% of capital in the U.S. is British -- those evil British capitalists outsource jobs to the U.S. You must have also heard about evil Japanese capitalists that outsource jobs to the American car-manufacturing plants. American companies have been doing the same for over a century.

The situation is quite simple, really. When you see an import that is better than its American-made equivalent, you buy it. Labor is a product purchased by employers. If we want to be purchased (employed) we have to be better than foreigners. When we were, outsourcing was small; and conversely.

You mean other than chronic double digit unemployment and no real economic growth?

There’s also the pesky taxes and regulations on American businesses....that makes employing in other countries WITHOUT those taxes and regulations profitable...

every US president does the same thing.
they want foreign-policy-convienence,
so they trade away US jobs.

do you think our ‘’’allies’’’
want to be in A’stan?

of course not.
they are paid off, with one-way trade deals

Many on the left want to tax and regulate everything. Unfortunately, there are also those on the right who want to tax and regulate everything.

so where are the high tech, high paying jobs for all the retrained workers?

Sorry, easier to import H1-B types.

This has nothing to do with manufacturing. MBA’s aren’t going to suddenly decide to make toys and gizmos.

Surely they could find something constructive to do with their life. The internet has opened up a lot of opportunities. If these MBAs are really businessmen and not just paper pushers, they won’t have to starve.

And why were they doing (some of) the things you allege? Is it not because the labor you mentioned has failed to stay competitive?

It's because those workers aren't willing to accept the total absence of benefits and Third-World wages just to have a CHANCE at being competitive.

"the pesky taxes and regulations on American businesses....that makes employing in other countries WITHOUT those taxes and regulations profitable..."

Exactly. By voting for politicians, both Republican and Democrat, who increase regulation and taxation, we make ourselves less competitive. Now we have experienced a huge drop in competitiveness by promulgating health-care reform and Fin Reg. And they still wonder why businesses are not hiring?

"It's because those workers aren't willing to accept the total absence of benefits and Third-World wages just to have a CHANCE at being competitive. "

Well, that just illustrates my point: how can you be competitive if you don't even know that competitiveness is not the same thing at all as accepting third-world wages?

Suppose you make 10 gadgets per hour and get paid $10. A Chinese worker make 2 gadgets per hour and get paid $1.90 By how much should you salary drop for you to be as desirable as the Chinese worker. The cost of a single gadget you produce is $1 vs. $0.95 when made by the Chinese. You salary should drop only 5% --- from $10 to $9.50 --- for you to be competitive. These $9.50 are far above $1.90 that the Chinese worker makes. You don't have to accept the Chinese wages at all.

Please reflect on this. Perhaps that will make you refrain from repeating the leftist propaganda about "accepting third-world wages" which evil corporations supposedly want you to do.

"You mean other than chronic double digit unemployment and no real economic growth?"

Well, perhaps it's high time you learn that unemployment has nothing to do with whether we are in a recession or not.

The remark about no "real" economic growth sound like a cruel joke: it reflects more on your unreasoned expectations rather than betrays any knowledge of the subject.

"Meanwhile, China, India, Indonesia and other countries thrive."

In many ways they are more capitalist than we are.

Until the labor union thugocracy releases its stranglehold here, downsizing and outsourcing are the only alternatives that a business has to remain profitable. The Democrats enable corrupt monopolistic schemes like the UAW, UMW and similar anti-capitalist outfits.

Rebellion is brewing! When true Constitutional Conservatives gain power, we can make sure every state embraces liberty with Right to Work! When that happens, just watch our proud country thrive like never before. I've busted a union before and saw how much better the business ran and prospered.

Your problem is the Chinese worker seems to be making 17 gadgets an hour at that wage.

That would make sense if wasn't for even minimal benefits alone for the USA worker jacking up the price to $3 or more per gadget while Chinese subsidizing reduced the effect of the Chinese labor to 25-cents an hour. The Chinese are playing to win at any cost. It's why currently Chinese steel is cheaper, though in the USA for every man-hour required to produce each ton of steel it takes 10 in China.
