Rasmussen : Perry 44% Obama 41%; Pres Leads Other GOP by single digits.
Rasmussen Reports ^ | rasmussen

Posted on 09/01/2011 5:50:00 AM PDT by sunmars

For the first time this year, Texas Governor Rick Perry leads President Obama in a national Election 2012 survey. Other Republican candidates trail the president by single digits.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows Perry picking up 44% of the vote while the president earns support from 41%. Given the margin of sampling error (+/- 3 percentage points) and the fact that the election is more than a year away, the race between the two men is effectively a toss-up. Just over a week ago, the president held a three-point advantage over Perry. (To see question wording, click here.)

Perry leads by nine among men but trails by five among women. Among voters under 30, the president leads while Perry has the edge among those over 30. The president leads Perry by 16 percentage points among union members while Perry leads among those who do not belong to a union.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney currently trails the president by four percentage points, 43% to 39%. That’s a slight improvement for the Republican compared to a week ago. Earlier in the year, Romney held a one-point edge when matched against the president. Prior to today’s release, that was the only time a named Republican has held any kind of lead over President Obama. A Generic Republican currently leads the president 48% to 40%.

If Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is the GOP candidate, the president leads 46% to 38%. Unlike Perry and Romney, Bachmann’s numbers are a bit weaker now than they were a week ago.

Finally, if the Republicans were to nominate businessman Herman Cain, President Obama would attract 42% of the vote to Cain’s 35%.

Hopefully, the gap just widens going forward.

I like Perry and hope it does too but you know what this means. The MSM is going to go into "panic" mode just like they did when they saw how popular Palin was and are going to just start pounding Perry over and over and over for the next year. We saw with the MSM's treatment of the Tea Party that it doesn't matter whether the MSM lies or not, the charges stick and the Tea Party's reputation has been damaged as "extreme" and "racist." Same with Sarah Palin--90%+ of the criticism of her is unfair but the MSM has damaged her reputation and blunted her popularity. Now they will try to do it to Perry.

What the pollsters won’t tell you is this means Obama is almost guaranteed to lose.

If Perry can lead while the primary is still ongoing (i.e. fractured support) means that he will pull away once the nomination is his... and the entire Republican party coalesces around him.

Right now it’s split between camps so you get some Romney supporters and/or Bachmann backers who are polled saying they won’t vote for Perry etc.

I think women went for 0zer0 in 08 by 56%. Clearly it was a vote based upon nothing more than emotion and a total disconnect from reality (along with a zombie pubbie candidate).

I saw another poll yesterday that said their support had dropped to 41%. How they chose the Kenyan by 5% over Perry is a mystery. Possibly women in general are just so disengaged they reflexively go with the familiar name.

Interesting that Cain is polling better than Bachmann.

"What makes you so confident that we’ll put another Texan in the White House so soon after Bush?"

I'm not. Republicans can always somehow manage to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. But the experience of most Americans with the most recent Texan was about a bazillion tiles better than with the most recent Illinoisan (or Hawaiian or whatever).

Before Perry got in the race, Mitt made the BIG mistake of acting likes he was already the presumptive candidate..he focused his attacks on Obama..Be interesting to see if Perry does the same thing...or not

some of the peripheral conservatives need to drop out

I wish Palin would jump in. The more MSM lighting rods out there the less effective their strikes will be. The candidates that can stir emotional outbursts on the left are very valuable. Later Palin would make an excellent hired gun to shoot and gut some federal beast.

What makes you so confident that we’ll put another Texan in the White House so soon after Bush?

Because perhaps the American public are realizing Bush wasn’t as bad a the media was making him out to be.

Perry's status as a Texan?

I know for a fact that his family has lived in my county for over 100 years. FACT.

I know both of his parents, and grew up 15 miles from them.

But I have never met Rick Perry.

Is he a perfect candidate? No.

But he is definitely a “natural born” U.S. Citizen, a “natural born” Texan, and an American Patriot.

FUBO! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

And we are going to trail you to the ends of the earth. My dream job at this point would be to help investigate, charge, prosecute, convict and sentence those who helped you destroy this great nation.

This Texan has gone and convinced businesses to move to Texas. Some of them were American businesses originally and moved overseas and have been brought back to America. This is what we’ll see with Perry. I am sure you’d see it with Palin also [but she hasn’t declared yet], however, Perry has been at this for 10 years.

I didn’t think the Bushes were so much “Texan” as the were Northeastern Transplants.

See below. I’d like to see all but the 1st tier disappear, but I’ll settle for 3rd tier and below skeedaddling. All they do is divide the conservative vote.

1. First Tier
Rick Perry
Mitt Romney
Michele Bachmann

2. 2nd Tier
Herman Cain
Ron Paul

3. 3rd Tier
Newt Gingrich
Rick Santorum
Jon Huntsman, Jr.

4. 4th Tier
Thaddeus McCotter
Buddy Roemer
Gary Johnson

5. Alternate Universe Tier
Fred Karger
Andy Martin
Jimmy McMillan
Jonathon Sharkey

Because if the election were held today, I think Bush would beat Obama.

Yes, I suspect they will. And that's why I like Perry over Palin, because he's no victim. Palin has held her own among conservatives, but out there in the 'mainstream' she's un-electable now. Perry won't be perceived as a victim, partially because he's a man, but also because he's got that 'Marlboro' man swagger. And, he's a ruthless campaigner--he's smart and quick on the draw when trying to be set up. Did you see him respond to that sick-o leftist mother using her son to ask him questions about evolution a few weeks ago. He turned it on her. Katie Couric, Matt Lauer and their 'ilk' will not be able to make Perry look stupid in a one-on-one. And you can bet that in a debate with Obama, he'll have Barry wishing he'd never left Kenya. Perry will come out swinging, will dodge all the rhetorical punches and will likely deliver a knock-out for America. I know he's not perfect, but then no candidate is. But he's got the one (main) thing we need in a Republican candidate: CAJONES!!!!

Was that in the 30 minute or so statement the CEO of Gibson made after the raid? I hadn’t heard anything about the clown prince pushing Gibson to relocate manufacturing to Madagascar.

If that’s the case, the pubbie candidates need to hit this hard and heavy especially at the debate on the 7th.

Texas Fossil, the Perry’s seem like a middle class, religious, American family. Is that the same with his parents?

They will disappear in time. There is no rush as of now. If it gets to December and January and they are all still there, then we have a problem.
