We'd be happy to send you some.

The SIL lives just north of Austin and says that everything is dead or dying. She is even worried about losing her trees. The grass is a goner.

>>Don’t forget the topload washing machine. They can hold a
‘few’ gallons for nonpotable water!

Wow, what a great suggestion. I’ve never heard that one before, will have to try it. Good for flushing...

I really hope that's all you need!

Check back with us on Sunday morning, OK?
If you have power.

I know you Yankee's don't get many Cat 1s and 2s up there over land, and millions of people are praying real hard that you don't endure one tomorrow night...
It'd not just the measured sustained winds and rain danger, it's the damnable sporadic tornadoes that strike, if Irene doesn't shift east.
At least fill your bathtubs with water...we won't tell anyone!

I'm pretty much prepared for the storm. I always keeps a good supply of water ...and other stuff if things really get bad. It is the economic storm I am not prepared for. I am 64 and have never own a gun.
Seems like there are too many reasons not to own gun.

Guns can be addictive. Fun, but addictive.

In Union County, New Jersey (Scotch Plains area). Have 7 gallons of gas in gas tanks, canned goods, generator, first aid kits, ice, .357 S&W and ammo. Am I missing something?

Doh! I forgot to add:

Most washers have a safety catch to where it will only operate with the lid down. Newer models won’t even start the water if the lid is up.

Give it your best McGyver.

We appreciate the prayers! We don’t get many hurricanes, that’s for sure, but most of us rural folk are generally pretty well conditioned for being prep’ed from ice storms and blizzards and such.

It’s the city denizens that worry me. They are generally not prepared to walk across the street, without government assistance.

Regardind Generator use:

If yours is capable of providing 208/220 volts of power:

When a big Ice storm hit back in western NY many years back and power was out, I cut the power line to the furnace and installed an electrical plug to it so it could run off the generator.

This can be done for your central A/C unit also. Check the outlets on your generator and head to the hardware store for a compatable extension cord(s) and a plug to attach to your A/C unit.

Today on the NC/VA border I passed a caravan of cherry pickers and electric company trucks heading for the coast.

Our has the safety catch, but will fill up even with the lid up. I did laundry last night (storm prep’ing) and was down there cleaning up my wood shop (in case we get water in the basement) and forgot to put the lid back down. Heard the machine stop and thought, wth? Doh, forgot the lid! :D

Thanks again, that is a good tip.

I stocked up on Sam Adams Oktoberfest. I may have to go without the main power for a few days and have to rely on a little generator, but it keeps the beer in the fridge cold. That’ll help when the warm weather returns and the cleanup begins.

Alot of the interior areas and utilities from major cities not affected are ready to go. Pines that are 40+ years will be dropping like flies.

I can't stand it. Bloomberg is acting as if there never was a hurricane in NYC before. The hysteria is unbelievable.

As for myself, I'm hoping they won't cancel racing in Saratoga on Sunday.
