Herman Cain: Electrify the Border Fence

Doug Powers

October 15, 2011

It’s now a “9999plan: 9 percent personal income tax, 9 percent national sales tax, 9 percent business tax, and a 9 amp jolt if you try to illegally cross into the US.

New York Times:

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally.

The remarks, which came at two campaign rallies in Tennessee as part of a barnstorming bus tour across the state, drew loud cheers from crowds of several hundred people at each rally. At the second stop, in Harriman, Tenn., Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.
[...]
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical. Mr. Cain often says he told the caller that he had recently returned from China, and if the Chinese could build the Great Wall then America could build a border fence.

Before we assume that Herman Cain’s suggestion will cause Democrats or even select Republicans to throw even more scorn in his direction, I’d suggest this: Cain could win over many of them simply by saying that in his border plan, the fence would be electrified with power provided by solar panels the government purchased from stimulus-backed green energy companies.

You may regret making that post when you wake up sober in the morning.

No elected president would build a fence across that huge distance. All that money spent, and they’d just dig under it. Perry is just being honest about it.

I am so for this drill, baby, drill thing. Think of what it would do for us. Create tons of jobs. Free us from dependence on the middle east. I would love for those countries to have to peddle sand. Lower energy costs. There’s just no downside.

Amen!

What happens, like clockwork, is that when OPEC gets wind of serious US oil production, they cut OPEC’s price down, down, down. This cheapens world oil to the point that all the oil production in the US is stalled. Some kind of subsidized drilling would really be needed, so that OPEC cannot bust it out of existence and it would be ready to go when the SHTF in the middle east.

Could you please get over that. It’s been explained over and over again. The entire cost is negligible. It was passed 11 years ago by an almost unanimous bi-partisan legislature.

If that’s all you got, get out of the way.

Oh, and electrify a fence.

Overall then, you would say that Perry is the strongest and most serious candidate on the issue of dealing with illegal immigration?

He regrets nothing. Same for #26.

About 9-10 years ago I posted a reply in jest saying that we should put machine guns on the border. That post was pulled, immediately.

Perry would say drill, drill, drill. Just as both Palin and Cain have already said. And that would be great, great, great for jobs. I’m glad to see Perry join the Cain train on energy.

But unfortunately for Mr. Perry, he would have those jobs, jobs, jobs, go to illegal, illegal, illegals. I am one who would have no problem with putting troops with live ammunition on the border assisted by electrified fence to make sure that does not happen.

Perry’s welcoming arms will only bring in more illegals, terrorists, and drug cartels. Cain’s open use of arms will seriously deter them. It is great that someone finally realizes our border is not a joke. Ricky La Raza could learn something from Herman Cain.

People would rather hear flim flam than honesty.

30 foot fence, 31 foot ladders or tunnels.

It’s gonna take something more sophisticated.

Or you could go simple, electric fence (kinda hard across the Big River, but we’ll work that out later) and land mines.

Trouble is, it’s a pointy camel’s head in a tent. Once these kids (who were sneaked in as youngsters, not born in the USA) have their sheepskins, then folks are going to start crying how it’s so heartless not to let them get citizenship in the USA where these college degrees mean something (unless it’s chemical engineering, which the drug cartels can always use in Mexico).

Perry has been Governor of a state with MAJOR energy producing capacity for 12 years (remember the 4 aces) umm that was before Cain and Palin.

It’s not the first time his honesty has gotten him in trouble. He’s my choice.

Yes, I would.

He’s the one who’s dealt with it. He knows the problems involved and he’s too honest to say, ‘build a fence,’ or zap them all.

But, I’m sure you know that border control is basically the responsibility of the federal government which, at this point, doesn’t care.

Can anybody find a complete citation of what Cain said? Did he propose an electric fence everywhere?

So instead of pandering to illegals and calling conservatives racists and heartless, he has finally decided to talk about energy independence? That’s a good thing for him now. Where has he been?

Let’s see... you want the one about China’s Great Wall and electrifying it with a moat and alligators or..... what... seriously... he did say that... I cannot make that up...

It might be vain now for someone like Perry to try to funnel significant numbers of illegales to ICE, because Obama is putting ICE on, well, ice. But it wouldn’t be vain to set up to be able to do that in the future when a saner administration is in the White House.

What sayeth the Perrywinkles and the anti-Perrywinkles?
