'Legal weed ruined my life'

A young Tauranga man wants "legal weed" banned, claiming an addiction to it drove him to steal and left him riddled with anxiety.

Student Robert Moore, 23, (pictured) says he smoked up to $80 of Kronic each day and claims the marijuana alternative has had damaging psychological and physical effects on him. But Kronic has rejected the claims, saying its products are not addictive and are harmless unless used irresponsibly. The R18 synthetic cannabinoid is made from a mixture of dried herbs and is available at about 20 outlets across the Western Bay.

The product usually contains the 1,1-dimethyloctyl homologue of the substance CP 47,497, a synthetic substantially similar to the main active component of cannabis tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Mr Moore spoke to the Bay of Plenty Times after the newspaper last month reported that Kronic was being sold outside Western Bay's largest secondary school - horrifying the mother of one teenager who she says got stoned from it.

Mr Moore got hooked on the product after first trying it late last year.

"We had him home for the summer and his personality was completely screwed. He'd become very devious, he was very distant and he had lost the ability to socialise. His personality has changed radically because of this and I think it should be banned, definitely." But Kronic spokesman Ben Thompson said the product contained no ingredients that could create a dependence or cause psychological problems.

"The effects are similar to cannabis but it's not as strong or intense and isn't harmful."

By the way...the new NIV (2011) changed their translation to this:

23 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.

Little different meaning than what you posted isn’t it? Maybe next year they will have something else...

That does not matter...

Alcohol prohibition was done Constitutionally and it was also repealed Constitutionally...

Tobacco, for instance, should either be banned constitutionally or not regulated like it is...

Tobacco, like marijuana and opium, can be harvested like any food product.

A stronger case can be made for “medical opium” than for “medical marijuana.” (I think medical marijuana is a total bullshit story.)

It is a perfectly natural fruit of the earth and should be treated like any other vegetable.

As for the new NIV, it still says the same thing as the GREEK! Your posting does not change Jesus’ TWO commandments! On those, hang ALL the law and the prophets!!!

You really seem confused WVKayaker...sorry. I simply cannot think of anything Jesus said or would have said that would be counter to the Ten Commandments.

And your interpretation of the NIV is inaccurate...indeed, the version you quoted is much different than the 2011 version of the NIV...

I'm ridiculous? You're the one telling me that Christians are bound by the Ten Commandments.

You may wish to read the New Testament more! Paul explains what Jesus told us, and the crux of it is that we are free from the law. Believe it or not! I know in Whom I believe! He's my Brother...

I think you are misunderstanding what is being said. You really do not think Jesus advised that we are free from God’s law do you? Of course not.

Free will provides us with the ability to do evil or good. Doesn’t guarantee us a place in heaven. On the contrary, it gives us the ability to reject God and heaven.

You had presented a translation (NIV 2005) and I showed you where the translation was changed (NIV 2011) with an entirely different meaning. I think some folks interpreted like you with the older version and they corrected it.

Of course I believe you believe and love Jesus. You would not state so, otherwise.

The earlier version doesn't have any different meaning than the later version. It's just more grammatically correct in verse 24 avoiding the singular subject "no one" and the plural possessive pronoun "their" to accomodate those who are afraid of sexist language. Both verses show Paul quoting antinomians and answering them. The later version introduced "you say--" to make even more explicit what somewhat illiterate folks were still missing in the earlier version.

There are plenty of other places in scripture where the writers emphasize the fact that being "free of the law" isn't to be confused with "being able to do whatever we want without fear of being condemned for sinning," or, as some singer wrote back in the 1970's, that Jesus "freed us from the sin in sinning."

You would have to go back to our earlier posts...I don’t disagree with what you are saying...indeed it is my point as well. I don’t think I would go so far as to say someone misinterpreting the NIV 2005 translation is illiterate. The statement “Everything is permissible” is too broad and easy to take out of context...that is why they changed it later I am thinking.

I think Paul was referring to antinomialists who thought that Jesus's death made it so that everything that was formerly sin was now no longer sin and they could do as they pleased. In Romans he referred to some others who claimed that Paul and others were saying, "Let us do evil so that good will result." They had as many wackos back then as we do now, though the ones now have almost 2000 years of history to inform them, so they're really without much of an excuse.
