Breaking: Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., Failed to Pay $287,000 in Property Taxes on Aircraft

In a conference call with reporters, Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill just disclosed that she failed to pay $287,000 in property taxes related to her co-ownership of a private aircraft. This scandal comes quickly on the heels of recent revelations that McCaskill improperly billed taxpayers for use of the same private aircraft, for which McCaskill reimbursed the Treasury $88,000:

She has earned the enmity of all decent people with that statement; easily the most repugnant and loathsome statement I've ever heard from a modern American politician. I will relish her defeat.

A member of the elected elites does it? It's more along these lines:
Well, when I found out about this I was furious. We've launched an intense internal investigation, with the cooperation of the Missori Department of Taxation and Finance, the Phelps County Prosecutor's Office, and the Senate Investigative Service, and nobody wants to get to the bottom of this more than I do. And I can assure the public that as soon as I know the answers, they'll know the answers. And now, because this is an active investigation, I will not be able to take any questions at this time.

This is becoming a huge headache for McCaskill. Right now, the likely Republican field is second-tier (Ann Wagner, Sarah Steelman, and Todd Akin), but this helps them immensely.
