Rick Perry’s Texas hunting spot's racially charged name lingered. [Wabbit season! Troll season!]

Paint Creek, Tex. — In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.

“Niggerhead,” it read.

The name of this particular parcel did not change for years after it became associated with Rick Perry, first as a private citizen, then as a state official and finally as Texas governor.

"Perry’s father painted over offensive language on a rock soon after leasing the 1,000-acre parcel in the early 1980s..."

...and to further soothe any hard feelings, young Rick Perry then had a long and heartfelt conversation with the rock.

I am absolutely NOT a perry guy but this is just bullshit.

His parents bought into a hunting camp almost 30 years ago, that had a rock with the words "Nigger Head" on it and they painted over the rock.

Perry had nothing to do with it.

This is just the wapo going after a pubbie, and using the most vile, despicable tactics that are available.

The more they lefties pound this guy, the more they are going to drive conservatives over to him.

I was wondering when somebody would point out the obvious. Mt. McKinley, Squaw thisandthat, Dead Indian Soda Springs are names that have been/soon to be replaced with PC correct names...and don't forget the ongoing mascot name changing.

Who is it that Rick Perry calls "heartless"??

He has more in common with RINO's than conservatives.

Can anyone think of other examples?

The Fighting Sioux team name and mascot comes to mind as one of thousands.

Squaw Peak in Arizona was renamed for a woman who was the first Indian to be killed in Iraq. I had no problem with them naming a highway after her, but they changed the name of Squaw Peak because it was supposedly “offensive” to the indians. Everyone still calls it Squaw Peak.

So, somehow our intrepid media was able to find some obscure rock out in the middle of the Texas prairie but they still can't dig up Urkel's college records or any work he did as Editor of The Harvard Review or Highlights or whatever he was Editor of.

Good work, Media! You da mans!

If Romney couldn’t beat McCain, and McCain couldn’t beat Zero, what does that tell you about why the media is pushing Romney ?

Go Herman !

Well ... the paint keeps coming off. If Rick had any common sense , being a Gov of Texas and all the great hunting places , he should have found somewhere else.

Hey Moses, try shoving your staff, you troll, and I don't even like perry.

I am familiar with the cathead term for winches..ships gear too and some cranes and cherry picker mechanicals

the only way I ever heard nigger used was as a directed derogatory except for junior high slaughterball which on occasion was called something incorporating that term

forced busing Christmas of 1969 sorta put a damper on that one..lol..in a town back then 40% black...now it's 85% black

truth be told to youngsters, the term nigger is more used today than in the waning days of Jimmy Crow in which I was reared

back then blacks rarely used it except for stern admonishment and white use was relegated to country folk and white trash ..usually a class distinction use...middle and upper class whites would never have said nigger in public...that might have said nigra in the home...but that faded by early 80s too even in the Delta

now blacks use it all the time as do many whites often directed at each other, and it's the tone that infers the distaste more than anything

I only use it if very angry..like fighting time if a person of color used such language on me..those days are long gone btw..9 years ago was last fight and with a young “cracker”...my daddy whipped me for saying nigger as a boy...we had hundreds working for us and he thought it disrespectful..and it was..shame no one cares anymore

the heightened use of the term nigger is as indicative of the coarsening of the culture as much as illegitimacy and the pervasiveness of pornography

This from a media that downplayed years of Obama befriending Jeremiah Wright.

“Niggerhead” was, among others:
A former British term for a black iron post for mooring ships, made from an old cannon partially buried muzzle upward, with a slightly oversize black cannonball covering the hole.
A former sailors’ term for an isolated coral head, notorious as navigation hazards.
Among some American stonemasons, a term for a large smoothly rounded stone.
An antiquated term for a large round rock sticking up from the surface of a logging road, used by loggers and log truck drivers in the Pacific Northwest.
An old U.S. Navy term for a small winch, a Capstan.
A coal miner’s term for blackish iron disulfide nodular rock occurring at the top of the coal seams, often visible in coal mine roofs. Because of their density, they can fall from the roofs, injuring or killing the miners below.
An archaic term for the striking weight on a pile driver.
A term for a steam manifold, fountain, turret or header on a boiler, particularly that of a locomotive.

There is an old family in this area known by the surname of Whitehead. I think they should change their name!

***I have camped in Nigger Bill canyon out in Utah.***

I camped in “Negro” Bill mesa on the San Juan River, NM. But that’s not what the locals call it.

I remember 40 years ago when the US government changed many names of local areas. One magazine made a real joke showing the new names.

Whorehouse Meadows became Naughty Girl meadows.

Bull$#!t Springs became Bull Shirt Springs.
