Perry's adrenaline-packed new ad
Politico ^ | September 21, 2011 | JAMES HOHMANN

“PROVEN LEADERSHIP” – PERRY’S NEW AD: Rick Perry’s campaign is launching an epic new bio spot today. The first 40 seconds attack “PRESIDENT ZERO,” juxtaposing eerie images of national stagnation with footage of Barack Obama taking responsibility for the economy. A tornado siren playing over the president’s voice creates a palpable sense of alarm. The last minute of the web ad introduces Perry as a job creator and veteran who believes America’s best days are ahead, rotating sunny images of the country at its best with footage from the Texas governor’s announcement speech. Lucas Baiano, who produced the spot, has signed on with Perry after working for Tim Pawlenty. Watch it: HERE.

Thank you, I remember 1988 very well. With all due respect to Zell Miller, he did earn the moniker of “Zig-Zag” for a reason, and that being he was all over the map. First he was Conservative, then he was a liberal, then he was Conservative again. While he was “fine” when he went to the right, he was hardly a stable element. Unlike in Texas, the Georgia Democrat party was close to 2 decades away from collapsing. Perry jumped ship just as it was sinking, and that was pure, unadulterated opportunism. If the TX GOP were at the same point in 1988 as the GA GOP was (or the TN GOP, which was dead, and had been since after Watergate until 1994), Perry would’ve remained a Democrat for a long, long time to come. He could’ve just as effortlessly been Clinton in ‘92 (or his running mate) or Gore 2000.

I expect that kind of flipflopping and opportunism in the Democrat party, but I don’t trust those that come over to the GOP, especially when they still cling to their same behaviors and actions. This guy is no reformist and no small-government type. He’s just another establishment pol we see in both parties. He’s fine with talking tough at election time, just like Gore’s “Conservative” schtick, but yet it just doesn’t match the walk. You see why many of us remain thoroughly unimpressed.

Perrybots have not an ounce of compunction at blithely rewriting Perry's history.....a history that is totally disconnected from reality.

Shhhhh......we peons are not supposed to notice that.

WORKED SO WELL IN TEXAS Here's the calculated and organized patented Perry MO ----no matter what the polls say, no matter what the headlines are, Perry alone is "the winner," "ahead," "unbeatable," "loudly applauded," "universally praised," etc, etc, etc.

One Perrydactyly posted a FR article that paints Perry as a "favorite" of the Tea Party..... yet it links to an article that says Tea Party leaders are unhappy with Perry. Remember that Perry was loudly booed at the Tea Party Debate on the issue of immigration.

All the Perrydactyl's seem trained in Perry's door-to-door-salesman approach: "say one thing, then do the exact opposite."

-- I notice you follow me around and post against the truth on numerous threads.
But you are tiresome and tiring. You are old, worn out, rung out, dry. Not you but your tiresome falsehoods.
I count you with the worst of the worst we have here, because of what I see repeated and repeated, right in league with the meanest, lowdown prevaricators and vilest language talkers, who wouldn't care about the truth if their grandmother's lives hung in the balance on it. Because that's who you aligned yourself with.

What you have demonstrated here is a case of projection.

We all make our own reputations here, by our posts.
That includes me, and it includes you, too.

Not by me it isn’t. I make an effort to mostly stay off these threads because of the vitriol and pointless arguments. For example, you argued with the AM about whether or not Perry voted for Reagan. You claim logic dictates he didn’t vote for Reagan. The back and forth went on for several posts. And what was the point? All you had to do was look it up. I did. And if you try you can find evidence that Perry supported Reagan from way back before he declared his candidacy. It’s not a new revelation.

Unlike in Texas, the Georgia Democrat party was close to 2 decades away from collapsing. Perry jumped ship just as it was sinking,

Democrats were winning majorities for many years to come in Texas.

http://cake.la.utexas.edu//txp_media/html/part/features/0400_02/slide1.html

Even as Republicans made electoral gains in statewide races they failed to win more than a handful of elections to the US House. Only after the controversial redistricting effort undertaken by the Republican-controlled Texas legislature in 2003 did the GOP finally overtake the Democrats by winning seventeen seats to the Democrats' sixteen.

I don’t trust those that come over to the GOP

We will just pass over the obvious examples. Texas had several of them besides Perry or those in California.

I do agree Perry is a political animal and based on that alone not to be trusted too deeply.

Let them go ahead and use the RINO label over and over and over again — pretty soon the term will be rendered useless. Actually, I think it already is.

The RINO label became useless for me once they started pinning it on Rick Perry. Hey, if Rick Perry is a RINO, then call me a RINO too!

In Texas we have millions of Hispanics whose families have been here for generations. They don’t even know when anybody came from somewhere else to Texas, their family here goes back so far into the dim mists of record or memory. They join the military in droves and have died in all of our wars. They are dying today in Afghanistan. But no, they won’t trigger an automatic investigation into them if they try to enroll in college after high school. Perish the thought, how terrible of RINO Texas. This law passed both Texas legislative bodies with almost zero opposition.

LOL is that absurd. Whatever long time Hispanics you have there are vastly outnumbered by the illegal alien Mexican invaders of the last 10-20-30 years. The older Hispanics will complain about being swamped in Texas by the new illegal alien border jumpers
New Mexico has quite a few Hispanics who have been there for 150+ years but they too are vastly out numbered by the illegal alien hordes of the last few decades

Perry’s comments:

“I stand with Israel”
“It is a great honor to be in the presence of the Imam of 16 million Muslims around the world, a global humanitarian leader, a man of peace with a pluralistic vision for people around the world, His Highness, the Aga Khan, the 49th Hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims.

“As a Christian I stand with Israel.”
“We are delighted to welcome you to the Lone Star State and participate in the celebration of your Golden Jubilee.” (Talking to Muslim Cleric Aga Khan)

What the Bible says about “welcoming” Muslims.
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8-9

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Re: the definition of rationality - I appreciate your posting that as well.

First, an apology and clarification. The barbed aspect of my comment was not aimed at you or your handling of these discussions - I should have expressed it more clearly and precisely.

My concern was with definitions 1. & 2. As for 1. the state or quality of being rational and 2. the possession of reason, both definitions are inherently linked to considerations of the manner in which facts, data and logic are used, or ‘manipulated’, so to speak, hence my references to both rationalization and sophistry.

These threads and discussions are replete with both types of errors and deceits. The rationalizers tend to err mainly through excessive emotional zeal, inaccurate information and sloppy, fallacious logic or ‘reasoning’.

The sophists, on the other hand, know exactly what they’re doing. Like the ancient Greek Sophists, they use valid facts and carefully parsed logic, but twist, mischaracterize and/or redact and misapply them in order to make a deceptive but logically persuasive and ‘reasonable’ sounding argument. These are the ‘operative’ types who post thread after thread of tightly-focused, talking-point articles and comments. After a while, the banal sameness becomes amusing, which is what prompted my comment.

People on these threads aren’t interested in the facts. They’re Keyboard Kommandos who sit in front of their screens spewing vitriol and making crude jokes they consider very macho (spelling Boehner as Boner, for example), and most of them don’t even bother to read the article that the thread ostensibly concerns. In fact, I bet some of the people who are foaming at the mouth here didn’t even bother to watch this video.

I rarely participate in these threads either. It’s not worth it.

At first I went on a campaign to raise the level of discourse on these threads. I hoped we could discuss the issues and properly vet the candidates. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a foolishly naive goal.

In reviewing my posts in this thread, I discovered my first response to you was misdirected and should have been directed to Cincinatus’ Wife. I deliberately used “rationality” to imply the loss of the ability to reason and falling into an emotional state.
