For the first time since 2008, inflation is hitting consumers in the stomach.
Grocery prices grew by more than 1 1/2 times the overall rate of inflation this year, outpaced only by costs of transportation and medical care, according to numbers released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Economists predict that this is only the beginning. Fueled by the higher costs of wheat, sugar, corn, soybeans and energy, shoppers could see as much as a 4 percent increase at the supermarket checkout next year.

Don`t know how much you really intend to put into this but, there`s no school like old school. http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com has brand new pressure cookers and spare parts for those yard sale finds.

The CPI was announced yesterday.
Consumer Price Index Ticked Higher in November
"Consumer Price Index rose by 0.1 percent in November, according to the latest reading of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the U.S. Labor Department."
You can buy all the beans in the store and plant them. I have a store of them either to eat or plant and most dry variety beans can be picked and eaten green too.
Well, I happen to eat very little red meat, so when I find a burger i really like, I eat it too often ... I have a Whopper Junior perhaps twice a month. The flavor of grilled burger is almost addictive. If i want a gut buster, I get that at Hardee’s near where I live. They have a half-pounder Angus burger that is unbeatable. When the guy/gal cooking those leaves, their burger will sink back to being just like all the other thick burgers. BTW, if you eat out, don’t drink sodas, drink tea or water or milk, but stay away from sodas.
Gargage sales are the best places to get your home canning supplies. People will nearly pay you to take their jars off their hands. If you buy a second hand pressure cooker/canner or if you decide to use one that’s been sitting around unused for the last decade, you should take it in to your local home extension agent’s office to be tested. Look in the blue government pages of the phone book for their number and location. They will test it for free and give you a ton of recipes and gardening tips.
Will the govt reconfigure the data to deny Social Security to seniors- once again.
Yeah...BK is damn good!
I don’t know of any Hardee’s around here, so I’m SOL on that.
Why no go on the soda?
The prices went up as soon as soon as it looked like a lot of strawberries, and oranges in Florida were going to freeze two nights ago.
You can do the same with raw peanuts.
Is that the cause? Ahh...
I never watch the news, so I miss items like that.
The ingestion of high sugar and carbonation erodes the lining of the stomach and upper portion of the intestines, making one more prone to ulcerations and cancer. The same is true of ingesting stright liquor or nearly straight with only minimal water or mixers. If you’re going to have straight liquor, make it a single malt scotch or a not so dry martini. But Wine is far better for the body. Naturally carbonated beers are not so bad, also. But alcohol consumers should ingest yogurts on a regular basis.
Not sure exactly what you meant by 'useable', but most any seed properly dried and kept will produce a plant and edible produce. With hybrids, you will get one of the parents, not the hybrid variety.
Is someone a biochemist? Very nice overview!
I’m a (red) wino all the way and I like yogurt - Stoneyfield Farms is my favorite.
Depends on where you farm. In the high plains, inputs are less. In the Deep South, cotton is one of the highest in inputs, and keeping the bugs off of the crop is almost a weekly spraying. If it is wet, that means an airplane. Too dry and irrigation costs mount.
In our area, soybeans are the less expensive crop to bring in, as long as you can dodge the rust and stinkbugs. Sweet potatoes and cotton are the most expensive, usually.
I love yogurt, also! Check out the pie recipe at the end of my profile page. That is goo ood stuff! I make a no cook banana pudding also, using banana pudding, vanilla wafers, vanilla yogurt and three bananas. Substitute the yogurt for the milk in the puddings. ... I’m making me hungry!
Sounds good! Yes, I’m getting the munchies too!
Thanks!
BTW, my fav red wine is a good Ruby Port. The best I’ve ever had regardless of price is Whidby’s from Washington State. Can’t get it back here in East Tennessee. For the price, Cockburn’s Fine Ruby is a pretty good substitute, but I add just a splash of Razamataz liquor to complete the more full fruity flavor it lacks. I also thrive on a good Merlot, with herb infused olive oil and a good fresh loaf of whole wheat french bread. God is so good to us Americans. We have so much of the truly simple things to bless our lives.
Got most of my year supply of food taken care of and natural gas for my CNG vehicle is holding steady at $1.52. I’m about to start raising rabbits for meat as well. I hope I’m somewhat ready for what’s coming.
