I was thinking, regarding the birds, that perhaps someone had turned a new LRAD system skyward, just to see what it would do to the birds that were flying over. Now, regarding the fish (I've just learned of that situation) I have no theory... Based on statements above, the incidents are geographically far enough apart to cause me to believe they are not connected to a single source.

I also thought about H2S or SO2, which are also gasesous byproducts of tectonic activity. Important point is that the sulphur related compounds have higher lethality potential. Methane unless at extremely high concentrations, would not have been the culprit.
