Sarah Palin has earned the right to for President
Politico ^ | Thursday December, 2, 2010 | Grover Norquist & Christopher Barron

Posted on 12/02/2010 8:47:36 AM PST by Bigtigermike

To the dismay of all but hard-core political junkies, the endless campaign is a reality of modern politics. With some midterm races still unresolved, voters’ attention is already turned to 2012. And no potential presidential candidate now garners more attention than former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Love her or hate her, admire her or fear her, respect her or ridicule her, it seems no one in the chattering class is without an opinion on Palin. Virtually every part of her life is dissected — sometimes by her own choice. Each word is scrutinized, and each misstep — no matter how small — is treated as breaking news.Palin has made clear that she is thinking about running for president. Everyone, from pundits to former first ladies, has weighed in on what she should do. Many urge her not to run.

But if she decides to, Republicans of all stripes should applaud her decision. This isn’t an endorsement of her candidacy. It is, however, an endorsement of her right to participate in the process.

If we want a GOP nominee prepared for the rough-and-tumble of the general election, then we need a rigorous primary. To ensure we nominate the best our party has to offer, we need as many of our leaders as are willing to throw their hats in the ring. If we want to guarantee that our standard-bearer reflects Republican values and priorities, then we need a diverse field to choose from.

Palin has earned the right to run if she chooses. Despite the left’s caricature of her, Palin’s résumé more than qualifies her as a top-tier candidate. She brings almost 20 years of public service experience to the table. She has served as city council member, mayor, chairwoman of Alaska’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, governor and GOP vice presidential nominee.

For me, Sarah Palin was qualified to run for president ever since she turned the age of 35, having been a US citizen for 14 years and been born here in the United States to American parents.

This voter’s attention was turned to 2012 about three years ago.

Sarah Palin definitely has the right to run for President, no doubt about it. I would suggest that we not close our eyes to others though. Mike Pence, Chris Christie are just a couple that should also run. During these times, we need to get away from having to choose the best of the worst. We can no longer afford to let the politicians tell us who is going to run. We need to pick the best of the best this time around.

Your excellent post is missing a word in the title: “run”, as in “right to run for President.”

Ping to decent article from Politico (the broken clock site).

Money sentence.

I find it really odd that not one candidate has announced yet. I thought after 2006, we were in 2008 campaign mode already (at this time).

Nobody has the right to be President.

To have the right to run for President, all you have to be is a Natural Born Citizen who is at least 35 years old, been a resident in the United States for 14 years, and not yet been elected to the office twice.

And even those requirements are, apparently, flexible...

Grover Norquist. Interesting. It seems Mitty has instructed his minions to appear ‘nice’ and inviting to Sarah. He has some devious strategy with this.

the right to be president is conferred by the electorate.

Yes, in that sense, she's had it from day one.

Sure, would you announce knowing what happened to Hussein's past opponents and 'fellow' church members?

The choice will boil down to about 5 or 6 RINO’s and 1 true conservative. I say lets take the chance on a true conservative for once (Sarah P).
