Petraeus condemns Quran burning as protests rage on

Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.

Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."

"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

Do any of you people on this thread understand that actions have consequences? And those consequences directly affect the warriors in Afghanistan who are putting their asses on the line for you? This jackass preacher has every right to burn the Koran, but his actions pose a grave danger to our troops.

What reaction??

Are you saying they weren’t doing these things before the burning?

I see no difference.

I don't agree with him.

He called it the Holy Quran but has never condemned the burning of the Holy Bible or American Flag.

Seems Gen. David Petraeus is taking a page from the Bush compassionate war Manual,Which has worked out great\s,The General needs to step down for that remark and come home.

Their asses have been put on the lines, by the current rules of engagement that they have to operate under, in war you either release the dogs or you do not.

Who exactly are we fighting?

That jackass preacher has under our Constitution the right to burn that book as well as any other book, as deplorable as you might find it.

The General is only trying to protect his soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines.

That might be true, but in a totally different context. Petraeus is only following the order of his CiC, and it should be obvious to everyone now that while Soetoro has always camped with the enemy of the united States, if this article has any truth to it, then it appears Petraeus is now fighting for the other side too.

I'm sorry, The US Constitution and our God given rights trump Petraeus' new found love for Islam and our enemy.

Again, if there is any truth to this article, perhaps Move One was right about General Betray-us. He has joined the enemy camp and is now fighting against our Constitutional Rights.

Eikenberry said...Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts"

Except the parts of the Bible that condemn homosexual behavior

"and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."

Except for telling a military chaplain to shut up about certain parts of the Bible and not to pray using the name of Jesus -- or else, face discharge.

Enough already. Can we just, for once, admit who we are at war with and stop worrying about making them angry?

You are both using the same argument, that Jones is responsible for the muzzies committing murder.

The muzzies are responsible.

If this puts our soldiers in danger, then we best be about the business we went there for.

WAR.

Kill as many as fast as possible. Kill them ALL.

Politically correct BULLSHIT is putting our soldiers at risk.

Let’s end that.

The General needs to do military missions, not voicing a losing opinion. Screw the Muslims and the camel they rode in on, make them rich targets when they kill innocents.

These people didn't attack our troops. They tackled innocent civilians. Troops are armed, and they will attack those troops any time they can without a Koran being burned.

If burning a Koran would make them attack our troops it might work well to smoke them out.

These cowardly killers knew the UN guards would not shoot at them so they got a Freebie.

It doesn't take much to persuade a Muslim to behead someone just post a picture of their pedophile leader. So now we have to not post pictures of Mohamed and not burn Korans. Any other rules we should follow? Maybe we should just give up and let them take over. I don't think so.

Next time, it could be an anti-Islamic post here on FR that sends them over the edge.

So, should we ban any derogatory comments about Islam here on FR just to be safe?
