Aw, you are still online....I just got back from a wedding and was going to check. Shirttail relatives in the Virgina Beach area lost power at 10:30 this morning. They are on a river and before high tide it is already over their wall. Crunch time for them.

(THis won’t count as a “Geraldo Worthy Storm” until the lights go out in Times Square

But all kidding aside...I do pray all of you in harms way, are both prepared, and safe...

This over drama coverage can bite the DBM in the butt for the next storm if they overhype this one.Especially if and little or nothing happens. No one will pay attention to them next time which could be a huge problem.

There are currently a huge number of people without power. This storm is already a mess.

Actually a 16 mph forward speed is anything but slow for storm movement. Slow would be 3-5 mph or stalled as they sometimes do.

The sad part is...Obammy and his idiots in DC, do not have the first CLUE about what to do in the event of a catastrophy...let alone a major power outage.....Hell, Im not a conspiracy theorist, but I see that idiots reaction as being declaring Martial Law (or is it Marshall?)...In any case...we are being “led” by NINCOMPOOPS!!! Thank GOD the American people have the gut instinct to know what to do, and not wait for some idiot in DC to make a speech! (spit)
GOD be with all of you in harms way....ANd thank you NauttNurse for this invaluable thread....(and thanks even more for understanding that people under stress, need a place to vent, as well as be close to FRiends, too ;-)

We took our kids to City Island years ago — for sailing lessons. You are right. Once you cross that bridge, you are in a totally different place, removed from NYC — but still in NYC! Nice place.

“How high are you above the ocean? The estimates are for 5-9 foot storm surge. If that happens, much of lower Manhattan could get flooded.”

Parts of my island will definitely flood. Lower Manhattan, WTC area - will flood.

Thanks much. We have an escape plan and, if the report I just saw on the news is correct, we may have to use it.

It looks increasingly extra-tropical. Not much of an eyewall at all.

Is that a good thing?

Sorry, I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to hurricanes. Last one I remember up here was Gloria in 1985. Now snow and ice storms, on the other hand... ;-)

I've been told the weight of three trees that had to be lifted off people's houses. The figure I remember was seven tons; I believe that was the heaviest of the three.

A big tree will pretty much go where it wants to go -- and whenever it wants to. It's no crime to cut them down.

nutmeg, I dont need your excuse to open a bottle of wine & enjoy.

I opened one from a winery I visited in Wisconsin a few weeks ago.. marvelous place.. called vonStiehl winery in Algoma WI. It is a blueberry & one of the best wines I think I have ever had. Cant wait to return there with more $$$..they have some amazing wines.

stay safe girlfriend. I am about ready to crash & will close my eyes with prayers of safety for those in the path.
