Did Perry Even Vote For Reagan?

Posted on 08/15/2011 5:41:08 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Rick Perry was a Democrat until Karl Rove convinced him to switch parties and run as a Republican against Jim Hightower for Agriculture Commissioner.

Perry is always mentioning Reagan... But no Yellow-Dog Texas Democrat who was a chairman for Al Gore in 1988 would have voted for Reagan. Some Democrats would have... but not a leading member of the Texas party.

Perry is just too slick. He is not conservative at all.

In 1980 he was farming cotton with his father on his ranch. And a LOT of democrats voted for Reagan over Jimmy Carter, so it’s not beyond belief that he would have voted for Reagan rather than the then-proven liberal Carter.

Reagan voted for FDR.

And did he later portray himself as some sort of modern Thomas Dewey?

Of course not. No one could EVER support Al Gore in 1988 (much less run his Texas campaign) after what the Democrats did to Reagan in Iran Contra (i.e., tried to impeach Reagan).

Okay, I'll try asking you. Since you state with such authority that Perry did not vote for Reagan (even though we know he voted for Bush41), can you please provide evidence to support that contention? And I am not talking about your "logic" or "common sense" - I am talking about some source that has Perry telling us how he voted. Otherwise, this is nothing but your personal opinion.

You forgot Romney in your list of RINOs. Paperdoll, are you a mormon? Is that what it is?

Uh-oh. I think I sniffed you out!

“It is my deep personal conviction that abortion is wrong. I hope that some day we will see the current outrageously large number of abortions drop sharply. . . . Let me assure you that I share your belief that innocent human life must be protected . . .” (Letter from Rep. Al Gore to a Constituent, 7/18/84)

Is this your idea of a pro-abortion stance? Obviously Senator Gore became algore and a raving lunatic but he wasn't one back then.

Yes, because there’s a word for people who disagree as to the facts... they’re called liberals. Hope you enjoy Jerry Brown, he wouldn’t have been possible without Ah-nold... y’know, your Socialist RINO guy “who could win.” Toodles.

Are you serious? You are assuming his faith made him a conservative? LOL! Like Pelosi and Kennedy with their faith.

You also show your complete lack of understanding of Texas politics in the 1980's, so it is pointless to try to persuade you.

I am a born and raised Texan whose step father held elective office in Texas, and I went back into military service out of wanting to support Reagan with more than just a vote. While I was in Texas in 1984 voting for Reagan and 1988 voting for Reagan's veep, Perry was fighting for the Democrats and was fighting to serve Al Gore in a very personal, passionate, dedicated way.

You evidently will say anything.

Did Perry vote for Reagan ?

We don't know. As I said, it wouldn't surprise me if he did, but unlike others on this thread, I am not going to make authoritive statements about something that don't know for sure.

He doesn’t understand the difference between a Conservative and being conservative.

Either that or he doesn’t care.

“Being a Democrat in 1962 is a far far cry from being a Democrat in 2011. Most Democrats in the 60’s, President Kennedy included, would be considered, if not out and out right wing extremists then very close to it, by today’s Democratic/Communist standards and their sycophants in the press.”

Yea, I vividly remember that one of President Reagan (you know, the RINO, per Rick Perry supporters) used to really get under the skin of the 1980s Democrats by always quoting JFK. It was a blast to watch.

Oh good grief. Dude, I know Him so well. He just cured me of synchronous breast and ovarian cancer, Stage II and Stage III. We’ve been so close this last couple of chemo years. He loves me. He ADORES me. He would have to to bless me the way he has, regardless of my faults too numerous to count. So why don’t you get off your high horse, think about what you’re doing and what it matters and is it worth explaining to Him later. We are ultimately on the same side. I believe Perry is being directed by God. So does he. I believe Palin has a part. All I ask is not my will but His be done. And I’m goign to do my part to let him work through me.

Reagan voted for FDR.

Reagan also admitted that he voted for FDR and repented for it. Let me know when Perry repents for voting for Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis.

You’d think after 7 1/2 years of “He can win” Ah-nold he’d grow up already. Guess not.

I’m with Dr. Scarpetta! I will not let ideological purity get in the way of preventing the total destruction of this country via a Zero second term.

I suggest you come back when you can show me where Reagan was an multiple term elected Democrat.

Reagan campaigned for Goldwater and spent years advocating conservative causes.
