Herman Cain may be the front-runner in the polls but he is way, way behind in the funds.
Last night on Erin Burnett's show Cain revealed he only has a several hundred thousand dollars in the bank.
Yes, several hundred thousand.
"For the quarter, we will report, first of all, no debt. You see, I run this very tight, like a start-up business, because that's my nature as a businessman. And we are going to have -- we will report at the end of the quarter several hundred thousand dollars in cash on handled.
Within the last week or so, our fund-raising has really picked up a lot, because of the response of the public. And so, I don't know what that number is. I just know that it is going to be very, very respectable."
Compare that to Romney's $14 million or Perry's $18 million and regardless of how much fundraising picks up it is an enormous gap to bridge. Too enormous?

February is too late.
Iowa and New Hampshire will be over by then. Cain has to show well in both those states to stay in till his folks in the South can vote.
Perhaps, but Solyndra is only the tip of the iceberg. There was clearly massive amounts of foreign money going into O’s campaign in ‘08, but was hidden (like most things in the cypher’s life) behind arcane reporting rules.
I would really like to send him $999 dollars, but I can’t afford it.
Most Americans believe the hype from the media that money is King, Queen & God in politics. And....yes......it has it’s place and is needed. But....Cain, like Reagan, has the magic touch, street smart, great character, focus and a man come from the people. Cain is funny, loyal, and....most smart folks realize he, like Reagan, is a game changer in two distinct ways. Number one he thinks out of the box and could care less what the Establishment thinks or says. Number two, he can be the savior and catalyst for true equality, opportunity & freedom!!! This man will make serious inroads into game changing the attitudes of millions of folks of color. Mr. Cain just might be the dude that brings this nation together for good!!! He has my vote and support!!! And.....if Art Laffer and Paul Ryan say 9-9-9 is basically OK, that is just peachy with me!!! Onward, Mr. Cain, & God bless you. Your country needs you more then you will ever know!!!
RE: It seems to me in this day and age of the Internet, you can get your message out without having to spend a ton of money.
The IRONY of our age is we have faster communication, better information dissemination, great technology to receive knowledge, YET, we have just as many if not MORE ignorant people.
Why? BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE JUST PLAIN LAZY. They’d rather be spoonfed information.
We have better eduational facilities here in the USA but our kids aren’t any better educated than those in say, China.
They don’t want to go through the rigours of thinking about the ramifications of say, the 9-9-9 plan. Instead, they prefer the 30 second sound byte.
*THAT* is why it is very expensive to run a campaign.
IT COSTS MORE to pay for an effective 30 second (even if deceptive) sound byte.
Money in the campaign coffers = Guaranteed win....purely a myth. Maybe there was a time, and I do understand the value of $$$ for purchasing airtime, flyers, signs, etc...but in this day and age of the Internet and thousands of media outlets, it isn’t nearly as difficult to get in front of people and get your message out as it used to be.
The debates are key; you learn a lot about how someone can (or cannot) think on their feet; their spontaneity; their personality, etc. They, so far, have helped Cain immensely because he’s the real deal. Unlike some of the others, he isn’t just spouting what he THINKS people want to hear (if you try that, you have to reach for every thought, every word, every nuance...and it shows). No, he clearly speaks from the heart and with real conviction.
That...trumps a fat bank account any day.
I agree. At least they’re on it now.
It never fails to amaze me how many mailings we get from candidates which go straight to the trash. That has to cost a small fortune for a national mailing. That alone could probably be eliminated.
With the internet, I think Cain can run a campaign that will end up changing the basics of campaigning. As another said, it’s amazing what he’s accomplished with minimal funding.
Money didn’t help steve forbes or meg whitman.
Money is important, but its not everything.

How about breaking $9 dollars into three weekly installments ? :)
BTTT for an excellent post!
See my tagline :)
There are idiots like my sister out there who only know what they see on TV. Ads are enormously expensive plus bumper stickers and yard signs. The things Cain needs for name recognition.
Or, if you’re a Democrat, you need a few mil to pay the homeless, crooks, and illegals to vote. You also have to pay off organizations like Acorn to flood the voter rolls with fake registrations. The list goes on.
You make a very good point, keep pounding that drum.
Nontheless, I just added a couple of bucks to his meager bank account.
The Tea Party was successful in '10 because it wasn't a winner-take-all race, and the MSM couldn't affect all of the local races. But in a winner-take-all race, fighting the Establishment and the MSM at the national level is a very difficult task.
Several hundred dollars?? I find that very refreshing. He is moving on his merits not his financing.
Cain is ahead by double digits, he is no Huckabee.
I did worry a week or two ago about that possibility, but now that he is polling 30% + he’s got this in the bag, since Romney can’t pull in more than 25% and ususally lower.
I guess I’ll have to pony-up the cash before then, then. Thanks for letting me know.
And, there are a TON of debates still to come, there are a total of over 20+ debates, which should help Cain a lot since he does well in them.
every American needs to send him $9.99 :P
