We are now seeing a repetition of American history. In 1979, America had a weak and indecisive Democrat President, Jimmy Carter, in office. Carter abandoned the Shah of Iran, when massive demonstrations were held against his rule. Many of the demonstrations in Iran in 1978-1979, were organized by pro-democracy and "progressive" groups, labor unions, and the youth, in an alliance with radical Islamists. But the Islamists were the largest organized group in Iran, and they took over, and persecuted the other so-called pro-democracy groups even worse than under the Shah.
Today, we have another weak and indecisive Democrat President in office. Deja Vu, anyone?
America must stand firm in favor of secular democracy and women's rights, and oppose religious fundamentalist political parties. Support for democracy must include opposing participation of anti-freedom, anti-women, and anti-democratic parties, in democratic elections.
If the Islamic Brotherhood takes power in Egypt, Israel will be in grave danger. It is bad enough that Iran is building nukes, that it intends to use against Israel. It is even worse that a pro-Hezbollah Prime minister has taken over in Lebanon. If the Jihadists take Egypt, Israel and the West are in big trouble.
Once again, when world events call for speedy, decisive and wise leadership, Obama votes present.
Funny how these things happen when dims are in office. If you are a foreign leader, why would you EVER expect any support from Washington?
With Jimmy Carter II in office? Absolutely.
Muslims are too stupid and inbred to function in a true Republic.
Weak and Indecisive is a perfect description of Obama.
Add that to the fact that he is on the side of Islam and Egypt is in a heap of trouble.
This is a situation that calls for a wise and strong leader of the US, and we have a rock star instead. It's Jimmy Carter redux.
Friends?
We don’t we need no stinking friends. /s
Yet another 3AM call: “Larry, would you get that?”
Of course we will. It's the Chicago way.
I’m sure he will issue a “sternly worded” statement about what he hopes will happen. Then he will sit idly by and do nothing. And in the future when the radical nutjobs take over Egypt and the Suez, he will blame it on the “failed policies” of a previous administration.
So this is not the ‘Arab Spring’ that Bush II had forseen?
Good picture of Obama in the bus. Obama threw his grandma under the bus. He tossed his pastor of over 20 years, under the bus. He threw Netanyahu and Israel under the bus. He pretends that he does not know his long time buddy, Bill Ayers. Mubarak had better watch out for those bus tires.
Is Mubarek ill? I heard the Stratfor guy, George Friedman say in an interview, “he’s clearly dying”.
Premier Hussein is incapable of taking any meaningful or useful steps to solve any crisis, foreign or domestic, and will only react to whatever happens, and then well after the fact.
This crew could not lead a starving dog to a steaming sausage, and the unrest in the Middle East will continue to escalate to who knows what end...
What happens to Mubarak depends on him. If he does not stop the Muslim Brotherhood they will kill him of run him out of Egypt.
Obama is better than Carter. He will have no problem in delivering Democracy bromides and letting Mubarak do what is necessary.
that is the most important question of the day - will a liberal president once again support the wrong side.
you do not even have to be a psychic to predict how this is going to turn out...see carter, jimmah for further clarification...
