FCC may regulate Internet lines days before Christmas

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a Christmas gift in store for the phone and cable industry: it may move ahead on its controversial net-neutrality regulations three days before Christmas.

An FCC source confirmed on Friday that the commission plans to push its December meeting back by a week, meaning it will fall on the 22nd of the month. That's the same meeting in which analysts say the agency may move forward on its controversial net-neutrality proposal.

What do we do? That's easy. Contact our house reps and tell them to defund the FCC as long as they press this issue.

Another thing we used in the early 1990's was Fidonet, they were a chain of BBS'es, like an electronic pony express. You call a BBS that was at the end of a node and at certain times, usually in the wee hours of the morning (National Mail Hour), they would call the next BBS down that line and so on. Then eventually it would end up at your regional hub, then a bigger regional hub, then the national hub(s) and they would all relay across the world.

We could use this again, we might be limited to 300/1200/2400/9600 and up to 56k baud and no graphics, but in pre internet days, if you selected the right groups, you can communicate easily with others. The downside, if we have to go back to that, most programs are DOS based but I would go back to my old 486SX/25 if I had to.

I remember listening in the early ‘90’s to shortwave also. For several years I chose not to have a television, so radio was my main source for news, talk shows, etc.

There were lots of patriot programs buzzing then. Some probably still around. Unfortunately, I’m now just a few miles outside a large city and can never get anything clear on my shortwave. Ended up selling it.

Have you heard of other people having that problem near a major city?

Cities can be a problem with a lot of radio interference, RFI, if you will. But still, you should be able to get most major broadcasters. Some have left the air and decided to go internet only, thus cutting down on the number of broadcasters but there are still a good number left. I think this is a big mistake because at least you can still reach people in an easy way, all you need is a radio. One major broadcaster of patriot radio is WWCR, World Wide Christian Radio, you should be able to receive that one.

I may try again at some point. Yes, I remember WWCR—a great station.

A few years ago I even ordered a small shortwave radio which carried good Christian teaching directly from a ministry’s channels, 24 hours a day. Had the same problem, nothing clear. I was so disappointed.

Posting of “copyrighted material” will be grounds for shutting down websites. So if DU’ers come over here and plant “copyrighted material” and then run and file a case against FR with the FCC, we get shut down (or are forced to defend against said charges, all in the name of protecting intellectual property.

Yes, the FCC but all these totalitarian efforts should be framed first with the culprits real name: i.e. Obama (Soros) Gov. . .wanting to control the net; disable your cell phone, while in car. . .appeae and facilitate Assange; shut down American Oil; control/limit your food. . .et al ad nauseum.
