Advice on dealing with child protective services
My brain | 9-11-11 | Bugswol

Posted on 09/11/2011 5:00:12 PM PDT by BUGSWOL

My girlfriend has a friend in Washington State, who is a bit odd, Christian, home school type. While they are not not the normal standard people the government would like us to me, she assures me that they are in fact good people who love their children. The also adopted a couple of children from Ethiopia. One of those children died under strange circumstances, so naturally it was investigated. That is perfectly understandable.

It turns out that the child had some sort of tropical malady that led to rapid weight loss loss, erratic behavior and an untimely death. Now this is where it gets bad. Despite the death being ruled to have been the result of natural causes, their other children have been removed form the home and kept form the parents by child protective services. These children who have been home schooled their entire lives and fed on a diet of healthy natural foods are now in foster homes being fed junk and sent to public schools. The children were tested before enrollment and all of them tested at least 3 grade levels above their chronological age. Sounds like some awful parents doesn't it.

Now they have been told by their court appointed lawyers not to say a word or make waves of any kind even though they are regularly being slandered in the press there.

I am chomping at the bit to post some of the articles here and encourage freepers to let the CPS working in Washington State know what we think, but my girlfriend says no, because they haven't asked. I am of the opinion that if we sit on our hands their kids will just quietly be taken away permanently and they will move on to taking kids away from parents who do other odd things like vote Republican and believe in God.

But what was she doing in the backyard all night? If I were you, frankly, I’d stay out of this one.

No, don’t! In many states that is now a felony, and they would lose the kids for good.

It is legal to record public officials in the state of Washington with or without their knowledge.

it is bloody nauseating that some bureaucrat who doesn’t care about anybody but his paycheck can do anything remotely similar to this.

You don’t have to repeat messages three times or YELL. We can hear you.
And, some free advice to you newbie, don’t liken me to those aligned with Janet Reno. Take a look at my FReepage. And, besides you do sound like a troll.

Do you have any way to verify that “the coroner changed his finding”? Or are you basing this statement solely on what the parents told you?

Nicest lawyers ever:

http://www.christianlaw.org/cla/

Their homeschool law site:

http://homeschoollegaladvantage.com/

Founder and president of CLA is David Gibbs, who represented the Schindlers in the Terri Schiavo controversy.

Don’t worry that they are located in FL, they will help if they can.

Have them immediately seek legal help from the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). This is all they do, they do it well, and last I heard they’ve never lost a case (over decades of work).

If that doesn’t help, try the Rutherford Institute or the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ). Just their type of case.

I apologize for the double post. That was an accident. Computer was running slow and I clicked twice thinking the fist click didn’t take.

I will not apologize for yelling. You just seemed to be refusing to acknowledge what I had stated multiple times that yes the news paper reported the hypothermia but that finding was changed. Had it not changed they would have been charged with manslaughter. The media did not report the change. Why is that so difficult for you to understand!

Why are you so ready to simply swollow as gospel truth what the media says?

The more I read about this case, the more I really do think you should stay out of it. This little girl left Ethiopa in 2008? At around the age of 10? And between that time and her death, she lost 30 lbs? Even if that wasn't the adoptive parents fault, they must have known that it is not normal for a child that age to be losing weight instead of gaining it. And again, why was she outside in the rain, in temperatures not much above freezing, if she was sick (from whatever cause?) And how is it that she had a tropical disease from Ethiopia when she'd left it years ago? And what's this business about some people named Pearl who wrote a book on child-raising that has been implicated in the deaths of two other adoptive children recently? And at least one person claiming to have known your friend says they were indeed proponents of this Pearl method?

Taken together, this does not sound like a good place for a well-meaning outsider to stick his nose in. I'd step back and let CPS do their job. They aren't always wrong.

It turns out that the child had some sort of tropical malady that led to rapid weight loss loss, erratic behavior and an untimely death.

so did they bother to take the kid to the doctor?

My grandchildren are home schooled, and I think it's great.

but "home schooling" can sometimes be the way for people to abuse their kids by keeping them on wierd diets, no medicine, no shots etc...

I've also called child protective services to check the home when I found the father to be paranoid, yelling at his wife in my office, and the eight year old appeared frightened of the father. And I'd do it again.

Yes, I've seen abuse by child protective services, but I've seen kids abused and killed by mom, mom's boyfriend, dad etc...

I can’t get an answer to why a little girl who’d just dropped a third of her body weight was outside all night in the wind and rain.

The County Coroner was the source of the “news” about hypothermia being the cause of death. So far you haven’t provided any source whatsoever that the “cause of death” has been revised. Give us some substance to what you assert, or shut up.
By the way, was the cause of death?
Oh, and I guess I’ll await your “apology” on the Janet Reno reference.

And the fact that they have not been charged with manslaughter means that they have not YET been charged. Caylee Anthony disappeared in July. Casey wasn’t charged with anything till October. The poster who made the comment about opening up a Red Flag store with this wasn’t far off.

Ok you got me. I don’t have any proof other than the that is what the parents said and they are not in jail where they would be if the coroner had not changed his opinion.

If a tree falls in the forrest and the Liberal media does not report on it was it still caused by global warming?

You are doing your part to impeach my sources the parents. Let me ask you about your sources the Liberal media.

Have they ever shown an anti-Christian bias?

Have they ever shown an animosity toward people who choose to opt out of government schools?

Is it possible that they would not report on some facts that did not further their agenda?

You see that is one of the great things about the internet. It allows us to get points of view and perspectives that otherwise would be concealed from us.

You know what? Until you can tell us WHAT she died of and WHY she was out in the cold and rain all night and IF they knew she was sick or IF she was under a doctor’s care, you really have no business, newbie, coming here and calling out Freepers for daring to disbelieve you.

From my experience, it is very difficult to get CPS to act in a case of suspected child abuse/neglect in the state of Washington.
The fact that they did do something in this case, makes me think that there is some validity in this case.
Sorry, I am going to support CPS on this one.
