Media Lies About Sarah Palin Korea Comments (Global Hit on Palin)
Thursday, November 25, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/25/2010 8:41:56 AM PST by kristinn

A hit piece by a liberal blogger about a slip of the tongue by Sarah Palin regarding the crisis on the Korean peninsula has become an international news story that is being spun to impugn Palin's credibility as a potential presidential candidate.

Palin has been dishonestly quoted out of context in dozens of articles and broadcast reports as saying on the Glenn Beck radio show on Wednesday, "We gotta stand with our North Korean allies."

Here, in context, is what Palin actually said (transcription by Kristinn):

Glen Beck: "Sarah you said, you said in the last few days that you are considering a run for president. And uh, polls show that you would probably win the Republican nomination. How would you handle a situation like just developed in, in North Korea?"

Palin: "Well, North Korea, this is stemming from I think a greater problem when we're all sittin' around asking, "Oh no, what are we gonna do?" and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is gonna come out with a strong enough policy to, um, sanction what it is that North Korea is gonna do. So this speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms our national security policies. But obviously, gotta stand with our North Korean allies. We're bound to by, by treaty."

Beck: "South Korea."

Palin: "We're also bound by, yeah, we're also bound by prudence to stand with our, our South Korean allies. Yes. And, uh, you know to remind North Korea, well, we're not gonna reward bad behavior and we're not gonna walk away. And we do need to press China to do more to increase the pressure on North Korea."

The smear started with liberal blogger Oliver Willis who posted an entry with the title, AUDIO: Sarah Palin: "We Gotta Stand With Our North Korean Allies. The blog post did not transcribe Palin's interview with Beck, it just had a snarky comment, "Genius. Absolute genius. When Glenn Beck is correcting you on foreign policy, well… genius."

Willis included the audio clip in his post which this transcription is based on. As can be seen, it was a simple slip of the tongue. But, because of how Willis disingenuously framed it, the slip has become "truth" to once again be used to smear Palin as ignorant of foreign affairs.

The hit piece was picked up by Mediaite, a site founded by former MSNBCer Dan Abrams, which titled their hit piece, Sarah Palin - North Korean Allies.

Mediaite also posted the audio clip. But even with the evidence that the comment was clearly a slip of the tongue, Mediaite smeared Palin as ignorant by quoting her out of context rather than publishing the entire exchange with Beck.

For good measure, Mediaite brought back a previous smear of Palin that claimed in 2008 when she was selected to be John McCain's running mate she did not know Korea was divided between North and South.

The Weekly Standard came to Palin's defense last night with a piece that chided her critics for the smear.

That did not stop the smear from going global, however. A Google News search shows nearly one hundred articles accusing Palin of not knowing that South Korea is our ally.

Wire services, broadcast networks and newspapers across America and the globe have gleefully picked up the smear.

The BBC piled on today with an article that said, "Her slip of the tongue over North Korea will provide more ammunition for critics who say she doesn't have sufficient knowledge or experience for high office."

The Times of India headlined their article, Sarah Palin's Latest Verbal Gaffe - North Korea an Ally.

It is a testament to Palin's global reach and influence that such a simple slip would garner worldwide headlines and be used by her enemies here and abroad to smear her.

However, the truth must be told and the media once more shamed for their duplicitious reporting.

Spot on, FRiend.

I’m a big Palin supporter, but she needs some brushing up.

Too bad the 10,000 people killed by a tornado in the city of Greensburg, Kansas (population 1574) won’t be able to read the refudiation. There weren’t enough corpsemen in the whole state to deal with a tragedy of that magnitude.

ON the other hand, don’t we continually bring up his “57 states” quote and his “muslim faith” quote, even though we know they were both gaffes?

Different kind of gaffe as I see it, I've been given to understand that there are 57 states. Muslim states. And that ties into the belief that he is muslim

More evidence that the MSN is has above all things, a single political party strategy. Fascism was born from this idea and in today media it thrives.

It could not matter that ALL of 0bama’s records are hidden, any stupid thing he says (57 states, My Muslim faith, etc) are totally ignored - but when the leading Conservative figure makes a misstatement that she immediately revises they descend upon her like moths drawn to the white flame to impugn her with their utmost in insult.

And lets also NOT overlook the constant amount of completely stupid comments made by the Vice President and how the MSN continues to ignore ANY of that.

There is zero equity when to comes to such how the Press approaches misstatements.

“The real issue is (or should be) that her response to a very specific question on an issue of global importance was sophomoric smoke and lacking any substance that would indicate a grasp of the long on-going situation.
“Stand by our allies” just doesn’t cut it...not from somebody who says she could beat the incumbant.”

I read the transcript. It doesn’t seem to make much sense even without the slip.

“we do need to press China to do more to increase pressure on that arena. “

huh? If we can’t pressure NK directly then how will be able to pressure China to put pressure on them?

Oh shut up. You never had a slip of the tongue? Especially when both North and South Korea were being discussed. Earth to ari-freedom, she does not hold any office. She hasn't declared that she is seeking any office.

This is the kind of mistake that everyone makes and the polite thing to do is ignore it. Obama may have been thinking about the 57 Muslim states, but I'm positive he knows there are 50 U.S. states. I'll bet even you know that. While Obama’s Freudian slip about his “Muslim faith”, was hilarious, I know that he meant to lie (any real Christian can see he is no Christian) and say “Christian faith”.

Now Obama’s Austrian language statement was just sheer
ignorance, but I can understand how someone could make that mistake. I'm sure the press would understand how a hick like George W. Bush could make such a mistake (sarc), but the brilliant, Harvard Law Review genius not knowing they don't speak Austrian in Austria? How can this be? I mean if you just look at his grades and read his dissertations and other college papers you would realize ....... wait .... you can't do that can you. They are a big secret for some reason. Well, we can take his teleprompters word for it.

Well, this is going to resonate badly throughout the 57 U.S. states...

Just saying.

I've been given to understand that there are 57 states

The Organization of Islamic States has no more, and no less, it has exactly 57 states as members. (it has a few other observer states, non-members):

Afghanistan 1969 Albania 1992 Algeria 1969 Azerbaijan 1991 Bahrain 1970 Bangladesh 1974 Benin 1982 Brunei Darussalam 1984 Burkina Faso 1975 Cameroon 1975 Chad 1969 Comoros 1976 Cote d'Ivoire 2001 Djibouti 1978 Egypt 1969 Gabon 1974 The Gambia 1974 Guinea 1969 Guinea-Bissau 1974 Guyana 1998 Indonesia 1969 Iran 1969 Iraq 1976 Jordan 1969 Kazakhstan 1995 Kuwait 1969 Kyrgyzstan 1992 Lebanon 1969 Libya 1969 Malaysia 1969 Maldives 1976 Mali 1969 Mauritania 1969 Morocco 1969 Mozambique 1994 Niger 1969 Nigeria 1986 Oman 1970 Pakistan 1969 Palestine State (proposed) 1969 Qatar 1970 Saudi Arabia 1969 Senegal 1969 Sierra Leone 1972 Somalia 1969 Sudan 1969 Surinam 1996 Syria 1970 Tajikistan 1992 Togo 1997 Tunisia 1969 Turkey 1969 Turkmenistan 1992 Uganda 1974 United Arab Emirates 1970 Uzbekistan 1995 Yemen 1969

OBAMA: Let’s not play games. What I was suggesting — you’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you’re absolutely right that that has not come–

STEPHANOPOULOS: Christian faith.

OBAMA: — my Christian faith. Well, what I’m saying is that he hasn’t suggested–

STEPHANOPOULOS: Has connections, right.

OBAMA: — that I’m a Muslim. And I think that his campaign’s upper echelons have not, either.

“Oh shut up. You never had a slip of the tongue? Especially when both North and South Korea were being discussed. Earth to ari-freedom, she does not hold any office. She hasn’t declared that she is seeking any office.”

You didn’t read what she wrote.
PAT: Sarah, you said in the last few days that you are considering a run for president.
SARAH PALIN: Yes.

Her entire response seems incoherent and not just the one word slip.

I saw that...it was still far to general and sophomoric from somebody who is purportedly positioning herself to take on the job of dealing with such issues.

A cursory reading of the NK/SK threads here shows that there are a dozen freepers who posses a far greater understanding of the situation, the history, the possible reactions and the likely fall-out of each of them.

This was a golden opportunity to show POTUS-worthy acumen and all we got was tweeting.

Her answer wasn’t bad. You and some others might not be satisfied that she didn’t give a lengthy exposition, but the media is trying to hang her with her slip of the tongue.

I’m glad you pointed that out because I wasn’t so quick to toss those two statements off as “gaffes”.

I’d argue that they were Freudian slips, both the 57 state thing and the “my Muslim faith” slip.

whatever the case, there’s no argument that Sarah’s slip of NORTH and SOUTH for God’s sake could be a slip of her allegiance to North Korea or some such.

As has been pointed out, just prior to the NORTH and SOUTH slip she’d correctly phrased a sentence referring to North Korea as the bad guys. Anybody going out to make some kind of silly argument that Sarah doesn’t know North from South Korea, who’s the ally, who’s the bad guy, based on this...blink an eye and move on.

You so-called Conservatives jumping on such silly stuff along with the insane libs so taken over with PDS syndrome...well hey, the Blue Blood Ruling Class seems to have some serious PDS as well, witness Babs Bush.

If the shoe fits....

One slip and the leftist media seizes upon it like a drop of blood splashing near some piranhas. They do themselves no service, because seizing on an honest slip (which we all make) correctly looks like bullying.

Especially considering what they don't report. My favorites are Obama addressing a crowd on Memorial Day, paying tribute to "our fallen, many of whom I see sitting here before me" or something to that effect. Or VP Joe BiteMe, who told some dizzy news anchor about how Americans watched FDR on television during the Great Depression.
