A fan poses during the opening night of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on July 14, in Los Angeles, California. The eighth film in the Harry Potter series broke single-day box office records with a whopping $92.1 million in opening day sales, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.
The eighth film in the Harry Potter series eclipsed 2009's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which previously held the one-day ticket sales record at $72.7 million, added Exhibitor Relations.
"Deathly Hallows -- Part 2," the action-packed finale to one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, opened in North America cinemas Friday with a special midnight screening.
The film sees boy wizard Potter take on the evil Lord Voldemort in a climactic showdown, the second of two movies based on the final Potter book by British author J. K. Rowling.
Industry experts predict that Potter, and his wizarding friends, will set a new all-time opening weekend record, and beat current record holder superhero Batman into second place.
"The Dark Knight," the last of Batman's film adventures, hauled in $158 million on its opening weekend in 2008

Saw it at midnight, all 16 theaters were sold out, even for 130 AM showings. Sadly, I was disappointed by the movie. It was just ok, didn’t make the key scenes memorable.
All of the adult fans in our home were all disappointed. They did not like the deviation from the books.
A win for the dark side.
We had 28 theaters sold out for 12:01 and 3am.
Tickets were sold out through the weekend. We had tickets for 4pm Friday to join our friends who couldn’t come with us to the Midnight showing. The party was starting all over again Friday night.
We just resolved that there is a “movieverse” and a “novelverse” so we enjoyed the flick.
>>A win for the dark side.<<
I really hope you’re not serious.
Probably the only way to watch any favorite book translated to the silver screen.
IMHO, the books should have been made into a miniseries each, not 2 hr movies.
Every book after 4 should have been two three-hour-movies.
Radcliffe is damn good on Broadway in “How To Succeed”. He’s a very talented young man.
I am rather proud of the fact that I have never read a Harry Potter book or seen a Harry Potter movie. Just not that into the whole Potter phenom...lol. Now CS Lewis is a different thing...loved all of those books.
Should you ever decide to read/listen to the books, please let me know what you think of them.
The good thing about them is it got a lot of kids reading for pleasure, so they might be more likely to pick up something else. The bad thing is that it might lower expectations, making more challenging books less likely to be attempted.
They aren’t as good as CS Lewis. Especially the sci-fi trilogy. They are fairly entertaining, though.

We all thought the movie was wonderful. My son is quite the movie critic, and wants to be a film composer someday, and he pronounced it "nearly perfect." As a parent, I thought it was fantastic - many of the best scenes involve very moving interactions of children and parents. It reminds you that this was not a world created only for children, and that every child needs his/her parents to guide them and protect them. And the scenes involving Snape moved me to tears, which I did not think was possible with this series. Very well directed and movingly acted. Excellent scoring too.
We will probably see it again next weekend.
Getting kids to read for pleasure is a ‘magic trick’ in and of itself...lol. When my son was a preteen, I bought him the SE swimsuit edition on the condition that he would read all of the articles (just to get him reading for fun). I was desperate...lol. It worked somewhat..he reads alot now, but not much sci fi or fantasy. He is more into biographies, history, politics and other such stuff. Still loves sports and the swimsuit edition though...lol.
Will do.
