At approximately 8:36 a.m. a male identified as Cody Nathaniel Willcoxon was seen at the entrance gate at Fort Leonard Wood with an AK-47. After being questioned by FLW Military Police the suspect fled the scene, and was pursued by members of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Dept. and St. Robert Police Department in a silver passenger car. The suspect then began to shoot at the pursuing officers, and he headed east on I-44. Spike strips were set up on I-44 which resulted in the suspect exiting at the Rolla 184 Exit. The Suspect then began shooting at Rolla Police Officers and members of the Phelps County Sheriff's Dept. as they pursued him. The suspect then drove through several areas in Rolla where he continued shooting at officers. The suspect vehicle stopped near McNutt Hall at Missouri University of Science and Technology near University Drive/Hwy 63. The suspect fled from his vehicle on foot with a long rifle. A perimeter was established by Law Enforcement Officers around McNutt Hall and the building was cleared by law enforcement officers.
Several minutes later the suspect broke into an occupied residence in the 1000 block of Crinoidal Ct. The suspect demanded the keys to the resident's car and stole it. He later fled the scene in the stolen car and since that time neither he nor the car has been located. The stolen car is identified as:
Stolen Vehicle 2003 Ford Taurus Charcoal Gray in color MO License ROLLAB (The license plate is a Rotary Club International personalized license plate) The vehicle has several stickers on the back window (American Flag, Air Evac, and Rotary Club International)
Well he seems to have changed out of that shirt rather quickly.
Is this for real??
It reads like “Standard Plot #6 for Cookie-Cutter Cop Shows”....
Being questioned by officials at Ft Leonard Wood —according to AP, it means the guard examined his ID and found it lacking.
Willcoxon left the area, according to AP, after he accelerated through the gate and drove onto the base where he was pursued by military police until he drove off the base. This is apparently where the local law enforcement took over and were shot at.
So. First, the perp isn’t stopped by FLW Military Police.
He evades capture by Pulaski County Sheriff’s Dept.
He evades capture by St. Robert Police Dept.
He evades capture by Rolla Police Dept.
He evades capture by Phelps County Sheriff’s Dept
Perp flees his vehicle at McNutt Hall. Officers surround McNutt Hall, establish a perimeter and clear the building.
But, the perp wasn’t in McNutt Hall. He busts in on some homeowners in their residence, steals their car, gets away undetected, and now noone knows where he is.
I’m feeling more secure.
No, all the bases in Monterey county are now closed with high security barricades and guard houses at all the entrances.
Without a military ID or DOD ID, American citizens can’t go there anymore.
OMG I have a nephew at Ft. Leonardwood.
Can you find out whats going on and post it here?
"Use of unnecessary violence to apprehend the Blues Brothers has been approved."
Will someone please post that image of the many objects the media calls AK-47?
I can’t even write him a letter right now they went into the “woods” on Monday. per his most recent letter to me from Saturday.
I’m guessing they know where he lives... seems like he has been in jumpsuit orange before, based on the photo.
They must have SCMODS.
It’s Janet Nepalincompatano’s dream come true.
It’s OK, everyone, not to worry—guns aren’t allowed on military posts! Dodged a bullet there, eh?
“Geez Louise this is a military base aint it? I hope at least now they are allowed to defend themselves instead of having to wait on civvie copz.”
Nope. I have a Texas CHL and have to leave my weapon at home if I’m going to a military base. Absolute idiocy.
OK, I can sorta see how it can happen that this guy got away from the gate guard....
So he was in his car, and the gate guard no doubt had a holstered pistol. Car drives off, and by the time the gate gaurd can pull his gun, he no longer has a clean shot.
What I don't understand, though, is how the guy got back off the base. Don't they have barriers to prevent exactly that sort of thing?
I think the security arrangements at Ft. Leonard Wood are about to receive some very uncomfortable scrutiny...
I just received a text message from KMOU TV that said the subject was apprehended.
Update: May 12 at 12:55 p.m.:
Authorities have the suspect in custody. Authorities caught him on County Road 6030 near Edgar Springs. Law enforcement officials got the custody on ground at gunpoint.
Cody Willcoxson, 31, is in custody. He has one gunshot wound.
