Herman Cain Frustrated by ‘Nitpicky Reporters’ and ‘Idiotic’ Press Corps

Politicians need patience when they’re dealing with voters, shaking hands and kissing babies. But Herman Cain has never held political office before and there are signs he’s none too happy with some of the press coverage that comes along with his unlikely run for the GOP presidential nomination.

At one point during a speech Friday to a ‘Right to Life’ convention in Jacksonville, Florida, he said some “nitpicky reporters” were going to call him out about his historical knowledge and then later he said during his speech “My challenge to you is, we cannot just push back, we have got to fight back. It’s that serious” followed by “now another reporter is going to say ‘he’s advocating violence’” – and went on to explain that he people need to fight with their voices and votes.

On Wednesday at a campaign stop in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO called reporters “idiotic” for taking him seriously about only signing three page bills.

“It probably wasn’t politically correct to raise my voice,” he (Cain) said a moment later, upon reflection. “But do you know what’s resonating with the American people? I’m going to be myself. I’m not going to be a punching bag.”

Did anyone notice the spin the reporter put on the story?

It starts by saying Cain needs to be patient with VOTERS, then the rest of the story is about Cain not being patient with REPORTERS. Voters and reporters are not the same thing.

I say good for Cain. It's time Republicans quit playing softball with MSM reporters who don't treat both parties equally. They go after GOP candidates hard, but take it easy on Democrat candidates.

We need to start calling these guys out.

I guess I’m an idiot too then; because I thought that he was onto something good there.

How much shorter would bills be, if there were no pork included? How much shorter would they be, if they were written in plain English?

From the MSM’s “this conservative candidate is a lightweight who can’t be taken seriously” template. Never saw a story like this about how thin-skinned Barry is with the press, which would be more appropriate since they absolutely adore him.

What he actually said was “short”, then used three pages as an example of a short bill.

The press spun it to as if he said he wouldn’t sign anything over 3 pages.

Bump to your post. The GOP candidate better be able to run against the media or they will die the McCain/Dole death.

I like Cain, but if nitpicky and biased reporters get him upset he's going to have a stroke before he gets anywhere near the white house. The Gipper is a better model, and- to give the devil his due, Clinton - for how to handle the press corps as an art form. A big part of winning the presidency is enjoying and being energized by the fight, otherwise you're toast. I think Cain would make a hell of a VP but I hope the MSM doesn't give him a heart attack.

Being openly hostile isn’t the answer. Simply stating that you already been asked hundreds of questions on that point, have answered them all, and you won’t be making any further comments on it is the best way to handle it.

Let the reporter sit there and stew.

I like Cain. I just think there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about this. You have to be reasoned, even if the Leftist press can’t be.

I don’t want a populist that bullies the press. That’s not the way to go either.

I like Cain. I could easily vote for the guy. I don’t want to see him go down that path.

I believe in what General Sherman once said about reporters during his siege in the South...simply:

“every reporter is an enemy and should be shot”

Works well for me.

Poor Herman.

He has no idea.

If it looks like he might be a serious contender, the media will be merciless. He needs to review how the media have treated Palin since 2008.

He ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

We need to start calling these guys out.

They did the same thing with Reagan, but he never forgot that he was talking to the American people through a biased media and he would answer the questions with his own message. The media thought he did not understand the questions but the public got the message.

You know, if Cain didn’t get upset so easily he may have had a chance.

They will be playing the reverse-racism-double-Irish-whip card. Basically, since Mr. Cain is a Black man, he is immune from being called a racist. And that makes him racist.

the media took on the mantle of speaking for voters. If the reporters find something important, then its the ppl who find it important. The public have the right to know!! You mean you partisan reporters want to know

>> You know, if Cain didn’t get upset so easily he may have had a chance. <<

People running need to be themselves. Cain’s smiles and laughs a lot — and his getting upset at times might turn off some voters — but will probably resonate with others very well. His entire appeal as an author, speaker and tea party rally speaker has been his “in your face” attacks on liberalism. He is who he is.

And people forget when they talk about Reagan — that he got openly upset at times too. It wasn’t 100% “the happy warrior. “
