Sarah Palin: Being president could ‘shackle’ me
Yahoo News, The Ticket ^ | 9/28/2011 | Rachel Rose Hartman

Sarah Palin certainly didn't sound interested in running for president last night.

"Is a title worth it-- does a title shackle a person?" the former Alaska governor asked during a discussion of her 2012 plans with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "Someone like me, who's maverick--you know I do 'go rogue' and I call it like I see it and I don't mind stirring it up ... [for] somebody like me, is a title and is a campaign too shackling?"

"Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to effect positive change that we need in this country? That's the biggest contemplation piece in my [decision] process," Palin said.

Palin said Tuesday that time is running out. Filing deadlines, requiring candidates to register to appear on state presidential primary ballots, are approaching in several states.

Bolton is a neocon and GOP prezs don't give the SoS job to neocons. SoS job always goes to realists. Rice, Powell, Baker, Schultz, Haig, Kissinger, Kissinger.

SecDef job goes to a neocon. Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wineberger, Rumsfeld.

"Palin isn’t panning out."

Don't go for the head fake (she's a basketball player) - the deception is not aimed at us, she's on our team.

These quotes, even moreso than the Christie quotes, are like a conservative Rorschach Test.

She’s on the team.

She’s just not the captain you are looking for.

I've seen many of you guys on so many threads being mocking to Gov. Palin. It really does make me so sad.

Here is a woman who stepped up to help the GOP out when asked. Trust me, they needed her help more than she needed them. After McCain lost the race, and she was back in Alaska, where was the GOP? She is getting smacked with lawsuit after lawsuit after the national election, ie helping the GOP, where were they? I'll tell you where McCain was. He was on Leno MOCKING Sarah Palin.

She worked tirelessly on the 2010 campaign, while Rove was stabbing us in the back. Of course the elites in the GOP were piling on too. Babara Bush, She needs to stay in Alaska etc.

Sarah Palin owes me nothing, I on the other hand, owe her alot. She has really opened my eyes to the GOP and who they really are.

The crap she has had to put up with from the left was bad enough, but to have the party you are helping stab you in the back......WOW.

I hope she decided to run, and I think she will. If not I will vote for a conservative. That's it. Cain or Bachmann. If you guys want to disagree with policy fine, but honestly this mocking, you should be ashamed of yourself.

After she used the "shackling" reference she immediately talked about her experience as the VP candidate with handlers, advisers, etc, etc.

Sad, real thinkers used to frequent FR. Not so much any more.

Well I'd say it is unclear whether we're “head faking” ourselves at this point. Wishful thinking doesn't make something so. And “deception” to what end? It matters little if her enemies think she's running or not. They've already thrown everything they've got at her. What matters is her supporters and deceiving them does not help her or our cause. It is easy to rationalize inconvenient details to provide hope where there may be little. I think we're flirting on that edge right now.

A bit like Obama in 2008. People saw what they wanted to see. Never mind the details.

It doesn’t make much sense.

If she’s running for the top spot, her “handlers” work for her, not the other way around.

If Romney is successful in conniving his way to the nomination I'm not one to speculate as to what JimRob's reaction will be inre to 'positive' posts about Romney. I assert now I'll never vote for him, as many others do, but once inside the voting cubicle one will have to make a difficult decision. At some point we on the Right have to maybe say, 'enough is fecking enough!, if a two-faced cur like Romney gets the nod he will not get our support. Republic be damned and God help us!'.

The prescient warning from Ben Franklin appears to be bearing fruit.

I know it’s tempting to give in to cynicism but I can feel it in the air that history is about to be made, in the coming elections for POTUS. My words might sound a trifle dramatic now but when it actually happens, it will all seem so natural that we might end up wondering what the fuss was all about. So keep the faith.

Golly Geez Grizzly Bears why would you write in anyone that doesn’t want to be President?

When someone says being POTUS is like being shackled I can’t believe they have my Country’s best interest at their core.

I think Sarah has gotten a taste of the Good Life and likes the money, attention and glamor.

Gone and soon forgotten.

I often wonder who is home with the kids?

“Citizen Palin would be infinitely less effective than President Palin...”

Sarah and I seem to have mostly similar policy positions, but her personality is starting to bug me.

In politics, titles empower.
It’s the mind which shackles.

Constantly reminding people about how rogue-y and maverick-y she views herself does not help her cause in my mind. Her ex, McCain, has done the same for decades.

Doers do things. And leave the judging of style to the observer of things done. And undone.

I’m not entirely clear on when roguish behavior became a virtue or accomplishment in and of itself. But I’ve seen the videos of when an elephant goes rogue. Lots of stuff happens. None of it good.

The rogue-iest mom in Wasilla might stomp on an occasional zoo keeper, but she ain’t gonna veto an increase in my taxes. While even the most traditional/insider/establishment/shackle-y titled Republican candidates have promised that and much more.

Primary season is the time when we encourage CANDIDATES to behave differently than incumbents. You got a new idea? Get up on the dang stage with the rest of the mavericks and mavens and let’s hear your pitch. If you or your ideas can’t stand the competition then, go ahead, start crashing through huts and squishing villagers. Reality TV always has room for another rogue.

Well said.

There is no valid reason for this incessant vitriol against Sarah Palin by some posters.

According to the resident concern trolls, the time is way past for Sarah to get in. But, gee, I don’t see the same criticism of Gov. Christie now that he is “reconsidering” whether to run or not.
