House Republicans will link passage of a balanced-budget amendment to Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) last-ditch debt-ceiling plan, which GOP lawmakers said would move the measure to passage in a high-stakes vote later on Friday.
Republican lawmakers voiced confidence the enhanced bill would pass muster with conservatives, as Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) predicted the balanced-budget amendment change would bring 10 to 20 more GOP members on board.

What are the details of the BBA? According to Rush there are NO details in the Boehner 3.0 bill. For me that’s a non-starter.
States will seceed before they pass a new amendment. It’s expensive and it hasn’t been done that many times. There’s a reason for that.
This BBA is smoke and mirrors and it gives the Tea Party folks cover.
The Senate won't have to kill it.
A Constitutional amendment needs 290 votes in the House. Do you seriously believe there are 290 votes in the House to pass a (real) BBA?

I more or less agree with Kathryn about what will happen next. Boehner passes; the requirements for the second tranche are weakened and/or wiped out in the Senate; the final deal passes in the House with help from Democrats. We get some cuts and a commission and what is, essentially, a debt increase past the election
Lookit, balanced budgets aren’t perfect. You can mock and poke fun at those who believe you got to start somewhere.
Most of us have worked with budgets before, often on the job, departmental budgets and such, for sure in our own households.
First, you gotta start somewhere. It does not help to shake in horror at the work that might involved, to ponder the pitfalls, to consider it an effort of too much time. You gotta start somewhere and by me, you got 67% of the population in favor of a balanced budget, seems as good a time as any to start.
I realize that you consider so many of us too stupid to understand the nuance of the horror of balancing a federal budget so I’ll allow that we’re all dummies.
The benefits of a required, even if the thing NEVER works out as predicted, even if the politicos lie about projected revenue (or less likely, are legitimately mistaken), it FORCES the funds allocated to be PART OF THE PUBLIC DEBATE.
It takes the spending of our money from out of the congressional cloak rooms and puts in front of our eyeballs.
Much like, I whisper softly, this debt ceiling raise has finally made the American public aware at just how badly congress has handled our money.
But silly me, I’m just a simple soul thinking that those charged with taking the monies of others should have to account for it, to allow input BEFORE it’s spent.
If they “consider” this bill and bring it to the floor for amendments, the Republicans can also offer amendments, and that could take almost forever. THEN it goes back to the House for reconciliation and degutting, which could take almost forever........
And the world is watching.

And that is why I don’t take this game seriously. It sorta reminds me of the movie “Stick it”.
And did I mention I am driving from Seattle (my home since 1966) to my new home in rural Kentucky farmland next Monday. I’m sure it is only coincidental that we are leaving one day before Debt Ceiling day. ;-)
As I watch the impotent congress and Urkel attempt to solve a problem that is 10 levels above their pay grade, I realize just how hopeless it is that this thing will end anything CLOSE to “well”. I see it as clearly as I see the thunder clouds coming with the prevailing winds towards my plateau in Kentucky. I realized this week that any and all doubt has been removed from my mind regarding the catastrophe that is looming LITERALLY just around the corner.
Even if we dodge the bullet this year, there is no way next year’s election cycle will not be the actual catalyst if it continues to only fester until then.
The title of my “goodbye” email to my work mates at my company is “So Long, and Thanks For The Fish”.
Where I am going does not guarantee survival or comfort, but it certainly reduces risk.
Boehner has spent an immense amount of time, energy and political capital to present a bill which is generally hated on the right and completely hated on the left. As soon as it was announced, Reid, Schumer and Durbin took to the airwaves to denounce it, blasting Boeher whenever the opportunity presented itself.
My question is: If he knows it’s DOA in the Senate, why not pass a great bill that would fire up the base?
The end result would still be the same - DOA in the Senate with Reid, Durbin and Schumer on TV bashing it - but Boehner would look like a hero instead of being a mealy mouthed sellout.
Some things never change. How depressing.

The elites sworn in the freshman class while holding their noses. They hate them and everyone who voted for them.
imam obama has nothing to do with the BBA. He can’t propose anything with regard to it. It goes to the states for ratification...and that could take years.

But, what the hell, let them go ahead nd pass the damn thing. The sooner we go broke, the sooner the Americans among us can begin rebuilding. The others, the buzzards will eat them, because they lack the will and ability to survive without the governent wiping their butts. It is going to be tough on the Americans, but, in the end they will figure a way to survive.
The House Rules Committee is now meeting to amend the bill.
Not sure what time today this means it will be voted by the full House.
I say shame on National Review, Townhall, Weekly Standard, Laura Ingraham, Hugh Hewitt, etc. for supporting this garbage. I thought NR at least was better than this.
