Congress Strikes a Budget Deal, Averts Shutdown
Fox News ^ | Apr 9, 2011

DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

Republicans, in usual fashion, are waisting opportunity after opportunity.

What needs to be broadcast over and over is this:

The Democrats did not do their job (whether we would like what would have come of it at the time or not) last year. The government has been operating without a fully passed budget for how long???? All because the Democrats CHOSE to not hammer out a budget when they had full control over both houses of CONgress. They put it off, scared of what passing a budget would have meant to the election.

Just that fact alone should have been broadcast going into last Fall’s elections - the DEMocRATs FAILED to do THEIR DUTY - the JOB they had been elected to do!!!

but just like then - Repubs are missing opportunities.

Nancy the Witch Pelosi comes out and screams that the budget impass was nothing but an attack on women. Hello - Mrs. Pelosi - where were you when you SHOULD have passed a budget when abortion wouldn’t have even had an effect?

Where are Republicans on fuel prices? Same situation - last time prices were this high - the DEMoncRATs screamed to the world that Bush was at fault.

Where are the fingers pointing at Obama (who has actually done more to hurt consumers with his policies than possibly any other president in the last 60+ years)???? He single-handedly shut down drilling and exploration. His monetary policy (with the help of his CONgress for two years) spent and printed money - all affecting what we pay for oil/gasoline.

And the repubs let crickets chirp...

Just wondering, but what do you expect Boehner and the GOP to do when the democrats still control the senate and the White House? There’s only so much we can do until we regain a majority in the senate and retake the White House. The House Republicans can pass any bill they want, but Reid and Obama can shoot down any GOP-backed bill, and endless stalemate and government shut-down in NOT a viable option.

(I’m also starting to wonder what percentage of people posting on this thread are DNC operatives trying to create dissension inside the GOP.)

So did they defund Obamacare or not? I have heard two stories on that.

Obamacare is funded. However, if Reid keeps his word, it will be voted on in a separate bill outside of this budget bill. I like it because there are many dem senators that will have to show their true colors.

I’m not sure I want to go to battle if the Republicans have my back.

I'm with you. I am DONE with the em-effers.
Every man for himself.

Meanwhile, as far as the GOP is concerned, my checkbook remains slammed shut.

This is true. It points up what can be accomplished with true leadership and by not caving. I fear this is not the situation nationally.

Well, for one, I would be happy to throw my support behind Scott Walker in 2012. That man has, indeed, shown amazing leadership. I would trust him with the Presidency.

It would be great if we had more Scott Walkers nationally; it is obvious they aren't there, but perhap that particular Scott Walker might entertain a promotion.

Don’t forget: IIRC, about 40,000 British soldiers were taken prisoner at Dunkirk. They went into captivity — fighting the hopeless fight — so the greater war could be won

Your point is well made, but those were mostly French soldiers - virtually all of the BEF in the Dunkirk enclave were evacuated, though hundreds died from bombing and strafing of their ships enroute to England.

I have yet to see a news report that says we got $88 billion in budget cuts.

In their joint statement Boehner and Reid said 78.5 billion in cuts.

If true, that’s worth about two whoopees then I guess.

To paraphrase Gen. Patton: I'd rather have a Rat division in front of me than a GOP one behind.

I still hold firm in my conviction that there are battles to pick.

I do too. And I will maintain until my dying day that if we had ever chosen to die on the hill that innocent, beautiful children are being ripped to bloody shreds upon, God may have granted us a modicum of mercy.

But we haven't. And He won't.

This isn't a throwaway "social issue" or barter tool in some political horse-trading session. This is the ball game. The entire essence of our existence. Stand for life or you stand for nothing.

I like you, Laz. But you're missing the big picture on this one. We needed to stand our ground for these kids. We failed them once again. And we're running out of time to try to make this right.

The Tea Party won’t be wiping his tears. He can cry when he realizes We The People want him to resign and let a real man take over.

I don’t understand why so many FReepers are blaming this budget deal on Boehner. It’s not his fault, and there’s only so much the House Republicans can do about it, until the GOP retakes the senate and the White House.

The OP(formerly the GOP) and the RATs are both to blame. They two factions of one big socialist Republicrat machine that has enabled Congress to expand their powers beyond the enumerated powers granted to Congress in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution thereby creating a centralized, runaway, out of control government too costly to maintain.

The only way to reduce the federal deficit is by restoring the limited government principles our founding fathers instilled in the Constitution thereby forcing Congress back within the confines of Article 1 Section 8. any budget proposal absent of this requirement is nothing but smoke and mirrors by the OP and the RATs.
