Rick Perry: Time to consider defunding United Nations
CBS News ^ | Oct 18, 2011 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 10/18/2011 8:03:53 PM PDT by Clairity

Republican presidential candidate and Texas governor Rick Perry said Tuesday that "it's time for us to have a serious discussion about defunding the United Nations."

After saying "I think it's time for this country to have a very real debate about foreign aid," he turned to the U.N., pointing to the Palestinian statehood push in order to criticize the organization.

"When you think about the Palestinian Authority circumventing those Oslo Accords and going to New York to try to create the conflict and to have themselves approved as a state without going through the proper channels is a travesty," he said. "And I think it's time not only to have that entire debate about all of our foreign aid, but in particular the U.N. Why are we funding that organization?"

We may agree on the UN, but most Americans are so uninformed that they actually think the UN is a “peace promoter.” Santorum let the cat out in the debate about how so few Americans could even name one Republican presidential candidate.

I think Bachmann is better where she is at. I have confidence she knows what she's talking about to a degree but her cry to homeless mothers was waaaaay too precious. Good in her role tonight but, take a breath!

What I didn't like is that Romney and Cain have been able to somehow insinuate they would build the fence but it's clear they wont. They are trying to have it both ways. They have the same plan or weaker as Perry, they just don't understand how to make it work.

Defund certain programs within the UN which are acting contrary to their original purpose and US interests? Absolutely yes. Pull out completely as Perry wants? No. We still have the veto in the security council and we can still use it to reign in some excesses. Leaving completely would end that. I’d cut back on what we fund, either not appoint a UN ambassador or else reduce the rank of that position from cabinet level to no different than any other ambassador representing the US in any third-world cesspool, and generally make our lack of respect for the organization as a whole crystal clear.

Kick them out of the USA—let them go to Europe. Lets not pay their way—they are a relic of another day—one that showed great promise but failed to rise to the occasion of a civilized organization. It is a corrupt thing that will fall apart. We do not need it.

“Yeah, well, let us know when he knows for sure. Until then, we’ll ‘consider’ the corrupt, phony, pandering La Raza Rick to be full of horse manure.”

That’s what Karl Rove said!

A fence is not the complete answer. The illegals will figure out how to go over or under it. We will still need boots on the ground, drones, helicopters, and satellite/GPS surveillance.

Like he subsidized the educations for non-citizen children of illegal aliens? That Rick Perry? It's climb up out of the gutter time for Rick and he'll say anything.

WRT the UN----Perry-pimponistas say if Gov Perry wants something gone, it’s gone..........

.......that is to say, unless it sneaked across the border......then Perry wants to educate it with US tax dollars and make it a citizen.......

And if it's Islamic, he will help it build mosques and install Sharia law in the Texas legal system.

The real Texas Miracle is how Perry gets on all fours all puckered up, and sucks up with that bad back of his.

LOL! Mr. Mexico suddenly is all about our sovereignty? Mr. Secede-no-I-take-it-back? Yeah, right. The only way I could see where he’d really be against the U.N. except in a sound bite is that it would foil his dream of being President of a powerful North American Union and selling out the country to someone else. I’m just waiting to see him flesh out his opposition to the U.N. the way he “clarified” his comment on Texas secession, i.e., do a total gutless 180. What a leader that Mitt Perry is!

Lots of wiggle room in the word “Consider”.

” ..., but actions speaks louder than words.”

Totally agree. It’s always words with these people - especially obungler. Not what they say but what they do.

These debates - almost entirely sponsored and moderated by lefties - are a win/win for them as Republican candidates are handing them dozens of sound bites to be used against our eventual candidate.

I know there’s little financial cost to them, but don’t know why our candidates keep participating.

You know, you people’s act gets a little old.

Perry is the first person to bring it up, and now you’re parsing words. This is important, needs to be done.

We had an ideal candidate who has been virtually destroyed by Cain supporters, liberals and the fact that he governs much better than he talks.

We’ve now, thanks to you and your ilk, created a civil war which will probably result in Romney getting the nomination and you will have yourselves to blame.

I have expressed serious doubts about Cain, but I’ve never gotten anywhere near as vicious and nasty about him as you people have about Perry.

Can you not point to Cain’s virtues and leave it at that?

I wish he would have knocked that smug Romney’s hand off his shoulder. Guess it wouldn’t have been prudent but ...

One should always parse the words of politicians. Especially ones who have a history of campaigning one way and governing another. People who don't are frankly just plain stupid. People who blindly trust politicians shouldn't vote.

We had an ideal candidate who has been virtually destroyed by Cain supporters, liberals and the fact that he governs much better than he talks.

No, you didn't. You had the ideal candidate IN YOUR HEAD. He only existed on paper. You guys bent over backwards to defend this guy's shocking record for months, to CREATE a FAKE 'perfect candidate'.

We’ve now, thanks to you and your ilk, created a civil war which will probably result in Romney getting the nomination and you will have yourselves to blame.

You guys have been supporting this horrific candidate, defying all logic, for months now. If anyone is causing a 'civil war', it's you people. You guys are completely delusional.

I have expressed serious doubts about Cain, but I’ve never gotten anywhere near as vicious and nasty about him as you people have about Perry.

To me, Perry represents the absolute worst that could possibly be presented to the American people as 'conservatism'. His kind of cronyism is a CANCER that is destroying this country. Mitt is the same way, but less in-your-face about it. This corruption must be stopped.

You people who want to replace Obama with his Solyndra and Resko land deals with a guy who did the same damn things in Texas are absolutely laughable.

Can you not point to Cain’s virtues and leave it at that?

Yes, I can. However, when Perry is full of crap (as he is here to anyone but his faithful) I'm going to call him on it.

I took over the Perry-dactls name so Liz made up a new one.

Perry doubling down on illegals going to college is not helping me warm up to him. And him raising the issue of some private contractors hiring illegals in MA as if this is policy related issue did not impress me either. He was correct about Romney being for amnesty though , but so is he obviously.
