Yesterday the House passed H.R. 1363, which funds our Department of Defense and our military for the rest of the year at their current levels. It allows for the continuation of current military operations, which is pretty important when youre fighting three wars. It also funds the government for another week and cuts $12 billion in wasteful spending. So why would the Commander in Chief declare that he will veto this? Why would he play politics at the expense of our troops who are putting everything on the line to protect us? Memo to the President: I doubt the insurgents will stop and wait for a government shutdown to end before resuming actions. You need to fund our troops, sir.
Like me, you might be asking yourself: Why on earth would he threaten to veto funding for the troops? What is his game plan? Basically, hell veto military funding because he wants the rest of the government funded too. And by the rest of the government, he means things like Harry Reids Cowboy Poetry. Essentially, hes holding military funding hostage to NPR funding. This is a perfect analogy for what is wrong with this entire budget showdown. Our federal government has strayed so far from what is constitutionally mandated that they are blind to the fact that NPR funding is not a constitutional duty. Funding our military at a time of war is!
The House GOP does not want a shut down. They just want legitimate cuts (and I would argue not even enough!). If we cant agree to cut a billion here and a billion there, well never close this $1.5 trillion deficit.
Lets look at the numbers. We have a $1.5 trillion deficit this year. Were paying $200 billion a year on our interest alone. Thats half a billion dollars per day on interest. And our $1.5 trillion deficit means that were borrowing $4 billion per day just to keep afloat. So, we pat ourselves on the back if we cut a billion dollars here or a billion there in discretionary spending, as we borrow $4 billion a day and pay half a billion a day in interest. The deficit for the month of February alone was the highest in our history at $223 billion. Thats more than the entire deficit for the year 2007. And theres no end in sight. Were not heading towards the iceberg. Weve already hit it. Now were taking on water. We must find a way to get back to harbor to repair our ship of state before its too late.
Where is President Obama in all of this? He just doesnt get it. His 2012 budget was a signal of that. The Presidents proposed budget offered higher taxes and higher spending. A budget is supposed to be more than just numbers crunched on a spreadsheet. Its supposed to be a credible blueprint of a nations priorities and direction. The Presidents budget was a political document. It was designed not to ruffle any feathers or take any decisive moves to deal with the deficit problem. Instead of cutting spending, hes moving us in the opposite direction. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reported that the White House was not telling the truth when they claimed that their 2012 budget reduces the deficit. It actually increases it. Instead of dealing with the hard realities we face, he just kicked the can down the road. Thats not leadership. Thats politics.
Real leadership means leading by example. It means showing an all-in commitment to tackling complex issues and putting in the time and effort to educate the American public. Right now the American people have not been educated about this major challenge we face. Keep in mind that perception often becomes reality, and the perception President Obama has repeatedly given off is that he cant be bothered to deal with our debt crisis.
This is profoundly unfair to the American people. Throughout our history, we have proven again and again that we are strong enough and wise enough to do the right thing when we are properly informed. We can judge and make the tough choices when we are not spun by the media or the financial class or the political class. We the People can decide if our leaders level with us honestly.
Its about time the President step up to the plate and lead responsibly. Our troops who are putting themselves in harms way deserve a Commander in Chief who is not AWOL from the debt debate. The American people deserve a president who will take on the tough challenges and understand that funding Car Talk is not as crucial as funding our troops at a time of three wars.
2008 seems like such a long time ago, but 2012 is just around the corner. There is a leadership vacuum in the White House right now, but thats nothing that another good old-fashioned election cant fix.
- Sarah Palin
I have to laugh, every time I see someone post that "Trump is the only one taking it to Obama." Sarah's been 'taking it' to Obama since Day One of his pResidency.
Another trenchant commentary from Sarah Palin that clearly delineates the issues. She shows why Obama and the Democrats are wrong and why they are wrong, with a touch of biting sarcasm thrown in for flavor. Well done, as usual and another example of why I very much hope Sarah Palin decides to run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, which I believe she’ll win. Palin would make Obama look like a fool in a debate and all the 24/7 media sniping and internet name-calling aimed at her would not change the reality that Sarah Palin, with her solid, common sense, conservative approach to the many problems facing our country, would be an excellent president. We know the left hates her but the elites on the right that sniff at her lack of an Ivy League law degree or the fact that she is a unapologetic Christian are almost as bad. Sarah Palin is not above criticism but a lot of it seems shallow and petty based on fake polls or accepting the media’s negative characterization of a savvy, charismatic woman that can led America back from the brink of destruction a generation of liberalism and Barack Hussein Obama have led us to. Palin is my choice for president in 2012 and if she chooses not to run, I’ll be disappointed because I don’t see any other solid conservative candidates on the horizon, but, absent Palin, I would definitely consider Michelle Bachmann.
Born February 11, 1964 in Sandpoint, ID (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Parents were
Charles R Heath, born in ID
Sarah Sheeran, born in WI
Both parents were US Citizens at the time of her birth (Meets the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Sarah Palin is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Comrade Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.
Heck, I've seen some posts praising The Apprentice by some of the very same people who have previously attacked Sarah Palin for her show. Yet another double standard in play.
I don’t think Trump is a serious candidate. He’s just having fun.
PDS’ers are drain bamaged.
I see them as little more than bugs at a picnic. Swat ‘em down and pass the potato salad.
Sarah ROCKS it again!! Somewhere in the White House, Obama is hiding under his desk..asking his teleprompter what he should say in response
Well, I don’t buy the media narrative she’s in it ‘just for the money.’ No doubt the money is nice, but I don’t think it is her driving motivation.
She earnestly believes the Republic is in danger. She wants to help, whether through endorsing candidates, providing resources, or serving herself. I take her at her word, she’s seriously considering it and, as you say, trying to decide if she can best help get rid of Obama through running, or some other way.
Personally, I think she will run.
Even if their narrative were correct - it isn’t even close - she would quickly be over-shadowed by whoever the nominee is, by her own choice (get the ball into the hands of the person who can score). Under their reasoning, her number 1 selling point (they say ‘star power’, but this is what they really mean) is her potential to be the first female Republican nominee and President. So, her best shot (possibly only shot) is now.
Putting aside their warped worldview, she see’s few others entering the race who are consistent conservatives, able to gain traction, or able to excite the base. She knows she can raise more money than any of the others and has an army of volunteers dwarfing any competitor. She has executive experience, and a solid record.
She also has more testicular fortitude than most of the men (Romney, Pawlenty, Thune, Huckabee, etc.).
Most importantly, she knows a real tough negotiator and competitor has to replace Obama to clean-up the mess.
She might not be securing the darlings of the professional political class, but when was that ever her style or approach?
She’ll run. Even though there are other good people - Bachmann, Cain, Bolton, Gary Johnson - few can bring together the broad conservative spectrum (Bolton will not inspire social or libertarian leaning conservatives, Gary Johnson will alienate social conservatives), they lack the base to defeat Romney.
Trump, Romney, and arguably Huckabee represent the equivalent of a second McCain run, or worse. Even if they were to win, they would blur lines between conservatives and liberals and condemn us to an ever expanding government by abdication and craven capitulation. She won’t let that happen without jumping in to set things right.
She’ll run because she is sincere in saying competition is a good thing, and the electorate deserve a real choice.
She’ll run because she isn’t scared of the media, the insiders, or the elites. She wants to defeat them as badly as we do.
She’ll run because she and her family have already been the target of merciless underhanded attacks, character assassination, and ridicule - not running won’t stop it, she won’t quit speaking out; so why not do the opposite of what her detractors want and expect, and win the presidency?
The only way she won’t run is if she see’s somebody else in a better position to defeat Obama who is equally committed to restoring our constitutional Republic.
Unlike Star Wars, there is no other.
Worse, a charlatan like Trump is gaining in popularity for saying things he doesn’t really believe - the ultimate con. She won’t let that happen without a fight.
Caveat: There are some great people out there (Jim DeMint, Bobby Jindal, Scott Walker), but they either aren’t running this time or won’t be in a position to run until 2016 or later. I (and I suspect many others) don’t want anybody from DC. Governors aren’t perfect - some are horrible like Jimmy Carter - but members of congress are unknown and lack executive experience. Even some really good ones are occasionally wrapped up in the culture of Washington (e.g. Tom Coburn, Jim Inhofe, Darrel Issa).
Exactly. Those comments infuriate me. It’s like they have selective hearing and blindness...like calling a dog’s name when they really don’t want to come.
I cannot understand how any self-respecting, self-described conservative and seriously support Trump.
He is an opportunist. Do they really think he suddenly saw the light?
I’m more likely to believe Barrack Hussein Obama really converted to Christianity than to believe Donald Trump became a conservative.
I can only chock it up to their blinding passion to pursue BHOs questionable credentials to the exclusion of all else. Never mind he’d equally destroy the Republic, at least they’d win the argument on Obama’s legitimacy.
I do believe Sarah will run. She will crush all her opponents to get the GOP nomination. She will make mincemeat of Obama in the debates. She will win, >370EV.
I met Sarah at one of her book signing in Nov 2010. It was unforgettable. She has a way of connecting with the people that is unmatched by any other politician on the scene today.
LOL.
Very funny.
OT Huckabee chimed in: GOP should drop PP funding and declare victory: “Republicans can win if they go ahead and announce that they have won”
What a dope.
Go Sarah Go...I cannot wait to vote for her
He has done an admirable job taking it to the administration, and not just on the birther stuff.
He's not going to be in my top handful of candidates ever, but having him around wreaking havoc on the administration is a winner. I'll laud him for doing the work that other Americans (in the GOP) won't do.........
I was talking with a co-worker of mine this week, and he was 100% against Palin - because she quit being Governor of Alaska, costing Alaskans millions for a special election.
That’s it - that’s the reason he won’t vote for her. Even though she stepped done to save Alaskans millions in legal fees from unsubstantiated lawsuits. Even though there was no special election, the Lieutenant Governor took over, just as if she had died, or was elected as the Vice President. Didn’t matter to him - she quit.
He also said he felt Obama had “restored our standing in the international community”. Seriously - that’s a DIRECT QUOTE. From someone who says (and thinks) they are up to date on the news, both international and national.
In other words - some folks just don’t get it.
